On 27th March, 1998, Capcom released an official guidebook for Resident Evil 2 titled Biohazard 2 Official Guide Book. Among other things, a 40 question interview with Hideki Kamiya can be found in this book, and in the interview, I’ve found some cool bits of info that were re-explored or altered during the production of RE3 and later titles. I’m showing those in this short post.
Q: Where are Chris, Jill, Barry and Rebecca?
A: Chris’, Jill’s and the rest’s movements, except for their heading to Europe, are unclear for now. And about Rebecca… it might be revealed pretty soon.

Q: What’s the story with Brad turning into a zombie?
A: After Chris and the rest of the survivors returned from the mansion, it’s not hard to imagine what happened between them and Brad considering his personality… In short: being a coward, he kept taking the police chief’s side in denying Chris and the others’ desperate claims, getting by by appealing to the organisation that was the police. Even after Chris and the guys flew over to Europe, Brad still remained at the police station, and basically got involved in the incident.
Here’s a bonus question as well that describes a cut idea for RE2:

Q: Tell me about cut ideas.
A: We planned to include Ada’s boyfriend, John, as a sort of sub-story. To make up for his assistance in Umbrella’s evildoings, he would’ve supported the main characters from the background even while his own body was being ravaged by the T-virus, and at the end, he would’ve given the player “anti-T-virus rounds” to finish off the tyrant, and he would’ve died afterwards without meeting Ada once… It would’ve also depended on the player whether he made it to the final parts of the game as he would’ve been affected by the zapping system… […]
