Prologue
In October 1998, a small industrial city in the American midwest, Raccoon City, literally vanished from the map.
It was the result of the U.S. Government undertaking a "countermeasure" to restrain the outbreak of an epidemic that broke out on a massive scale.
Around the same time, in a different suburban city...
Flames rise from a heavy truck plunged into the shoulder of the main street.
However, there's no sight of rushing fire engines.
Several figures are visible around it, but for some reason seem totally unconcerned about this situation.
Besides the sounds of flames occasionally smoldering with crackles along with the noises of moans and screams subtly carried by the wind, the town's engulfed in abnormal silence.
Suddenly a roar rings out and a helicopter appears in the night sky.
However, the helicopter suddenly loses control flying over a building with a corporate logo, the mark of an umbrella, before swaying and plummeting into the urban district.
A man walking in a back alley raises his face to the light illuminating the surroundings for an instant with a quake.
The man walks with a swaying gait toward the crash site with no sign of concern, despite white ribs sticking out from his shredded chest.
CODE:Blanket Order Issued
Completely Obliterate UM26E
As the setting sun ominously stains the area like blood, several black helicopters receive a special mission from headquarters and take off.
With the name of "Trashsweepers", their other duties are to eliminate surviving residents and completely purge the target area.
Flat against the walls on both sides and lined up on-board is a squad of soldiers dressed in special equipment that's the same jet black as the helicopter.
Standing by without moving an inch, the soldiers' forearms are unnatural for humans, with long and thin cables extending into the soldiers' heads from a centrally installed device inside the aircraft, the LED lights on their goggles occasionally flickering randomly.
"Lives created to die... what ironic beings."
The operation close at hand, the male commander mutters to himself while staring at his subordinates undergoing final adjustments and studying the mission.
In several hours, only he will be able to return home in the helicopter.
Now the helicopters gradually change color from red to deep black as they move through the twilight overlooking the sea, the group of helicopters fan out on the dull rippling ocean under the sunshine that's about to vanish, and change course to the northwest before fading away into the night sky, as if melting.

Barrel length: 120mm
Weight: 1000g
Bullet capacity: 15 +1
A model designed by Bruno Arms in the former Czechoslovakia and manufactured by Česká Zbrojovka (a state-owned firearms factory). This handgun was based on the Belgian FN high-powered pistol that was popular as a military gun at the time, and the trigger action was updated from a single action to the latest double action. It was exported to western European countries with great success. The slim grip makes it easy to hold and easy to shoot.

The G model of Beretta's new semi-compact pistol "Cougar" series, developed in the 1990s. It features a unique firing mechanism with a rotating barrel. It was designed to achieve both greater firepower as well as a smaller size shorter in overall length than the company's M92F, making it compatible with high-powered ammunition. It has low recoil when firing, high accuracy and good elasticity.
NAMBU TYPE 14 CUSTOM (p.012)
Caliber: 8mm
Overall: 230mm
Barrel length: 120mm
Weight: 920g
Bullet capacity: 8 +1
The Nambu Type 14's an automatic pistol manufactured from 1925 and formally adopted by the former Japanese Army. It was Japan's first automatic pistol, characterized by its low recoil and high accuracy when fired. The actual Nambu Type 14 was a gun that used 5mm cap powder, but the Nambu Type 14 that appears in "BIOHAZARD GUN SURVIVOR" has been modified to use 9mm parabellum ammunition, making it much more powerful.
COMBAT SHOTGUN SPAS-12 (p.015)
Gauge: 12 Gauge
Overall: 800mm
Barrel length: 550mm
Weight: 3510g
Bullet capacity: 8 +1
An Italian-made combat shotgun. It has a mechanism that allows the user to switch between gas operated semi-automatic and manual pump action. It's used by many of the world's special forces, including the Italian police's anti-terror unit, the French military police's special forces unit GIGN, and the British Air Force's special forces unit SAS. This is the reason why it's called the most radical shotgun.
M79 GRENADE LAUNCHER (p.016)
Caliber: 40mm
Overall: 737mm
Barrel length: 356mm
Weight: 2720g
Bullet capacity: 1
The grenade launcher was formally adopted by the U.S. military in 1960. It was developed to send bombs farther with more force than hand grenades. Its simple mid-fold structure fires single-shot professional rounds, such as shotgun shells and tear gas shells, along a parabolic trajectory. The barrel's rifled for ballistic stability. As is to be expected, no such guns are produced today, but between 1961 when production began, and 1971 when it ended, about 350,000 guns were manufactured.
M19 COMBAT MAGNUM 4inch (p.019)
Caliber: 0.357inch
Overall: 243mm
Barrel length: 102mm

HERO (p.021)
This story's main character. He's embroiled in this incident just as he loses all his memories due to a helicopter crash. The most important thing for him from now on is to somehow survive to escape the city teeming with monsters and recover his own lost memories. Eventually he learns of a shocking secret hidden in the city... For some reason, he's skilled with firearms, and relies on his skills to race through the deadly city.
MYSTERIOUS MAN (p.022)
A person who has a history with the protagonist
The first person the protagonist meets in this city. He's lying face down in a back alley, not moving at all... Is he dead? In his hand he's tightly grasping a name tag that reads Ark Thompson. The main character seems to have had some kind of relationship with the man in the white uniform and faintly recognizes him, but his memory's still deeply foggy.
ANDY
An underground recluse
A middle-aged man who calls the protagonist Vincent, and a murderer, displaying overt fear and hostility toward him. He's the janitor of the city's sewage system. He has a hobby of using his Polaroid camera to take photos of things that flow into the sewers, with a wall of miscellaneous pictures stuck to the wall of his office. In this unusual situation, his sense of reason's on the brink of insanity.
LOTT
A boy who knows the protagonist's past
A boy with sharp eyes for someone his age. He meets the protagonist in a room in the sewers running under the city. He seems to know something about the protagonist before he lost his memory. He's more afraid of the protagonist than needs be, fearing he might kill him, and desperately tries to escape. He swings his beloved baseball bat in his hands and refuses to listen to what the protagonist says.
LILY
An innocent girl on the run
The protagonist meets a girl who looks to be less than 10-years-old in a huge building in the center of town. She looks like any other girl, her overalls appliquéd with bears and her hair tied up in two knots. Apparently managing to survive this tragedy by hiding herself, she's frightened and tries to escape from the hero's grasp.
MYSTERIOUS KILLERS (p.024)
A mysterious unit that wears night vision goggles and black clothes, with laser sight-equipped submachine guns in their hands. A tall man equipped with a red-eye scope serves as the commander. For reasons unknown, they go around mercilessly killing the monsters that roam the city from one end to the other. However, they're also targeting all survivors in the city, including women and children, so they don't seem to be acting to protect the city from the monsters. They're truly a group of murderers.

Character Profile (p.124-125)
Ark Thompson
A young detective brimming with a sense of justice, and a friend of Leon S. Kennedy from the Raccoon Police Department. After receiving a request from Leon, Ark infiltrated Sheena Island alone to investigate Umbrella's schemes. He finally uncovered a devilish plot and successfully destroyed some of the research results, but the island's commander, Vincent, cornered him in the Umbrella building. Ark stole a helicopter and escaped, but a relentless Vincent was in close pursuit and caused the helicopter to crash, and at that point he lost his memory. In order to conduct his investigation, he contacted the sewer manager Andy right after infiltrating Sheena Island while pretending to be Vincent, and his plan backfires because Andy, believing Ark to be Vincent, ends up going after Ark after he loses his memory.
Vincent Goldman
A young elite of Umbrella Pharmaceuticals assigned as commander of this island in succession to his suddenly deceased predecessor. An exceptional leader and all the while an ingenious scientist, he commenced top-secret biological experiments for the company using the island's facility. With an extremely sadistic personality, he disposed of a colleague for his personal advancement and had no hesitation in expending countless people as research material. By his own hand, he even fatally shot test subjects who escaped from the research facility in order to completely kill the worms. Due to his overwhelming cruelty even Umbrella employees themselves, not to mention the townspeople, feared him, and citing excessively brutal acts, they attempted to have him removed from his commander position. However, he obtained news of that beforehand and leaked the T-Virus throughout the entire town before it was reported to headquarters, causing all the inhabitants to transform into Zombies and concealing the truth. Naturally, dead men tell no tales. However, even the top-secret experiments he was conducting were well-known information to Umbrella Headquarters, and in their bold connivance, they were allowing him to continue his research.
Lott Klein
A 12-year-old boy whose father was chief of the Gene Application & Engineering Laboratory on Sheena Island. Ever since he could remember, he was brought up being told nothing but stories of natural selection and racial dominance by his father, being tainted with Umbrella's supremacy doctrine which states it's natural for superior Umbrella humans to control inferior humans. It was also a natural consequence that he informed Vincent, the island's supreme commander, of the townspeople plotting a rebellion, as well as private detective Ark Thompson's sniffing around Vincent. However, due to the incident that occurred this time around, the misfortune of his parents transforming into monsters happened before his very eyes, and with that as a trigger, once he understood the cause lied in Vincent, the things he believed for many years were shattered. The thought of attempting to justify that conflicts with his own powerlessness and feelings of guilt, leaving Lott frightened and confused.
Lily Klein
Lott's younger sister. Until just two days prior, she was a very typical 8-year-old girl who spent her happy days surrounded by her tough father, kind mother, and close older brother. At the incident's outbreak, obediently honoring her parent's final request which was a cry for her to try to quickly escape, she promptly took refuge in the Umbrella building and escaped from trouble. Afterwards she was hiding herself while shivering like a cat until the roars and screams that enveloped the town would vanish. Somehow she has to reunite with Lott, as she realizes her older brother's become the only person she can rely upon in this world.
Andy Holland
An American employed by Umbrella Pharmaceuticals to patrol the island's sewage treatment facility that's so old no one can repair it. In reality, he's an ex-convict who has racked up numerous crimes (theft, burglary, assault, etc). Even while thinking it suspicious Umbrella would grant work to someone like himself, Andy, believing a life better than his current one was possible, left his defaulted apartment behind and traveled to Sheena Island. Since he spent almost a year alone inside the dark sewers, his workplace, he hadn't fully grasped the truth about Umbrella. More than that, he's an oddball estranged from everyday life with an interest in photographing the town's garbage as it flows into the sewer.
Under Taker Commander / Under Taker Unit
Also called Umbrella's Trashsweepers, a disposable evidence destruction unit applied to top-secret missions of hazard degree A+ class. Their tactics consist of two phases, total elimination of witnesses and destruction of the target area. The only human's the commander who leads the artificial biological force, they're artificial beings equipped with MP5 automatic machine guns and single night-vision scopes, and upon conclusion of their operations, they self-destruct in accordance with a pre-programmed command. Only the commander's permitted to return. In this operation on Sheena Island, their orders are to conceal the biohazard that broke out due to Commander Vincent's recklessness then destroy the entire island using the research facility's self-destruct device.

Background (p.125)
The Story's Setting Is Sheena Island
The Umbrella Corporation gained high appraisal as an international pharmaceutical company. In contrast to the company name which has the meaning of protecting people under an umbrella, in reality it's a merchant of death for advancing development of biological weapons in total secrecy. The company's pilot plants are scattered throughout the world with the solitary island in Europe, "Sheena Island", being one of the research facilities owned by Umbrella where a large-scale weapons factory is located. Umbrella Corp. purchased the entire town on this island with researchers and their families coming over to live there. The Bio Organic Weapon "Tyrant" became the main product line for R&D on Sheena Island, and additional improvements are being made.

B.O.W. Profiles (p.126-127)
B.O.W. (Bio Organic Weapon) is the generic name for bioweapons developed by Umbrella. Below we introduce the B.O.W.'s documented on Sheena Island.
WHAT'S THE T-VIRUS...
One of the artificial viruses manufactured by Umbrella Pharmaceuticals that harbors the power to rapidly transform organisms. The T-Virus causes the bodies of infected creatures to enlarge with high durability and acquire new capabilities impossible for evolution in the natural world. It's the raw material most suitable for creating Bio Organic Weapons. At the same time however, since there are side-effects in which ferocity increases and intelligence remarkably declines, the current problems have become establishing efficient control methods and conserving intelligence above the standard as a weapon. Since it also has the ability to make gene synthesis between different species comparatively easy, this virus was mass-produced within Umbrella and supplied to each research facility for the development of new B.O.W. models.
Zombie
Humans afflicted with the T-Virus spread by Vincent. Losing their rational mind and consciousness, they're driven by intense hunger and wander in search of human flesh. In addition, abnormality in metabolic function causes the flesh to rot, making their outward appearance like a corpse. There are also enhanced Zombies created by artificially administering test subjects with the T-Virus.
Zombie Dog
Police or military dogs that've been infected with the T-Virus and become canine Zombies. They have the same rotted appearance as their human counterparts, but their agility hasn't deteriorated at all and they bite ferociously.
Giant Spider
A spider that has grown incredibly large due to the effects of the leaked T-Virus. It spits venom at its prey to kill them.
Crow
After feasting on the flesh of dead Zombies and other creatures, Crows were secondarily infected with the T-Virus. It's very dangerous as its body has become larger and more rabid, and it attacks in groups.
Licker
A Zombie mutant that has been further consumed by the T-Virus. It has completely lost both its original human appearance and behavior, walks on all fours on the ground and ceilings, and uses its giant claws and whip-like tongue as weapons. Its vision has degenerated but its hearing has improved, and it responds sensitively to the sounds made by prey and attacks. In addition, the nickname Licker was given to it by the Raccoon Police when they first engaged this monster.
Giant Moth
A moth afflicted with the T-Virus that has become warped and gigantic. It glides disgustingly while scattering its scales.
Large Roach
A giant cockroach that's about 30cm under the influence of the T-Virus. They inhabit the sewers in groups.
Alligator
Gators that lived in the sewers. Under the influence of the T-Virus, their bodies have grown gigantic to over ten meters.
Hunter
A B.O.W. developed based on humans. It's an alert and agile monster with phenomenal jumping power, sharp claws and high intelligence, making it able to cooperate with companions and understand simple commands. Considerable numbers have already been mass-produced with a degree of perfection and high practicality, and enhanced models are also being developed in other Umbrella research facilities.
Ivy
A B.O.W. developed based on plants. By ingesting water vapor from the air on the surface of its body, it's capable of walking around without taking root. It moves slowly while wiggling its whip-like tentacles and spitting out highly acidic mucus.
Tyrant
The ultimate T-Virus B.O.W. Umbrella devoted most of its power to develop. With its human-like appearance, terrifying destructive power and intelligence that allows it to follow any given order, it's more than merely a bioweapon. As their main B.O.W. series, various new Tyrant models are being studied in several Umbrella research facilities around the world, with the weapons plant at Sheena Island mainly focused on developing a new mass-production system to create a new type of Tyrant.
Hypnos-T Type
Many cells of different types were made to fight and those that survived were thrown at each other again... a powerful gene of the victorious cell was selected to create the most powerful B.O.W. by incorporating it into the Tyrant's genes... Commander Vincent advanced a new B.O.W. model development project on his own accord. Hundreds of thousands of gene selections were conducted over about three weeks. As the experiment continued, with no distinction between day and night, the scientists were struck with sleepiness and a certain cell was selected out of all the other cells. The scientists named the gene of this cell Hypnos (God of Sleep). Due to this project a prototype was completed, of a powerful B.O.W. smaller than the conventional Tyrant.
