■ "SAMURAI EDGE" USER JILL VALENTINE BELONGS TO THE BSAA
Jill Valentine is of course a former S.T.A.R.S. member and is now in the BSAA. One of the <Original Eleven> founding members of the BSAA when it started as an NGO, she's still enrolled and was active even when the BSAA became a unit under United Nations jurisdiction.

■ NEW SAMURAI EDGE CHALLENGE
In 2004, the Pharmaceutical Industry Association, a trade group with the pharma-companies of various nations among its members, organized the <BSAA (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance)> for the purpose of evading the pressure of criticism by managing the crisis of viral weapons and B.O.W.'s (Bio Organic Weapons), which began to be used for terrorism after leaking due to the collapse of a former corporate member, Umbrella. The BSAA was a civilian NGO framework with the objective of combating bioterrorism. Due to its establishment and purpose in mobilizing, it was essential to procure varied equipment including weapons.
As can be seen from the existence of PMCs (private military companies), even private organizations can procure many weapons with the necessary funds, formalities and a few connections. The BSAA also began procuring them with the backing of the Pharmaceutical Industry Association, but there was someone who looked forward. That was Quint Cetcham, who's engaged in the BSAA as an agent and technician.
Although the individual in question doesn't have much field experience, he received reports from the field, and based on his ample experience analyzing, developing and providing feedback, he anticipated there'd be demand for special gear sooner or later and preached the need for continuous data collection and research.
This claim was verified by the first head of the BSAA, Clive R. O'Brian,
The <Anti-Bioterror Equipment Research Project> began.
As the name "Research" indicates, this project's primary focus isn't developing special gear but rather accumulating research and results. This is because at the time of its inception the BSAA was still a relatively small organization and there were said to be issues on the social, legal and physical sides of a civilian NGO developing weapons, albeit for combating bioterrorism.
Although the project started from a background such as this, chief Quint was himself enthusiastic.
First he decided to start studying the gear used by various anti-bioterror organizations.
Speaking of anti-bioterror organizations at that time, although the American <FBC> was famous, its habitual secrecy was also well-known and it wasn't possible to obtain useful information regarding gear and the like. Naturally it goes without saying the BSAA, including Quint, had no way of knowing the existence of the Sentinel development project for anti-bioterror gear, which the FBC had been working on. Other than that, there were some organizations mobilizing in combating bioterrorism but all of them were mainly supported by existing gear, of which none were fit to be a subject of study.
Next he focused on researching past bioterror cases. He was trying to study what kind of gear was used at bioterror sites and how they contributed to the situation.
What caught Quint's eye among them was the M92F-based handgun <Samurai Edge>, which had been customized and used by the special mission unit S.T.A.R.S. within that Raccoon City's police department. Although S.T.A.R.S. wasn't formed as an organization specializing in bioterrorism, there's said to be no one who doesn't know them since they were deeply involved in the tragic annihilation of Raccoon City, the origin of that Mansion Incident.
It was also convenient the BSAA happened to contain the central figures, Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield.
Quint immediately got in touch with Jill and borrowed her personally stored Samurai Edge to study and examine.
As a result, he concluded the Samurai Edge's high precision and operability were effective not only in peacetime, but also on the field in bioterrorism.
Additionally, Quint was intensely intrigued by the fact the Samurai Edge wasn't a specially designed gun, rather its performance up to this point had been drawn out via customization. Therefore, Quint changed the base to the M9A1 as a practice model and decided to start reproducing the Samurai Edge. This gun would be provided to the original owner active on the frontlines of combating bioterrorism, Jill, after accumulating data provided by test firing, know-how obtained in that process, and completing all analysis.
At that time, a <S.T.A.R.S. R.P.D. Special Team> marking and <CUSTOM SHOP Kendo> marking were added to the slide, as well as a grip medallion, which weren't included during data collection.
This is Quint's playful style and could also be referred to as an episode that expresses the early BSAA's organizational atmosphere.
And that was the moment when the <Samurai Edge A1> was born.

■ SAMURAI EDGE A1 = M9A1 BASE
Even in the world of real firearms, technological evolution never ceases. In constant pursuit of "ease of handling", "ease of firing" and "functional beauty", new trials are incorporated and new models are being created one after another. However, in American gun society, their fate depends greatly on whether or not they are adopted by the <military>. Most guns will fade away without being adopted, mass-produced or sold for civilian use. No matter how much they're referred to as great guns after the fact.
The <M9A1> is an evolution of the <M92F>. Its detailed specifications were polished at the request of the U.S. Marine Corps and while regulatory adoption proceeded, alterations were made to match the times. Equipped on the front section of the frame is the Picatinny-standard underrail, indispensable for installing tactical devices that've become necessities in modern times, with the ability to install flashlights essential for modern indoor combat. In addition, operational stability has been improved by amending the checkering (non-slip) on the grip section.
Based on such an <M9A1>, it has been customized as the <Samurai Edge A1>.
1: The thickness of the <Brigadier slide> has been increased and the locking part has been strengthened, along with engravings of <S.T.A.R.S.> and <CUSTOM SHOP Kendo>.
2: The <hybrid custom grip> is a fusion of a <wood type grip> and a <rubber type grip>.
3: The center of the grip is equipped with a <S.T.A.R.S. personal medallion>. The medallion is arranged in Jill Valentine's personal color <light blue>.
4: Includes personal gun case made of reinforced plastic (contains serial no.).
With the <Samurai Edge A1> that's been refined to match the times, Jill Valentine's new battle begins!
