About the Comic
biohazard 0 was published by the Yulang Group in 2003 as a loosely-based manhua adaptation of CAPCOM’s survival horror classic of the same name. The biohazard 0 comics were released exclusively in China with a total of six issues throughout its run, where it would be amongst a number of installments on the Biohazard games that did not receive publication outside of China, including BIOHAZARD 2, BIOHAZARD 3 LAST ESCAPE and its supplemental edition. These comics have never before been translated from Chinese to English until now.
About the Translation

The following translation was performed by one of our affiliates, the multi-talented Lunar Indie Studios, and the rest of this disclosure is from Lunar himself…
To all inquiring readers, I (Lunar) have no experience in translating Chinese and used translation devices to perform the work. I do not claim complete accuracy, and am willing to make compromises and edits if corrected so by translators or natives with more experience than myself. Although I do feel like the translation is accurate enough to understand the structure of the text and the meaning remains the same, certain creative liberties were taken to make this a more enjoyable read.
This translation of the biohazard 0 manhua is of Westernized English, which is the changing of the direct translation from Chinese to English, but customized to make the comic more grammatically correct for English speaking fans. None of the context is changed of course, the lore and overall plot remains the same, however, I simply made the sentences easier to read.
Example sentences.
Westernized translation: A selection of biochemical weapons were released in this secret room ready to kill; the mystery man with the scars on his arm is conducting an experiment… with one monster, codenamed: TYRANT, as their target!
Chinese/English translation: A group of non-human monsters gathered in the secret room, baring their teeth and claws; it seems that the mysterious man with the claw marks on his arm is conducting an experiment… I saw a monster called a work test amongst them; it was besieged by other strange beasts!
As for certain creative liberties, I adjusted the names of certain characters that were established in the original games (i.e. Rebecca Chambers, Billy Coen, Enrico Marini, etc.) so that their first and last names were included (to make them seem less one-dimensional compared to just being called Officer Rebecca, Billy, and the Captain) and adjust/add the names of certain characters/organizations/families for the sake of accuracy. On a personal note, I felt that the writers of the manhua either didn’t do enough research on the original game and its lore, or simply disregarded it for their own creative reasoning.
One of the more glaring examples was how two of the Bravo Team officers, Joe and John, were clearly based on biohazard’s Richard Aiken and Kenneth J. Sullivan, but were named instead as simply “Joe” and “John”. I took the initiative to restore them to what were their proper names.
Another example would be the Stinger creature, a prominent early boss from the biohazard 0 game, was identified as the “giant biochemical scorpion”. While I used that label, for simplicity sake, I added its original name “Stinger” when the manhua’s narrator would talk about it.
The term “the Umbrella Family” was used frequently in the direct Chinese>English translation to describe the Umbrella Corporation. Without spoiling any major details for new readers, the aspect on the corporation that developed biochemical weapons was identified as “Umbrella”, while the family aspect itself was re-identified as the “Trevor Family”, for reasons that are explained in later issues of the manhua.
