BIOHAZARD THE DARKSIDE CHRONICLES is the sequel to BIOHAZARD THE UMBRELLA CHRONICLES which fills in the gaps previously left by The Umbrella Chronicles, consisting of a re-telling of the events of BIOHAZARD 2 and BIOHAZARD -CODE:Veronica-. A new scenario dubbed "Operation: Javier" is also present, similar to the "Umbrella's End" scenario in The Umbrella Chronicles. All three scenarios are told from the perspective of Leon S. Kennedy, whilst two bonus chapters are told from the perspective of Jack Krauser. The playable characters include Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Steve Burnside, Chris Redfield and Jack Krauser.
The gameplay consists of the same on-rails shooting mechanic of The Umbrella Chronicles, with a much more improved engine. A "shaky-cam" effect reminiscent of movies like the Blair Witch Project and REC was also implemented.

Plot Synopsis
IN THE BEGINNING
The Darkside resides within all of us, lingering
below the surface, waiting, preying on our sanity.
It is fueled by sights you wished you could un-
see, actions you wish you could un-do and
memories you wish you could forget.
Our greatest mistake as humans, is thinking only
evil men do evil deeds, because the potential to
become what we're fighting is within all of us.
The telltale signs of fatigue can appear in the
foundation of men stronger than you and the
only way forward goes through the shadows and
into a past more terrifying than ever. Because
this time around, you know what's coming.

Whilst Memory of a Lost City and Game of Oblivion are merely re-tellings of older games, Operation Javier details a brand-new plot to the series. Taking place in the Summer of 2002, Leon S. Kennedy, now an agent for a secret military agency, is partnered up with U.S. SOCOM operative Jack Krauser to investigate reports of a former Umbrella USA researcher coming into contact with Javier Hidalgo, a powerful ex-drug lord with de facto control over the small South American country of Amparo.

Scenarios
Memory of a Lost City
"I'll tell you...what I've been through...
memories I wish I could forget.
My fight against man made pandemic began in
an infested town. It was September 1998, my first
and only day as a police officer. I woke up late,
and if I hadn't, I wouldn't be here today..."
- Leon S. Kennedy -
Leon Kennedy, a young rookie cop late for his first day at the Raccoon
City Police Department arrives at a city in chaos: hordes of infected
zombies are roaming the streets. Here, he saves the life of Claire Redfield,
a young university student searching for her brother, and together they
fight their way to the police station in the hopes of finding some sort of
safety and answers. But they find neither, just unanswered questions,
more zombies, supposed allies with sinister motives and no way out. They
realize the only way to escape is to face the darkness they are running from
and stop the spread of the infection, at its source: the local labs of the
global biotech giant, the Umbrella Corporation.

The first scenario, Memory of a Lost City, is a re-telling of the events of Resident Evil 2 from the perspective of Leon S. Kennedy, as he details the events to Jack Krauser. The scenario opens with Leon and Claire Redfield fighting their way through the streets and alleys of Raccoon City in order to reach the Raccoon City Police Department. After reaching the police department, their fight continues and whilst inside they encounter two survivors; Ada Wong and Sherry Birkin. While trying to find an escape, the two are persistently stalked by a Tyrant (T-103). They eventually reach the sewers, where they meet Annette Birkin and learn of the events which caused the disaster. After re-locating Sherry, now infected with a G-Embryo, they make their way to the underground laboratory in search of a vaccine.
"After reuniting with Sherry we managed to escape from the underground sewer. Only to be faced with a new problem, Sherry became sick. She told us that while she had been wandering the depths of the sewers, she had been implanted with a G-Embryo, but it wasn't too late. We began our journey into the bowels of the Umbrella facility, to retrieve the vaccine." - Leon S. Kennedy
During a battle with the T-103, Ada is supposedly killed, but later returns to throw Leon and Claire a rocket launcher during a climactic battle with the Super Tyrant. After defeating the mutated William Birkin for the fifth and final time, Leon, Claire and Sherry escape. Leon tells Sherry of her mother's death and last words. Afterwards, Claire left the two alone and headed for Europe, whilst Leon and Sherry were rescued by U.S. Government agents. In an ensuing interrogation, Leon was pressured into peacefully accepting the offer of becoming a U.S. agent in exchange for Sherry's safety.

Game of Oblivion
"Given the horror I witnessed in Raccoon City, I
knew I needed to find my brother, my only
family, before it was too late. My search brought
me to confront The Ashfords on their private
research facility in the South Seas. They were the
exact opposite of me, Aristocrats: entitled,
greedy, selfish and yet, I learned that their
motivation wasn't too far from mine: The loss of
daughter and the disappearance of a father had
brought the family to the brink of insanity...and
beyond."
- Claire Redfield -
After Clair Redfield failed to locate her brother, Chris Redfield, in
Raccoon City she continued her quest in Europe. But her single-minded
goal of saving her brother leads to her own disappearance and subsequent
incarceration at a secret Umbrella detention facility on an isolated island
in the Southern Seas. Claire manages to escape captivity during a
mysterious bombing raid and finds a friend in a fellow inmate, Steve
Burnside. But the bombing hasn't just helped Steve and Claire escape, it
has also initiated a full on viral outbreak and the island is now overrun
with zombies. Together Steve and Claire set out to save themselves and
take down the Umbrella Corporation allies in control of the island: the evil
but brilliant Ashford family.

They were aristocrats, entitled and sustained by a greed for power. Having been involved in the foundation of Umbrella, the Ashford Family had also independantly performed research on the Veronica virus. However, fifteen years ago, Alexander Ashford disappeared under mysterious circumstances. To make things worse, Alexander's daughter Alexia, a child prodigy who played a key role in the research, died at a young age. Her untimely demise brought an end to the Veronica Project, and the Umbrella files show that all research was apparently lost. The Ashford lineage gradually lost its power to the corrupt hands of the Umbrella Corporation. Alexia's brother Alfred, was demoted to a mere supervisor and he was sent to command a private detention facility on an isolated island in the Southern Seas - alone." - Leon S. Kennedy
Claire Redfield was captured by Umbrella after infiltrating the Paris Research Facility. On December 27th, she was taken to Rockfort Island as a prisoner and held in the island's prison complex. As fate would have it, Albert Wesker attacked the island on that very evening. After being released, she meets an escaped prisoner, apparently the only survivor of the attack; Steve Burnside. The two join forces and fight their way through the prison, as Claire gets information on her whereabouts and her brother and sends an e-mail to Leon S. Kennedy. The two survivors encounter Alfred Ashford, by now a man driven mad by loneliness. After being led through his trecherous "games", they finally battled Alfred in the attic of his private quarters from which he escaped. After the self-destruct sequence for the island is activated, the two are attacked by a Tyrant (T-103 Mass Produced Type). After supposedly defeating it and making their way to the heliport, the Tyrant returns after grabbing hold of their plane. Another battle ensues, in which the Tyrant is launched out of the plane by a missile. Their plane however is put into auto-pilot, and they head for an unknown destination.
"The sea plane carrying Steve and Claire began to descend and made an emergency landing at an unknown facility. A forgotten site, that was just yet another playground." - Leon S. Kennedy
Claire and Steve found themselves in the Umbrella Antarctic Base. After fighting their way through and encountering new and deadly creatures, they discovered the mutated Alexander Ashford. After a final battle with Alfred, the two managed to knock him into a deep chasm. After attempting to get to a snow mobile on the outside of the facility, they were attacked by the mutated Alexander, now free from his shackles and bonds. After a long and difficult battle, the two succeed in deafeating him by impaling him on a crane. However, Alfred releases his hibernating sister Alexia from her slumber, and the tentacles she controls quickly put Claire and Steve out of action, capturing them.
"Once Chris disappeared after the Mansion Incident, he was near impossible to track down. But using my newfound position in the government, I eventually discovered his location. I would've contacted his sister, but she was a ghost herself. So I turned my search over to Claire then, and eventually learned of her confinement on Rockfort Island. I shared this information with Chris and he asked me to arrange a rescue mission, before he set off on his own to find her." - Leon S. Kennedy
Claire is awoken in the Arklay Research Facility main hall replica by Chris Redfield, her formely lost brother. After a short reunion, they are interrupted by Alexia Ashford, now fully awake. She mentions Steve being in the colloseum, and the two quickly set off to find him. When they do, Steve reveals that he has been injected with the Veronica virus, and mutates into a large monster shortly after. Claire and Chris regrettably engage him in a battle, during which he is impaled by his own axe. Alexia's tentacles attack the duo, ensnaring Claire and holding her for Steve to deliver a finishing blow. Instead, Steve cuts the tentacles, and is quickly impaled by one in response. Now gravely injured, Steve reverts to his human form once more, before muttering to Claire the words; "I love you." Chris and Claire set off once again to face off Alexia Ashford. After fighting through three of her mutations, they finally destroy her with the Linear Launcher. After returning for Steve's body, they find it missing. An engraving on the wall where his body once lay boldly stated; "I won this game". A black S.T.A.R.S. knife impaled the wall at the end, with Chris knowing exactly who it belonged to. After preparing to leave in their Harrier, Claire and Chris spot Wesker staring at them as they take off. After escaping, the self-destruct sequence reaches its end, and another Umbrella facility is reduced to rubble.
"The Veronica virus, despite Chris' best efforts was procured by Wesker. He secured Steve's body, which had been infected and was able to extract the virus, leading to its reappearance in South America. The virus continues to grow... Altering its form, strengthening perpetually until the day comes when it can be destroyed." - Leon S. Kennedy

chase this snake out of paradise, once and for
all."

Somewhere in South America...
Leon S. Kennedy: "Javier Hidalgo... A man equally famous for his extravagant lifestyle. Following his sudden disappearance, we found out that he had attempted to approach Umbrella. Just what are you up to now, Javier?"
Jack Krauser: "So, you think B.O.W.s actually exist? Oh wait, you said you faced them before, huh?"
Leon S. Kennedy: "This is my first mission with Krauser. He's a soldier with the U.S. Special Operations Command. And has quite the resume of accomplishments in the field. But to him, after all he's been through, B.O.W.s, Cryptid... They're all the same."
Jack Krauser: "Our guide is in a village up ahead. He'll take us to Amparo where Javier is hiding out. Come on, let's move."

Jack Krauser: "Pretty quiet around here..."
Leon S. Kennedy: "Where is everyone?"
Radio Broadcast: "Y ahora las noticias. [And now the news.] The number of missing teenage girls has now risen to over 50. Marking an increase in disappearances this year. The local authorities are warning parents to be cautious."
Leon S. Kennedy: "It's more than just girls that have gone missing... There's no one left."
Jack Krauser: "Something's wrong. It smells like...like a battlefield."
Leon S. Kennedy: "A battlefield?"
Jack Krauser: "Yeah. Like death. Huh? He looks hurt. Hey! You okay? What happened here?"
Leon S. Kennedy: "Krauser, wait!"
Jack Krauser: "Yeah? What?"
Leon S. Kennedy: "Something's not right with this guy. Look out!"
Jack Krauser: "Didn't see that comin'. So this is what Umbrella's virus can do, huh?"
Leon S. Kennedy: "Yeah. But there was something different about this one."
Jack Krauser: "We'd better find that guide before it's too late!"
Leon S. Kennedy: "Alright."
Jack Krauser: "Their heads! Blow their heads off! Not bad, comrade. If that's the toughest these bio-organic weapon things get, then we got nothin' to worry about."
Leon S. Kennedy: "Krauser!"
Jack Krauser: "I owe you one."
Leon S. Kennedy: "I'm sure you'll get the chance to pay me back soon enough. This is bad."
Jack Krauser: "Let's keep moving."
Leon S. Kennedy: "This way!"
Jack Krauser: "This is one hell of a mess we're in. These guys sure are hungry! These things are hiding everywhere, huh? So that was a B.O.W. too, huh? Look, a snake tattoo. This is the mark of Javier's men, the Sacred Snakes."
Leon S. Kennedy: "What is Javier doing with this virus?"
Jack Krauser: "The water keeps rising. This looks like Javier's doing."
Leon S. Kennedy: "Son of a bitch must've opened the water gate. You think he knew we were coming?"
Jack Krauser: "Who knows. But I've got my doubts about our guide still being alive."
Leon S. Kennedy: "Yeah, we'll be dead too if we're not careful. Hey! What was that?"
Jack Krauser: "Let's find out. Anyone here!?"
Leon S. Kennedy: "Let's just keep moving."
Jack Krauser: "Alright. The river took the bridge out."
Leon S. Kennedy: "This way. Be careful. There's something in the water."
Jack Krauser: "Piranhas!?"
Leon S. Kennedy: "Sure are hungry little bastards, aren't they?"
Jack Krauser: "Get inside! You hear that? Let's go. That's our guide. What happened?"
Guide: "That girl..."
Jack Krauser: "A girl...? What girl?"
Guide: "She brought devils to this village. She escaped from Javier's mansion. I helped her. But then she..."
Jack Krauser: "Javier's mansion? Wait, where is she now? Hey! Shit! He's gone. He said she escaped from Javier's mansion."
Leon S. Kennedy: "Yeah. You think it was one of those missing girls?"
Jack Krauser: "The Sacred Snakes traffic organs on the black market. Could have something to do with one of them, yeah. According to our report, there was no conclusive evidence linking the two, but...I think we'll need to track down that girl to find out for sure."
Leon S. Kennedy: "Well now that our guide is dead...she could be our only chance to find Javier's mansion. There should be a boat over by the church... Let's check it out. What was that!?"
Jack Krauser: "Where's the body!?"
Leon S. Kennedy: "Something in the water... It took him."
Jack Krauser: "The church is probably over there."
Leon S. Kennedy: "Which way should we go? I think this way's better. Damn, it's deep!"
Jack Krauser: "Let's break the door down. There's nothing in here. Here they come again!"
Leon S. Kennedy: "Let's go over the roof."
Jack Krauser: "OK."
Leon S. Kennedy: "There's the church."
Jack Krauser: "What the hell was that!? Where did it go?"
Leon S. Kennedy: "I think it's gone. Wait. You hear that?"
Jack Krauser: "Leon!"

Jack Krauser: "This thing is huge! How the hell are we supposed to kill it!?"
Leon S. Kennedy: "We'd have a better chance fighting this out in the open!"

Leon S. Kennedy: "C'mon!"
Jack Krauser: "Over there! Shoot that!"
Leon S. Kennedy: "We did it!
Jack Krauser: "Leon, what the hell is goin' on here? Have you fought these things before? Look... Fill me in. I need to know what you've been through. Everything."
Leon S. Kennedy: "Alright...let me go back to the beginning. My fight against bio-warfare all started in a zombie infested ghost town. It was September, 1998, my first and only day as a police officer."

Leon S. Kennedy: "Shit! Where do I shoot!?"
Jack Krauser: "This thing is huge! How the hell are we supposed to kill it!?"
Leon S. Kennedy: "We'd have a better chance fighting this out in the open!"
Jack Krauser: "Shoot its tentacles! Where'd it go!?"
