Prologue (p.026)
"September 29th 1998..."
Six years ago, I bid farewell to my peaceful life and shining future, I'll never forget that day.
It began with those bizzare murders in the Arklay Mountains. The T-Virus leaked from Umbrella's research facility then broke out in Raccoon City, infecting the citizens and turning the whole city into a living hell with the walking dead (Zombies).
Taking the seriousness of this disaster into account, the U.S. President and Congress decided to carry out the "Sterilization Strategy." By October 2nd 1998, Raccoon City was wiped from the map.
Afterwards, this disaster was called the "Umbrella Incident".
This incident shocked the whole world, and after Raccoon City's destruction, Leon joined a secret underground organization fighting against Umbrella...
After this incident, the US goverment suspended all of Umbrella's bussiness for the seriousness of that tragedy in Raccoon City. Influenced by this, Umbrella's stock prices crashed, and this giant international enterprise was effectively dead.
For surviving the hellish Raccoon City and gaining considerable acclaim in many missions after that, Leon received training as a special agent of the United States, then assumed the responsibility of protecting the President's family. Until someone kidnapped the President's daughter and vanished....
Leon was in charge of this top-secret investigation, and according to intel, information of "a sighting of a girl that looks very similar to the President's daughter in a rural village in Europe" was confirmed, so he set off there immediately.
The Birth of Leon's Handgun (p.032-033)
My name is Leon S. Kennedy.
1998, it was a dramatic year to me....
That year, I was involved in the Umbrella Incident that rocked the whole nation. I really wanted to live a peaceful life, but that disaster shattered this dream. At that time I was very intrigued by those bizzare murders that happened in Raccoon City, so I wrote this city down on my deployment preference paper and wound up involved in this incident the day I reported for duty to the force. After surviving that living hell, I recieved special training as an agent of the United States. I'm directly under the President's command and my main responsibility's "protecting the President's family."
However, not very long after I finished my training, someone abducted the President's daugter, so my first assignment's the most difficult, "VIP rescue", and I'd be sent abroad on this op...
"I'm shit out of luck..." I started to curse it.
According to our intelligence, there's reliable information of "a sighting of a girl that looks very similar to the President's daughter in a rural village in Europe." I was ordered to go there immediately and at top speed, so I started preparing for it.
Since I heard of this mission, I had a very bad feeling about it. From my experience of being in a place of the dead, my gut told me it wasn't a mere field investigation.
For my preparations, I went to a certain store.
"Kendo Gun Shop."
The owner's a very famed gunsmith named "Joe Kendo", a former SWAT member who succeeded in many practically impossible missions, making him a legend.
The Raccoon City special forces unit called "S.T.A.R.S." also used the guns customized by him to fight and survive that hell. I thought a top gun customized by Joe was pretty essential for this mission.
"Hey there Leon!! What's got ya here this late?"
He asked me candidly, like he always does. Though having retired from military service, his eyes are still very sharp.
"I want you to customize a gun for me, bossman..."
"Yea, not a problem!! What kind d'ya want?"
Before he finished talking, he noticed the odd atmosphere, so he asked me again, looks like his eyesight could even penetrate my mind.
"Base gun's the M92F, specs are Brigadier slide... Wilson type 3-point sight... Hybrid type grip...."
"Wow, you've surprised me, that really sounds like the 'Samurai Edge'."
"Sure is... I've got a bad feeling, so I wanna use your masterpiece this time."
"I see, the Samurai Edge is a great gun indeed, this custom can absolutely bring the most out of the M92F's functions. In a sense, it has probably reached the level of a Combat Auto. However, the Samurai Edge is just a gun that's really popular. It's custom-tuned so that almost ayone, even a little boy can use it, it's not a perfect gun. The ultimate tactical gun doesn't require a base gun, every screw should be redesigned, even. I'm gonna show you an excellent one, though it's still a pilot run."
Several days later, I went to Kendo Gun Shop again to get that gun, and I almost couldn't breathe when I saw it.
"It's a totally... new design..."
"Everything I think a tactical gun should have has been added to this gun. Silencer attached to the outer barrel, enhanced slide, 3-dot sight, and polymer frame with undermount attached, magazine catch for both left and right-handed users, and hybrid grip... this is absolutely a new Samurai Edge."
"Perfect, bossman... now I feel like I can make it."
"'Course you can! I can see it in your eyes, bad mission this time?"
"Yeah, I'm afraid it's the most difficult mission..."
"Since that incident, you often seem to see phantoms, those gray phantoms. I think we could call this gun the "Gray Phantom", what d'ya think?"
I interrupted him and started to say something.
"Nah, I'm a spirit pulled from my body, a ghost. I'm a man who vanished from this world in that incident, no, rather, I'm a guy who can't exist in this world. As I wander the dark gray fog, I'll call it the 'Silver Ghost.'"
"Sure thing... Come back alive, Leon..."
As a dense fog was veiling the whole city, the agent stepped out of the shop and walked away, disappearing into the fog, exactly like a ghost...

About the mark on the grip
The mark on the grip of Leon's handgun was originally designed for the symbol of the United States - the bald eagle, but was later changed into Leon's personal mark - a skull.
The Making of Leon's Handgun (p.034)
The Ultimate Full-Scratch
At the beginning, we were thinking what its base gun should be for quite a long time. When you see this gun for the first time, it'll surely remind you of H&K's USP or the SOCOM Mk23, but actually they're subtly different. We were crying, making the gun's slide and frame with some lamination of plastic sticks and plates, and eventually, it was time to make this full-scratch.
To the point of design, we directly transplanted the USP's trigger guard part, and the front part of the SOCOM slide, which is same with the USP, an "air cocking gun" to this gun. Concerning the gun's formation, we mainly used epoxy putty as the material. If dissolved in water, this substance would harden immediately, making it very easy to process. And when the material's in a semi-hardened state, we brushed its whole frame and gave it a frosted texture.
As for the mark of "Kendo·SHOP", it's taken directly from the slide of the limited Samurai Edge and placed on this gun. However, the indication of transplantation would be very clear due to its silver silde, so we filled it with a little bulge to the slide and carefully filed down its surface. We bought some water pipes from the home center and use a junction to make the silencer attachment (the screw) at the front of the outer barrel. What's more, we also tried very hard to tilt the slide, which is lengthened due to the process on the junction, in order to keep the barrel thin.
The serration on slide is made of some plastic sticks equally spaced and attached to the slide. It's tedious work and takes a lot of time. Some moving parts like the hammer and trigger are also attached, after processing on the joints of the full model. This makes them able to function smoothly, and the trigger stop's also live. The medallion's carved when the epoxy putty's in a semi-hard condition. After the image of this gun was determined to be "Ghost", the idea of making Leon's personal mark "The Skull" as its medallion came to us. Something like a laser sight mount is diverted from the same parts of a air cocking gun. This is much shorter than the "BeamFord" laser sight that we planned to use in our early design, but was replaced in the final build. This led to the result that the laser sight itself can't accommodate the battery, so the battery had to be moved into the grip with a wire connected in the code of the switch. The original switch is a dummy, and the real one's placed on the grip. Even this "turning on" problem is carefully concerned, and this is surely this model's good point.
The grip panel's made from laminated plastic plates with a grain style painting. We pared off some plastic sticks to a appropriate size and used them to make those screws. The rough surface of a sandal was cut off, combined with a half-moon shaped plastic stick, then formed in the putty solution and finally attached to the front and back side of the frame. The unique magazine catcher on both left and right side, and some other parts were also reproduced.
