Prologue
Raccoon City's a small town in the American midwest, surrounded by a vast forested area.
It's been two months since bizarre murder cases occurred in this quiet town, which is usually unpopular with tourists and propped up by a single major company's pharmaceutical business...
Now, the city's about to be transformed into the stage for a new tragedy.

CHARACTER INTRO (p.004-005)
Leon S. Kennedy
A rookie policeman who became interested in the bizarre murder cases occurring in and around Raccoon City and so volunteered to be assigned to the Raccoon Police Department. He's only 21-years-old with little practical experience, but has an impressive energy and sense of duty. On the other hand, he also displayed his juvenile side when he broke up with his girlfriend upon leaving his hometown, getting drunk and arriving late on his first day. It's because of this he became deeply embroiled in this incident, however.
▲ He's fully capable of using high-caliber handguns. He's the real deal.
Claire Redfield
A lively and curious college student who loves motorcycles. She came to Raccoon City out of worry for the safety of her brother Chris, a S.T.A.R.S. member she lost contact with about two months ago. She has a self-assured personality and isn't reliant on others, which often annoys Leon when they meet.
◄ Accurate shooting and lock-picking skills. She's definitely Chris' sister.
Ada Wong
A woman of Asian descent who walks around the police station with an unwavering expression, even though it's filled with roaming Zombies. She's the girlfriend of John, an Umbrella researcher, and claims she came to Raccoon City in search of him after he disappeared. However, her true identity's that of an agent for an organization seeking the G-Virus. She always looks composed, but is tormented by her growing attraction to Leon.
Sherry Birkin
A girl who's protected by Claire as she runs away from Zombies in the police station. She's the only daughter of Umbrella researchers Mr. and Mrs. Birkin. She's shy and lonely, perhaps due to not receiving enough love and affection from a couple who worked day and night on their research. She initially appears to be wary of Claire, but gradually opens up to her.
Ben Bertolucci
A freelance newspaper reporter known for being quite sharp. He was staying in the city after Raccoon's bizarre murder cases, but was imprisoned for investigating the Chief's personal affairs.
Brian Irons
The chief officer of the Raccoon Police Department. However, he's a man of lust with dangerous tastes. He's been colluding with the Umbrella Corporation and covering up the incident at the mansion.
Annette Birkin
Sherry's mother. She's an Umbrella Corp. researcher and involved in developing the G-Virus with her husband, William. After her husband becomes a monster, she attempts to protect the virus.
William Birkin
The scientist who developed the G-Virus. When his ambition was exposed and he was raided by Umbrella Corp.'s special ops, he injected himself with the virus and became a monster.
Marvin Branagh
Leon's superior officer in the Raccoon Police Department. He's fatally wounded but survives alone. He informs Leon and Claire about the incident and entrusts them with a card key.
Robert Kendo
A Japanese-American proprietor who runs Kendo Gun Shop. After the city's destruction, he hid behind the counter in his store, but was caught off guard after meeting Leon etc., losing his life in the process.

BIO ORGANIC WEAPON B.O.W.
Zombie (p.018)
Raccoon citizens who have become the living dead after being infected with the T-Virus that has leaked into the city. They've completely lost all sense of humanity, driven solely by a hunger induced by the T-Virus.
Zombie Dog (p.020)
Raccoon Police Department police dogs infected with the T-Virus. Compared to human Zombies, their bodies are smaller and require less energy, so their muscles are less deteriorated and they're highly agile.
Crow (p.021)
Crows that came from the forest surrounding Raccoon City. They were infected with the T-Virus after feasting on the large amount of corpses lying in the city. They don't look any different, but have become ferocious.
Giant Spider (p.022)
A spider that has grown dramatically in size due to the effects of chemicals that have been poured into the sewage. Despite its huge size, the spider's original characteristics remain intact, able to freely crawl along walls and ceilings to ensnare prey directly.
Licker & Enhanced Licker (p.023)
The T-Virus invades the body of a person who has turned into a Zombie, causing a mutation that results in the birth of this monster. It has lost its eyesight due to changes in its organs, but has gained large claws and an abnormally developed sense of hearing.
Alligator (p.024)
An alligator that had been dumped and was living in the sewers, now grown to a huge size as a result of the T-Virus' effects. The Alligator seems to decide whether food in front of it is edible or not by putting it in its mouth.
Ivy & Poison Ivy (p.025)
A plant-based biological weapon. It was developed based on data from Plant 42 which was being studied in the mansion. The issue of hydration has been resolved by ingesting water vapor from the body's surface, allowing it to move around independently.
Giant Moth (p.026)
A poisonous moth bred for experiment purposes, massively enlarged by chemicals. As a mutant, its wings and body are unbalanced, but it can still fly, and the toxicity of its phosphorus powder has been significantly elevated.
Tyrant (p.027)
The ultimate version of a T-Virus series bioweapon created by Umbrella. It's a further advancement and modification of the T-002 model that went out of control during the incident at the mansion, and efforts to make it faithfully obey commands have been successful.
Super Tyrant (p.028)
A form which has exceeded the limits of its life-support functions and responded by transforming the body. This manifestation of the T-002's characteristics is inherently irregular, but it still appears to be obeying orders.
G Adult Organism (p.029)
An incomplete pseudo-replicate that has been rejected due to mismatched genetic information between the base individual and the host.
G First Form (p.030)
The effects of G-Cell invasion have covered the upper right side of its body. Despite being in the early stages of transformation, it has durability far exceeding that of a Zombie, with enough monstrous strength to tear off an iron railing.
G Second Form (p.031)
Most of the upper body has been invaded by G-Cells and a new head has formed. In addition, its physique and body surface tissues have changed along with a rapid increase in size, along with its right hand developing giant claws.
G Third Form (p.032)
G-Cell invasion has reached the lower half of the body and a new pair of arms has appeared on the upper half. As a result, its giant arms have moved to the back, resembling wings.
G Fourth Form (p.033)
The morphological alterations triggered by the proliferating G-Cells is an immediate response to a life-or-death crisis. In this beast-like form, it possesses a high degree of mobility.
G Fifth Form (p.034)
G's final form. Perhaps because it required energy to recover in its fourth form, it appears to have ingested a great deal of food, swelling its body by several times in both weight and mass.
Zombie (p.018)

R.P.D. Raccoon Police Department (p.260-261)
Bizarre murder cases had been occurring frequently since May. Why had the police, who should be trying to uncover the truth, taken such backward steps?
A DISASTER CAUSED BY COLLUSION WITH THE LOCAL COMPANY, UMBRELLA
Originally, Raccoon City was a rural area in the midwest of the United States, but it wasn't until the city attracted the Umbrella Corporation's factory that it achieved rapid development. Today, about 30 percent of the population is employed by affiliated companies, and considering the number of families and people involved, one could say the city's only made possible because of Umbrella. Normally, the police are supposed to remove problems to public safety and order, but it's questionable whether the police have been able to fulfill their proper functions, such as covering up incidents, restricting investigations, and silencing the mass media, since they have received a great deal of support and donations from Umbrella, as well as personal bribes.

WHAT'S THE TRUE FACE BEHIND THE MILD-MANNERED, TRUSTWORTHY CHIEF UNITING THE CITY'S POLICE STATION?
The reason behind the biohazard spreading so far is the result of the collusion between the Chief of Police, Brian Irons, and Umbrella Corp. For the past five years, he has been accepting substantial bribes from Umbrella Corp. to purchase expensive paintings, set up secret rooms inside the station, etc., as means to further his own personal interests. In return, he delayed the deployment of S.T.A.R.S. against the bizarre murder cases, and ignored the reports of Chris and the other surviving officers. When he was in college, he was suspected of abusing a female students on two occasions and subjected to a psychological evaluation, but it was dismissed due to his excellent grades.
Hunting's his hobby and his room's decorated with many stuffed animals he's killed.
THE LONGEST DAY IN THE LIFE OF LEON, A ROOKIE COP IN RACCOON CITY WHO VOLUNTEERED TO BE ASSIGNED TO THE R.P.D.
With his strong sense of justice, Leon was interested in the bizarre murder cases frequently occurring in a city that seems to have nothing to do with violent crimes, and he asked to be assigned to the R.P.D. himself. He arrived on September 29th and was provided with a uniform. However, he was very late on his first day, even though he drove all the way there. Arriving in Raccoon City after dark, Leon was greeted by a horde of Zombies.
He arrived in his beloved jeep, but encountered Zombies early on.
At the station, preparations were being made to welcome the rookie.

S.T.A.R.S. (p.262-263)
A summary of the origins of the special ops unit deployed to solve bizarre murder cases, but wound up incurring many casualties.
FORMED BY PRIVATE COMPANIES TO PROTECT CITIZENS FROM SPECIAL CRIMES
S.T.A.R.S. was formed under the jurisdiction of the R.P.D. with an office inside the station in order to respond to the recent increase in urban terrorism and diversifying special crimes. S.T.A.R.S. stands for "Special Tactics and Rescue Service" and consists of two teams, Alpha and Bravo. The group consisted of 12 experts in various fields, regardless of gender, background, or age. The organization's formation was funded by local private companies as part of an urban planning project, with the giant Umbrella Corp. playing a central role. It was founded in 1996, almost as if they'd anticipated the events that would happen there.
SPECIAL OPS MEMBERS AT UMBRELLA'S MERCY
In May, a virus outbreak created a biohazard for the staff and surrounding organisms. With the help of S.T.A.R.S. commander and Umbrella special agent Wesker, a plan was hatched to take advantage of the biohazard caused by the accident in order to blow up the lab, collect live B.O.W. combat data, and conceal any evidence from the public. That was X-DAY, July 24th. Ahead of the rest, the Bravo Team were accidentally caught up in Dr. James Marcus's return to Umbrella, and one of the team members was killed in action. The team's surviving officers then headed for the mansion, but along with the Alpha Team sent later, they lost their lives one by one, just as Wesker had planned. Now that half of the team has been killed in the line of duty, their operations are presently suspended.

Umbrella (p.264-265)
What is Umbrella, the pharma-company that's the source and origin of all this? An insight into the truth hidden within the giant organization
THE DISCOVERY OF THE "PROGENITOR" VIRUS HAS GIVEN RISE TO AMBITIONS OF TAKING OVER THE WORLD
Umbrella Corp. is a huge multinational corporation well-known internationally for its corporate name and symbol which hearken to an "umbrella," expressing the desire to protect people's health. Headquartered in Europe, Umbrella has branches all over the world, including one in Raccoon City. By building a factory in what was once just a rural town in the United States and providing a large amount of aid, the company has advanced the city's rapid growth. As the number of workers increased year by year, the company's now so closely tied to the local community that about 30% of the population's involved in related facilities.
In reality though, they're a merchant of death using viruses to develop and sell bioweapons. In the late 1960s, Oswell E. Spencer, James Marcus and others together discovered the "Progenitor" virus which is capable of recombining the genes of living organisms. The following year in 1968, Umbrella was founded as a public disguise to further their research and develop bioweapons (B.O.W.). Since its inception, Umbrella has constructed a number of facilities for developing B.O.W.'s, in addition to the Arklay underground lab. Practical applications for the virus have been studied through the researchers' extraordinary enthusiasm and experiment activities on the human body.
A NIGHTMARE THAT STRUCK THE ARCHITECT FAMILY, THE "PROGENITOR" OF HUMAN EXPERIMENTS
In 1962, the wealthy Lord Spencer paid George Trevor, a famous architect living in New York, a large sum of money to construct a mansion. The building was completed five years later in November 1967. The Trevor family was invited to the mansion to commemorate its completion, but his wife Jessica and daughter Lisa arrived three days before George, who had to go later due to work. They were each given a mutant strain of the Progenitor virus. Jessica, who was administered TYPE-A, failed and was disposed of, while Lisa, who was given TYPE-B, was successfully colonized by the virus.

FROM UMBRELLA'S FOUNDING TO NOW
April 1968
Umbrella's established. Research continues at various facilities toward practical application of the Progenitor virus.
Late August, 1968
The executive training school's founded. Dr. James Marcus is appointed director and a Progenitor lab's set up.
Summer 1978
With the loss of Dr. Marcus' position, the training school was shut down. Candidate employees were transferred to the Arklay Lab.
May 11th 1998
A large-scale virus outbreak occurs at the Arklay Lab. A plan's implemented to abandon the lab.
July 23-24th 1998
The site of the former executive training school and the Arklay Lab are destroyed in explosions. The development base is moved to beneath Raccoon City.
Mid-September, 1998
Dr. William Birkin's able to complete the "G" virus. A dispute arises within the company over how to treat it.

B.O.W. DEVELOPMENT IN THE EXECUTIVE TRAINING SCHOOL
Marcus, a member of the team that discovered Progenitor, continued to take charge of the research, but conflict arose between him and Spencer, who was focused on the business. After a number of B.O.W.'s, he managed to develop "T"...
B.O.W. DEVELOPMENT IN THE ARKLAY LAB, FLOURISHING AFTER THE TRAINING SCHOOL'S CLOSURE
In 1977, 17-year-old Wesker and 15-year-old Birkin were assigned to the training school as candidates for executive positions. They reported directly to the director and were highly regarded, but in the summer of the following year, they murdered the director on Spencer's orders. They were transferred to the Arklay Lab along with the fruit of his research, "T". One of Umbrella's most brilliant minds who rose to the position of chief, it was Birkin who put B.O.W.'s to practical use.
X-DAY = ABANDONING ARKLAY LAB DUE TO MANSION INCIDENT
MOVED TO THE UNDERGROUND LAB IN RACCOON CITY
After the "T" virus project had reached a certain conclusion, the "G" virus project designed by Birkin went underway. As the project neared completion in 1998 however, Umbrella became fed up with Birkin's autonomy and began taking action to rectify the situation.

FROM "PROGENITOR" TO "T" TO THE "G" VIRUS (p.266-267)
"Mutant virus strains" were studied to manufacture B.O.W.'s from Progenitor. After many years, the ultimate "G" was created after repeated bio-experiments
AFTER REPEATED BIO-EXPERIMENTS, B.O.W.'S WERE FINALLY PUT TO PRACTICAL USE
The "T-Virus Project" implemented at Umbrella to develop a Bio Organic Weapon (aka., B.O.W.), aimed towards developing a humanoid combat B.O.W. with superior intelligence. "T" is an acronym for Tyrant, and it's clear the codename's in line with this goal. After a series of human experiments, infected people lost their sense of reason and became "Zombies" who ate people solely out of hunger. However, research continued in order to create B.O.W.'s with higher intelligence and the ability to carry out orders.
THE NEW "G-PROJECT" BEGINS, A TRAGEDY CAUSED BY BIRKIN'S ARBITRARY DECISION-MAKING
In the Arklay underground lab, the Tyrant, Code No. T-002, was completed using all accumulated expertise. At the same time, in the Raccoon City underground lab, William Birkin was deviating from the T-Virus Project and advancing the G-Project, based on an uncharted concept. By administering the virus, the body's capabilities would be elevated to an extreme, transforming humans into a completely different and astounding life-form. However, Umbrella was fed up with Birkin's unilateral methods and sent in its special forces. Birkin was doomed as a result, along with Raccoon City.
THINGS INFECTED BY "T"
The T-Virus transforms a variety of living things into bizarre forms. Artificially or through mutation.
IVY
A subspecies of Plant 42 created at the Arklay Lab. It has excellent environmental adaptability, and poisonous individuals have also appeared.
LICKER
A human who became a Zombie and mutated further. They also attack with their long tongue.
LARGE ROACH
Cockroaches that had been living in the sewage system rapidly grew due to secondary infection. They became huge and violent, feeding mainly on rats.
"T"
As a result of further developing the T-002 Type Tyrant, they succeeded in improving its recovery ability and making it act according to commands. Also, during the course of the research, if the life-support function reached a critical point, it would result in the emergence of an irregular individual who underwent dramatic physical changes.
"G"
The infected adult organisms themselves don't require any external factors and continue to spontaneously mutate until they die. A "G Adult Organism" is unbound by rules, so no one can predict how it'll end up. It mutates in such a way it nullifies any countermeasures. It's the ultimate virus.
