In April 2015 we secured an interview with BIOHAZARD REVELATIONS 2 director Yasuhiro Anpo regarding the game's story. Special thanks to CAPCOM USA Senior PR Manager Jason Andersen for organizing the interview. One question couldn't be answered.
Interview Transcript
Q1) How was Claire found after jumping into the ocean from the tower?
A ship that happened to be passing by spotted her drifting astray and rescued her.
Q2) When and how did Barry obtain Moira's distress call?
There's a BSAA base near the island where the signal was received, which was then analyzed at BSAA HQ. That being said, the BSAA wasn't forthcoming with this information - Barry, who was already tracking down his daughter on his own, had to use forceful means in order to obtain information on the island, and went in alone to find her.
Q3) Is Claire still infected with t-Phobos after the ending? There was no vaccine in the game, t-Phobos has a very low antibody rate, and Claire never "overcomes" fear since her bracelet never goes above orange.
At the end of REV2 when they escape, Claire is still infected. What happens after that is anyone's guess.
Q4) Alex coughs during a scene in the game. Was this a hint that she was dying? If so, why was she dying?
Alex was indeed sick, and did not have much longer to survive in that body. (You'll find hints about this in the game's files.) And that is specifically why she so recklessly tries to perform the transfer, as dangerous as it could be. All of it was in order to fulfill her plan.
Q5) Alex was injected with the same virus as Albert and the other Wesker Children. However, she isn't superhuman and didn't die like the other Weskers. Why is that?
It's possible the illness had weakened her body, and that her body would've been much more powerful (from the virus) if it weren't for the illness.
Q6) Neil Fisher's mutation is very different from Uroboros infectees in BIO5. Was his mutation influenced by t-Phobos, like Alex in the final battle? (If so, why is his bracelet always green?)
Actually, I think Neil's mutation is quite close to Wesker's in RE5. That being said, mutations caused by the virus are heavily influenced by differences between individual subjects - so just because a subject gets injected with the same virus, it doesn't mean that they'll necessarily mutate the same way.
Q7) In the bad ending, Natalia displays incredible strength and glowing red eyes. Is she a t-Phobos adapter able to become superhuman, like how Albert Wesker became superhuman after adapting to the variant virus in BIO1? If so, can Moira also become superhuman since she overcame fear like Natalia?
The power that transfers to Natalia is the same power that resides within Alex Wesker. It's possible that in addition to the memory transfer, Alex has also performed other various physical enhancements on Natalia, her would be vessel.
Q8) When was the painting with Albert and Alex drawn and how did they know each other? Alex seems to have romantic feelings for him, as well as viewing him as a brother and an equal, an oddly close relationship that parallels Gregor/Grete in Kafka's The Metamorphosis.
Albert and Alex are two of the Wesker Children, who studied under Spencer, and it's possible that this was painted at that time. They were the two "chosen" ones, and existed as rivals meant to give each other even higher standards. As such, Alex does think of Albert as a brother, and it seems that she very specifically related Gregor and Greta to Albert and herself.
Q9) Spencer asked Alex to develop a virus for immortality, but it seems she failed since this isn't mentioned in the game. Why was the immortality virus dropped in favor of transferring the mind to a new body, from both an "in-universe" perspective and from a scenario writing perspective?
Alex decides to take the mind transfer route because she realizes that she doesn't have long to live due to her illness.
A ship that happened to be passing by spotted her drifting astray and rescued her.
