INTRODUCTION
Late September 1998
Raccoon City, a rural city in the Midwest of the United States. A large amount of virus has leaked out from the research facility of Umbrella, a huge corporation located within the city. This virus has a terrifying effect on infected people, quickly turning them into corpses that roam the streets in search of human flesh.
In less than a few days, Raccoon City had turned into a city of death, the streets filled with the groans of those once human. In order to prevent the virus from invading any further, the U.S. Government deployed army troops to completely seal off Raccoon City. Furthermore, judging the situation to be hopeless, they launched a missile attack. Everything was burned to ashes, and everything, both living and lifeless, vanished.
The spread of the virus and the U.S. military attack wiped out Raccoon City. However, there were still a few citizens who managed to escape the city. Despite the desperate situation, they never lost their courage and hope, and miraculously survived.
"BIOHAZARD OUTBREAK" depicts an escape drama featuring eight citizens who were in Raccoon City at the time of the incident and got caught up in it. The world has changed, having lost its everyday vitality. Will you be able to escape safely from this city filled with death and terror...

Series Story
BEGINNING
JUL, 1998 [BIOHAZARD]
The case began in the summer of 1998 in the vicinity of the Arklay Mountains on the outskirts of Raccoon City, one of America's most rural cities. From May to July, public anxieties were incensed by frequent bizarre murders that didn't seem to be the work of ordinary people. The Raccoon Police Department, taking a dim view of the situation, sends Bravo Team of S.T.A.R.S. to investigate on a certain day in July, but they vanish in the mountains. S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team is next dispatched to the site and discovers a huge mansion in the forest. Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, and the rest of the team lose several comrades in battle with the monsters that roam the building, but they succeed in joining up with Rebecca Chambers, Bravo Team's only survivor, and barely succeed in escaping. This series of events, later known as the Mansion Incident, exposed the survivors of S.T.A.R.S. to the inhumane weaponry being developed by Umbrella, as well as the existence of the t-Virus which turns humans into Zombies. When Chris and his colleagues learn that the incident was deliberately set up by Umbrella and they were sent to the mansion in order to test the combat prowess of biological weapons, they decide to confront Umbrella.
OUTBREAK
SEP, 1998 [BIOHAZARD 2]
It's the end of September 1998, a few months after the Mansion Incident, in the city of Raccoon City. At Umbrella's bioweapons laboratory inside the city, Dr. William Birkin develops the G-Virus, which produces menacing life-forms. In order to use the virus for his own gain, Dr. Birkin deliberately leaks the t-Virus into the outside world as a means to protect his research from other employees, as well as Umbrella agents who've been ordered to retrieve the virus. The virus spreads throughout Raccoon City through the sewage system, infecting not only surrounding wildlife but also many ordinary citizens. Leon S. Kennedy, who was newly assigned to the Raccoon Police Department at the same time as the virus outbreak, and Claire Redfield, who came to visit her brother Chris, were astonished to bear witness to the Zombie-infested city. While trying to escape the city, they get caught up in Umbrella's internal conflict over the G-Virus. Leon and Claire are repeatedly attacked by "G", a new life-form that continuously evolves, along with Umbrella's bioweapons, or B.O.W. They find themselves in tight spots but work together to overcome their predicament and escape Raccoon City with Dr. Birkin's daughter, Sherry.
EXTINGUISHING
OCT, 1998 [BIOHAZARD 3]
After the Mansion Incident, the S.T.A.R.S. members were under Umbrella's surveillance and their activities were severely restricted. In the midst of this, Jill Valentine pretends to be on her way to Europe, but then secretly returns to Raccoon City to hide out. She's investigating Umbrella's bioweapons lab which is still operating in the city. However, the spread of the t-Virus leaked from the lab turns Raccoon City into a city of the dead, and Jill is forced to escape. On the other hand, Umbrella is also working to resolve the situation. It dispatches several agents to retrieve data, as well as the U.B.C.S., their crisis response team, and sends Nemesis, the new B.O.W. "Pursuer," into the city with orders to eliminate S.T.A.R.S. personnel. Raccoon City is in turmoil, with many different agendas in play. Jill fends off Nemesis' relentless attacks, and with the help of U.B.C.S. soldier Carlos Oliveira, she barely manages to escape the city. However, in order to stem the spread of the virus and conceal its own secrets, the U.S. Government decides to launch a missile attack, and Raccoon City is wiped off the face of the Earth without a trace.

Keyword
► S.T.A.R.S.
S.T.A.R.S. is an acronym for Special Tactics And Rescue Service, a special unit organized by the Raccoon Police Department. S.T.A.R.S. is an elite group comprised of experts in various fields. Although the group was effectively forcefully disbanded after suffering a great deal of damage in the Mansion Incident, its members continue to work on their own to uncover Umbrella's conspiracy.
► Umbrella
A global super conglomerate that has developed through the pharmaceutical industry. Its darkside is deep, including the development of terrifying viruses and biological weapons. However, many key figures in the governments of various countries are also under the thumb of Umbrella, and their inhumane acts have been quietly suppressed.
► B.O.W.
B.O.W. stands for Bio Organic Weapon, an organic life-form created by Umbrella through genetic modification for military use. Many of them are still in the experimental stage, but some have already reached a level for live combat, such as the Hunter, which was developed based on reptiles and humans, and the Tyrant, whose appearance is almost identical to that of a human.
► t-Virus
A horrifying virus created by Umbrella in the midst of developing biological weapons. Umbrella has repeated a wide variety of experiments for practical use because it dramatically improves the abilities of the organisms it's administered to, but at the same time, it causes mutations such as the erosion of body tissues, regression of intelligence, ferocity, and gigantism.
► G-Virus
A virus developed by Umbrella researcher Dr. William Birkin. Cells implanted with the virus rapidly multiply and mutate, responding to the situation at hand and creating a new type of life-form, a G-Creature. Dr. Birkin turned into a G-Creature himself, but in the end he was defeated by Leon and Claire. The G-Virus was later recovered by HUNK, a member of Umbrella's special forces.
► U.B.C.S.
Abbreviation for Umbrella Bio Hazard Counter-measure Service. The U.B.C.S. is an irregular group of criminals and exiled military personnel whose primary mission is to cover up incidents caused by Umbrella products such as B.O.W.'s. They are mainly dispatched to areas where serious biological disasters occur, so their survival rate is extremely low.

ZOMBIE (p.43)
The t-Virus was created by Umbrella, a giant conglomerate, developing biological weapons. A Zombie is the end result of a person infected with the t-Virus. Their skin rots and peels off, and their only desire is to satisfy their hunger as they lose their reason. If you're infected with the virus you have no choice but to become one of them, unless you do something about it.
ZOMBIE DOG (p.044)
A large dog infected with the t-Virus, becoming more ferocious. Its high agility makes it a threat to humans. The type developed by Umbrella as a B.O.W. (biological weapon) is called Cerberus.
CROW (p.045)
A crow that has been secondarily infected by feasting on the carcasses of animals infected with the t-Virus. It attacks its prey while flying through the sky at high speed. They're naturally intelligent and ferocious, but the virus has made them even more dangerous.
SCISSOR TAIL (p.046)
Originally a kind of small arthropod, it has grown to a huge size due to the influence of the t-Virus. It attacks humans with its scissor-shaped tail. There are two species with different colors that appear in this game, but there's no difference in their abilities.
GIANT MOTH (p.047)
A poisonous moth bred in Umbrella's underground laboratory, now grown to a huge size under the influence of the t-Virus. It flies at low speed while spreading poisonous scales. The Baby Moth larvae are also highly toxic.
HUNTER (p.048)
A B.O.W. created by administering the t-Virus to humans and combining the genes of a different species of creature that may have been a reptile. The B.O.W. is a fearsome creature with swift movement, sharp claws, and the intelligence to carry out simple commands.
HUNTER γ (p.049)
This subspecies was created based on amphibians by applying the technology cultivated with the Hunter. It swallows its prey whole in one gulp with its massive mouth. Due to its amphibian nature, it's susceptible to dryness, so is mainly used indoors or on battlefields where there's water.
G MUTANT & G OFFSPRING (p.050)
A G-Cell parasite that fused with human cells and mutated into an adult form by making use of the body of Monica, a researcher who stole the G-Cells, as a substitute, and grew explosively in a short time.
LEECH MAN & LEECH (p.051)
A large number of leeches, which had grown to a huge size due to administration of the t-Virus, latch onto human corpses. Their movements, though a collective, are well-coordinated, and their prowling after blood is like that of a single organism.
GIANT LEECH (p.052)
Among the large leeches, this is an individual that has remarkably grown. It lurks in the underground sewers, waiting for its victims. Its skin is soft and blows with blunt objects are effective, but it's extremely difficult to get close to because of the poison it spreads.
LICKER (p.053)
A mutant which a Zombie evolves into over a short period of time for survival. Their eyes have degenerated and are lost, with their hearing becoming abnormally developed. They crawl along walls, attacking prey with their huge claws and long tongue.
SUSPENDED (p.054)
A subspecies of Licker that has mutated without completely losing its human form. It's superior to conventional Lickers and boasts high physical strength. It uses its developed hind limbs to hang from the ceiling and suspend people below them with their tongue.
GIANT SPIDER (p.055)
A spider that has been enlarged by the t-Virus. Despite its huge size, it moves swiftly and is a dangerous, highly toxic creature. There's also a type Umbrella was developing as B.O.W.
WASP (p.056)
In order to collect material for a t-Virus antibody, wasps were being raised at Raccoon University. The Wasp is a virus-enlarged version of these wasps. It has a poisonous stinger and attacks people who approach the ventilation tower.
NEPTUNE (p.057)
A B.O.W. developed by Umbrella based on the Great White Shark. The individuals appearing in this game are presumed to be a wild version. It appears near a pier on the outskirts of Raccoon University and attacks people who try crossing the bridge.
THANATOS & THANATOS R (REBORN) (p.059)
Of all the B.O.W.s created by Umbrella, the most successful is probably the Tyrant, which possesses both high intelligence and a strong body. Thanatos is a derivative of the Tyrant and was secretly developed by Dr. Greg of Raccoon University on campus after obtaining information from within Umbrella. When it suffers fatal damage, it releases its limiter to increase its combat power and mutates into Thanatos Reborn, which suggests it has abilities comparable to the new Tyrant enhanced at Umbrella headquarters.
Umbrella continues to improve the Tyrant, deploying new models one after another. The Tyrant continues to appear as a boss-level enemy, and is a creature fans are familiar with.
■ Tyrant
Appears in "BIOHAZARD". After running amok in the mansion lab, the Tyrant was destroyed by S.T.A.R.S. team members who came to investigate.
■ Mass-Produced Type Tyrant
Appears in "BIOHAZARD 2". This is a Tyrant that has been improved and successfully mass-produced. It has improved controllability and faithfully carries out orders.
■ Nemesis-T
Appears in "BIOHAZARD 3", deployed in Raccoon City under orders to eradicate S.T.A.R.S. By fusing it with a parasitic organism, it's more intelligent and can now handle weapons.
