July 1998.
The bizarre murder cases that occurred around Raccoon City, a small city located in the midwestern United States, saw a tentative resolution through the deployment of the special mission unit S.T.A.R.S. led by the city police.
But the truth of these cases, which wrought a considerable number of victims, was strangely buried in the dark without any concrete reports coming to light.
In the midst of entrenched daily life, the people allowed their concerns to fade.
It looked as if it was all over.
Two months went by.
As the signs of autumn wear on in the forest encircling Raccoon, inside an abyss no one was aware of, something happened.
A madness that dramatically distorts everyday life has begun creeping into the peaceful Raccoon City...
It was assumed to be a rare disease.
Many citizens complained of developing fever and itching of the skin, as well as their consciousness deteriorating.
However, it was all the same as that Mansion Incident.
The invisible demonic virus has now spread throughout the city.
Communication with the outside world has been cut off within Raccoon City, rendering it a solitary island on land.
Now, the scourge of a biohazard is about to be repeated there.
A dark and endless night, tinged with blood and flesh, has commenced...

CHARACTERS
Leon S. Kennedy (p.005)
Personal Data
Height: 178cm
Weight: 70.2kg
Age: 21
Blood Type: A
A rookie police officer who was intrigued by the bizarre murder cases that frequently occurred around Raccoon City and personally volunteered to be assigned there. Possessing very strong senses of duty and justice, he excels in being able to take action despite his lack of practical experience. However, his looseness with respect to time is somewhat overwhelming, and one of the reasons he was embroiled in this incident so deeply was the fact he was late, because he left for work following sunset after the first day of his appointment.
Considerations from monitoring
There aren't many clues to Leon's personality among the information presented in the game. However, the jeep he uses to travel to Raccoon City seems to be his favorite car, and the fact he carries a lighter, even though there are no scenes of him smoking, suggests he's an active young man who likes to live outdoors. Also, judging from his skillful use of the Desert Eagle, a military pistol he acquired, it can be said his skills when it comes to handling firearms are far beyond those of an ordinary police officer. His background prior to his appointment's unknown, but his survival skills appear to be very high.
The Desert Eagle's the world's largest handgun, boasting .50 caliber. The impact of firing A.E (Action Express) ammunition is so intense even a professional gunsmith cannot handle it easily. It's a weapon that requires skill and physical strength.
Claire Redfield (p.007)
Personal Data
Height: 169cm
Weight: 52.4kg
Age: 19
Blood Type: O
An inquisitive female college student brimming with curiosity and full of vigor, she knows how to freely ride motorcycles. Two months have passed since contact was cut off with her older brother Chris, a member of the special mission unit S.T.A.R.S. of the Raccoon Police Department, and feeling uneasy about a connection with the bizarre murder cases just being rumored at that time, she went into Raccoon City alone. In terms of personality, she's unyielding and adventurous, and since she acts without depending on others, you can also witness scenes where she troubles Leon, whom she meets by chance. She has an unusual special skill for a college girl, being adept with her hands and capable of picking simple locks with a single safety pin.
Considerations from monitoring
On the vast American continent, most people use cars to get around, and many of those who dare to ride motorcycles love them with all their hearts. Claire in particular's a hardcore motorcyclist, having rode all the way to Raccoon City. She also wears a large survival knife on her shoulder in her brother's style, indicating she's been greatly influenced by Chris, who's six years older than her. Her ability to easily wield a grenade launcher may have been instilled in her by Chris, who had served in the military.
Unlike Japan, America, where gasoline is cheap, is a car paradise. Wind-swept bikes are a bit unsuitable for riding at high speeds across large territories. Claire's a biker with a policy.
Ada Wong (p.008)
Personal Data
Age: Unknown
Blood Type: AB
As can be seen from her name, she's the Chinese lover of the Umbrella researcher, John, who appeared only by name in the previous game and hasn't been heard of for half a year. She came to Raccoon City in search of clues on him, and with a very cool attitude, she doesn't seem disturbed at all, even in a police station with wandering Zombies. She's a woman with a mysterious aura and little sign she's concerned about her lover being alive or dead.
Considerations from monitoring
Ada's shooting style's unique, with the barrel lying on its side. This is a style that's become popular in recent years in movies and other media, said to be geared toward preventing the gun's aim from gradually turning upward due to the recoil of firing. Although this isn't an officially adopted shooting technique, the fact that she has this knowledge suggests she's familiar with guns on a daily basis. She's also very practical.
Due to the structure of the human body, the elbows bend to absorb recoil in the normal style. By turning them sideways, it's possible to shoot accurately in rapid succession, although the burden of impact's increased. Ada's rapid fire when the player isn't in control is noteworthy.
Sherry Birkin (p.009)
Personal Data
Age: 12
Blood Type: O
Avoiding the accident that occurred in Raccoon City, she quickly fled into the police station and was attacked by Zombies. While running about trying to escape, she's discovered by Claire who she later cooperates with. As she's the only daughter of Umbrella researchers William and Annette, who are deeply involved in this incident, the large pendant on her chest containing a photo with her parents also harbors a secret she doesn't know about. She's a sad girl who's being relentlessly chased by mysterious monsters.
Considerations from monitoring
She's extremely cautious and shy, but this can be seen as a reflection of her loneliness. Once she open her heart to someone, she tends to indulge them to the fullest, and in addition to this she's also often overwhelmed, even in times of emergency she'll crouch down and try to attract attention or want to hold hands. It's as if she's trying to win back the affection she never had...
Sherry tries to hold hands with Claire as she stands beside her. And if the distance between them is even a little bit too much, she may feel abandoned and cower in place to attract attention. I wonder if her loneliness is the reason for the many scenes of her hugging.
Ben Bertolucci (p.010)
A freelance journalist in Raccoon City, known as a considerably capable individual, who was suspicious over the fact the bizarre incidents that were occurring hadn't been unraveled despite causing many victims. In order to scoop the truth, he'd stayed in this city for about a month, continuing his reporting until he was detained in a holding cell inside the Raccoon City police station after looking into the personal life of Chief Irons. After the incident however, he acutely sensed danger and seems to have shut himself up in his cell with a key he filched from a guard in his hands. His skills as a reporter are first class and he gathered information about Umbrella from Raccoon citizens, normally apt to keep their mouths shut, appearing to have already obtained significant evidence about the series of incidents. Although he's pesky about money and the strength of his ambition comes and goes, he has the soul of a journalist attempting to expose evil and injustice under the light of day.
Brian Irons
The top official of the Raccoon City Police with a strong reputation as a mild-mannered chief who safeguards the city's security and the lives of its citizens. His true face however, hidden beneath a mask, was rumored to be riddled with greed, even long-time collusion with Umbrella. He was reluctant to continue investigating the series of bizarre murder cases around Raccoon City, and with evidence that he intentionally erased the testimonies of the surviving S.T.A.R.S. officers, suspicions are growing that these were cover-ups out of consideration for Umbrella, who were behind the incidents. In addition, according to an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, it became clear from fragmentary information that Brian committed two sexual assaults on women during his school days, an unbecoming fact for the past of a police officer. He's an extremely dangerous and uncontrollable individual with no distinction between good and evil.

MONSTER DATA
Zombie (p.037)
Many were Raccoon citizens but have lost their sense of reason as humans and are motivated by an extreme appetite. The people became corpses under the influence of the T-Virus. The whole body's muscles have already begun deteriorating, and the blood-congested skin covering them falls off and exposes bone. In addition, their freakish vitality's due to the exponential metabolic functions of the T-Virus, which require a huge amount of energy to maintain. The Zombies therefore wander in constant search for human flesh. Furthermore, it's inferred that their strong stomach acid, which they also use as an offensive measure, functions to quickly digest the food they eat.
Zombie Dog (p.040)
A Doberman of the Raccoon Police infected with the T-Virus. There's little muscle deterioration, and in these individuals' case there's no loss to their alert and agile movement in comparison with a human Zombie. At the side of the kennel where they were kept was a manhole leading to the sewer, where contaminated organisms invaded from and became how they were infected with the virus. In addition, the number of infected people in the station's believed to have increased dramatically as the infected dogs inflicted injuries on the breeding officials.
Giant Spider (p.041)
A spider that grew astoundingly under the influence of chemicals mixed in the sewage. With its enormous growth it became impossible to hunt in webs, so it captures targets directly. On the other hand, the spider's original behavior strongly remains and it can freely walk on walls while spitting venom. They have strong instincts, in addition to appetite, and a large number of small spiders lurk inside the bodies of female spiders. Most of the spiders living in the sewer (treatment plant), in which the presence of small spiders cannot be documented in their bodies, are presumed to be males.
Crow (p.042)
Crows which inhabited Raccoon Forest surrounding Raccoon City. A significant number of corpses were left in Raccoon City as a result of this incident and they made forays into the urban areas in search of food. No major apparent changes can be observed but their appetite and aggression have glaringly increased, and it follows that they support secondary transmission of the T-Virus.
Giant Moth
A moth kept for experiment use which enlarged under chemical influences. Balance between its wings and body was worsened by becoming gigantic, and now it can't fly and is only able to leap from its abdomen. The phosphorus powder characterizing moths increased in proportion to the size of its body and its toxicity increased accordingly. There's a small number of adult Giant Moths compared to the number of eggs and larvae, which seems to be due to the fact that the success rate of emergence is reduced as a result of the abnormal enlargement.
Baby Moth
Giant Moth larva before growing into a moth. It spews mucus on small animals and preys on them when they stop moving. It has a habit of approaching warm things, responding to human body temperature and computer technology.
Ivy (p.044)
A plant-based Bio Organic Weapon. It was created based on the data of Plant 42 which was studied in the mansion and there are clear similarities in the shape of the buds on its arms. The means of replenishing water was a bottleneck for an independently moving plant and was solved by ingesting water vapor from the surface of its body. Therefore it's very sensitive to contaminants in the air, but it also has a very high ability to adapt to such environmental changes. Its generally slow movement's believed to be due to each part being moved by utilizing the motion of bodily fluids.
Ivy
An autonomous mobile plant with a near-humanoid shape. It adroitly uses its ivies to prey on nearby things. With a stamen and pistil, it's capable of reproducing with seeds.
Poison Ivy
An Ivy with toxicological properties under the influence of the P-ε gas. The buds at the head and limbs are discolored red. It extracted a green poison during the gas neutralization process.
Large Roach (p.045)
Cockroaches that live in the sewer and are 30 to 40cm long. Due to the influence of the leaked T-Virus, they've grown rapidly and are now large enough to consume rats as their staple food. They bite at the soft parts of their prey when attacking, so if a human were being attacked, they can tear the carotid artery, resulting in death.
Licker (Page 046)
A deformed monster born as a result of a mutation caused by a Zombie being further invaded by the T-Virus. Along with transforming from a Zombie, the skeleton itself was also significantly morphed, leading to distinctive features such as quadrupedal walking and an exposed brain. Additionally, since the skin covering the entire body has peeled off, new muscle has formed from within, thereby dramatically improving its instantaneous power. Its visual organs, the eyes, have been lost due to the significant physical changes, but since its auditory system has abnormally developed, it's capable of accurately picking up prey with only sound.
Licker
Its name (licker) comes from its unusually long tongue. When it senses danger, it wakes up and readies for combat.
Improved Licker
An evolution of the Licker with dark green muscles. The claws on both hands are even larger and its durability's improved.
Alligator (p.048)
An alligator which lived in the sewers became gigantic under the influence of the T-Virus and transformed into a monster ten meters in length, at the same level as a dinosaur. Since it lives in a garbage dump where oversized trash such as refrigerators are scattered around, it has a habit of biting things once they're in front of it to check hardness, shape, or whether they're living creatures. It was originally kept in a home, but it doesn't look like a pet anymore.
Tyrant (p.049)
The ultimate form of a T-Virus B.O.W. which Umbrella concentrated its research ability know-how to perfect. It's an evolved version of the out-of-control Code T-002 model in the mansion, and in addition to improved recovery ability, they also succeeded in making it act in accordance with given commands. Its practicality as a bioweapon was increased by realizing an appearance closer to a human, and although it's large, if further miniaturization efforts progress, it'll also become possible to camouflage the B.O.W. as a human and send it into enemy territory.
Tyrant
The coat it wears has some bulletproof and explosion-proof properties, but its most significant function appears to be to camouflage as a human.
Super Tyrant
An irregular form where the life support function went critical, causing its limiter to disconnect. The T-002 model's characteristics are obvious all over.
What's A G-Organism? (p.052)
A phenomenal life-form whose physical capabilities are enhanced to the limit through the action of the G-Virus. Since it's not an official Umbrella B.O.W., it's tentatively called a G-Organism. The body of a human administered the G-Virus is rapidly eaten away by G-Cells, causing changes to their physical form with every moment. In this way, in the sense that it transforms humans into a completely different creature, it could even be said the G-Virus is a virus that promotes "evolution." In addition, a G-Organism reproduces by implanting embryos into the human body, but when there's little genetic similarity between the base individual and the host, the parasite destroys the host from within due to an intense rejection.
G Adult Organism
An individual born through an imperfect breeding method, referred to as pseudo-replication, as a result of rejection with a host. It spits out G Young Organisms, as if spilling out of its mouth, but they have no ability to reproduce themselves.
G First Form (Page 053)
As the asymmetrical figure retains the original form of a human with a greatly-protruding right shoulder, its grotesqueness stands out more. Even in the initial stage of transformation, it has durability beyond comparison to that of Zombies and its G-Cell invaded right arm boasts superhuman strength capable of easily tearing off an iron railing. It has occasional shaky movements similar to vertigo due to a significant increase in body mass as a result of becoming a G-Organism.
G Second Form (p.054)
G-Cell erosion has progressed throughout the upper body with the exception of the left arm, and a new head has been formed near the spine separately from the base human head. As a result, the internal skeleton has undergone major changes and the giant claws on its right arm also became sharper due to the former bones on the tips of the hands becoming sharper, and it's believed to have become capable of extending and retracting them. Judging from its appearance, it also appears G has formed a completely new brain.
G Third Form (p.055)
The proliferating G-Cells have reached the lower half of the body and new eyeball tissue has developed on the left thigh. The auxiliary arms that emerged in the second form have developed to an extent comparable to a normal arm, and the original arms that significantly overhang on the back project a silhouette reminiscent of a winged demon. There's believed to be a huge heart in the raised chest, and it can be observed that abnormalities have also arisen in its circulatory system.
G Fourth Form Post-Transformation (p.056)
Morphological alterations to G accompanying the proliferation of G-Cells are also induced by overcompensation in responding to threats to its life. At this stage, it has ceased walking and become a beast type, acquiring high mobility unable to be realized by a human type. The large jaw on its chest, integrated with its head, is believed to be for more active food intake, and supports the fact its energy demands have increased in proportion with its physique.
G Fourth Form Pre-Transformation (p.057)
Although it's very similar in appearance to the third form, there are subtle differences in the shape of its chest. When it's dealt a certain amount of damage, it transforms into a beast type, thought to be because the G-Cells have spread throughout the body and the bipedal type's morphological evolution has reached its limit.
G Fifth Form (p.058)
The body's volumetric mass has increased more than ever, reflecting the high intake of food in the fourth form. The four arms transformed into tentacles resulting in a mollusk-like body that dexterously invades even tight spaces. Human-shaped lumps of meat can be seen in the undigested substance covering the surface of its body, indicating it consumed the lab Zombies as an energy source.

CITY AREA IMAGE STORY - GUN SHOP TRAGEDY
---A guy outta luck.
Shopkeeper Robert Kendo, owner of Kendo Gun Shop, trained his eyes on the strong back of the young man who came into his store a moment ago.
The policeman, who just arrived at the Raccoon Police Department, hasn't yet recovered from the shock of witnessing groups of Zombies roaming the city. However, though overwhelmed with despair, the shopkeeper seemed to be able to maintain his body filled with vitality even under this situation.
---But. This here Raccoon's now a city of the dead. Nobody's survived. Nobody... Goddammit! Since when did we fall into the world of Barker, King and the like?
While defending the entrance of the gun shop, the only safe place for him, Robert noticed himself holding the grip of his Remington M1100-P shotgun until his fingers turned white.
---How long do I need to wait here to wake up from the long nightmare? Don't have many shotgun shells left. With what looks like an H&K VP70 in that young cop's hands, it'd be difficult to stop those accursed dead from moving. Those guys don't die just from firing a 9mm bullet into their heart. Just like a splatter movie, you gotta neatly destroy the brain...
Robert shrugged, smiling wryly, the detailed specs of guns would arbitrarily come to mind because of his profession. He'd feel relaxed if he at least still had the special order Desert Eagle he hand-delivered to his buddy Barry in S.T.A.R.S. the other day... Those 50-caliber AE bullets could even kill an elephant.
Suddenly something seemed to move across the thick display window. Robert narrowed his eyes and peered through the glass out into the darkness of the street.
Crawling there were white, swollen fingers. Their outer skin was dripping off, fingers of the dead with vividly dark red rotten flesh inside--- they were pressing against the tempered glass separating the store from the outside world.
Gazing with cloudy white eyes, the dead were staring right into Robert, envious of the living. There he recognized a face he knew that startled him, as if an electrode was pressed against his back. Staring at him with pale blue eyes was the old man of the Arukas clothing store next to his shop. They'd gone out to the bar together just a few days ago.
Almost at the same moment, Robert's throat leaked out a whistle-like scream and the windows were shattered by the pressure of the dead.
A group of Zombies shredded with glass shards but feeling no pain sprang on Robert all at once. He was gripped with tremendous strength and pulled down to the floor with no time to point the muzzle. The shot he fired in desperation hardly tore the air.
His vocal cords convulsed with terror and he could no longer speak. The dead ate their way into his stomach and were dragging his intestines, the sight before him felt like it was happening in some other world. His senses of pain and reality were paralyzed as well. He seemed to burst into laughter. They were also gnawing at his jaw and ears. Bright red blood splattered like a fountain from his devoured throat. He held back his laughter and thought to himself. This is a dream, a dream...
"What the hell... Shit!"
The young cop--- the sorrowful curse shouted by Leon and resounding gunshots were the last sounds in the world heard by Robert Kendo. Then his consciousness was flooded with a deep darkness. For an eternal never-waking sleep. On a jet-black night that'll never dawn---
POLICE STATION IMAGE STORY - THE LONELY SHERRY
Sherry was always alone.
There was no one around, just a big, cold house. Her mom and dad stay in the facility almost every day working on something crazy. As if they'd forgotten about Sherry. So she eats by herself, throwing a generous amount of frozen food into the microwave. Alone, without saying a word. Sherry hated the food, but she kept eating it because she thought it'd bring her mom and dad back.
"But one day the freezer was empty, they didn't come home. Instead, I got a call from Mom, telling me to "get to the police station." I asked her what was going on, but she wouldn't tell me. She was so frustrated and angry that she suddenly burst into tears and screamed... "Hurry up and get out of the house!"
Sometimes Sherry talks to herself in her mind, to her true self. If she didn't, she'd be even more alone. She was alone at school. When she moved to Raccoon she was far away from her old friends. Sherry wasn't very good at making new friends, and while most of the parents of the kids at Raccoon's school worked for Umbrella or one of the companies they did business with, they were always afraid of and disliked her mom and dad, who were supposed to be great researchers. It seemed as if everyone at school was avoiding her.
"So I went to the police station by myself. I waited forever for the bus to come but it didn't, so I walked... it wasn't so far away. But the town was different... There weren't any crowds, and sometimes I could hear distressed voices coming from inside the stores... Eventually when it got darker, creepy people came out onto the streets, groaning all the time. I'd seen them on TV. They were called Zombies, scary monsters that eat people. I ran to the police station, hiding to avoid being seen by them."
Sherry had always been very good at running away. Or perhaps it might be more accurate to say running away was all she could do. She was lonely, but more than that, she was timid. When she talked to her mom and dad on the rare occasions they came home, they just exchanged opinions about their research and didn't seem to pay Sherry any attention. So she wasn't remotely spoiled. If she was going to be rejected, it was better to act as if she wasn't there from the start, so she wouldn't get hurt. She also stopped trying to get actively involved with others. It's easier to just run away. She doesn't want to find out no one cares about her. The other Sherry, the cowardly one, always closes the door to her heart from the inside.
"The police station was full of Zombies too. There were some Zombies dressed in policemen clothes, and I was really scared... But there were a few places here and there where big adults couldn't get through, so I could run around and avoid being caught. I was good at running away and hiding."
She really wanted to be spoiled. She wanted to be as selfish as a child her age would be. She wanted them to hug her and tell her "We love you." Sherry wanted to know for sure someone was aware of her. But she just didn't have the courage to do so.
"Mom wasn't there... but I felt like I could hear my Dad's voice coming from somewhere. So I stopped hiding and looked for Dad. Then I saw a giant eye looking at me from the darkness. I got scared and ran away again... I heard a woman's voice, but it wasn't my Mom's voice--- it could've been a Zombie, right?"
That was a lie. The truth is, she was more afraid of interacting with people than she was of the one-eyed monster. She was afraid of opening her heart and being rejected. "Yes, Sherry - I know." I know that it's the other Sherry, the cowardly Sherry in my heart, who has been acting all grown up and pretending to be fine on her own even at times like this.
"Ah. Someone's coming again. They're chasing me. I have to run away. I'm scared. I have to get away! Ah, ah... "
"Wait! Calm down. I'm not a Zombie."
Grabbing my arm, the woman's hand was warm. Her eyes looked at me gently. She must notice me. Noticed tiny Sherry.
"You're okay now."
The woman hugged me. I cried. I mustered up the courage---
BASEMENT IMAGE STORY - A DEMON ROARS
---It looked like one of the dead people loitering around, for it seemed to be alone. Dressed in bloody clothes with no expression on a pale, bloodless face, slowly walking the underground passages dragging one step at a time, here in the Raccoon Police Department you could only see the bodies of Zombies.
But this was different---
Instead of the white eyes of the living dead, they were lit up with a red glow reminiscent of fresh blood. His right arm had an oddly deformed shape, unbalanced from the left, with dark red muscle tissue exposed as if he'd been stripped of all his body's skin. The footsteps shredding the wet concrete floor were also unusual with a normal physique in mind. A heavy sound reverberated with every step, like those of a nearly 300kg giant of a man. As if this corpse was filled with something very dense.
Listening to the footsteps, a single monster appeared from around the corner.
It was a mutant born through all human tissues melting away, even the bones. Its brain was exposed, its long tongue wiggled as if it were another creature, its eyes had degenerated without a trace and it sticks to the ceiling like an amphibian, approaching prey as it wriggles its whole body. The dangerous monster was nicknamed "Licker" by a police officer, a Zombie with unparalleled swordsmanship.
Lickers lack visual organs and will instead hunt solely with the aid of their developed hearing. Thus it judged the dead person to be a weak Zombie that was merely filled up on flesh. It couldn't detect any apparent incongruity.
The Licker left the ceiling and dropped down over the dead person's head. With a tongue that hardens instantly and turns into a weapon, becoming a spear in a single stroke, he tries to defeat it with a single blow and crushes its brain along with its head. A wet sound of mucus-covered flesh being struck blared out. What could be heard in the midst of the short silence was once again those heavy, dragging footsteps. It slowly moved away.
What remained was the ruined corpse of a Licker, smashed up to such an extent it no longer retained its original form.
"Outta gas eh... Shit! My luck's running out!"
Flinging his favorite lighter against the wall, Ben Bertolucci crushed the unlit cigarette filter and flicked it away.
He plopped himself down on the bed, got up again quickly and paced around the frustrating and cramped cell. He felt like the firm iron bars that should be protecting him were awfully unreliable now.
So far he's crossed many perilous bridges.
He's been exposed to pressure and experienced the dangers in life, and not just once or twice. That's how Ben gets his scoops. He was confident in his luck to come through the other side of any predicament.
---If you were told to cough up ten freelance journalists in the United States, any savvy guy would name Ben Bertolucci for a certainty. It doesn't feel like that's helping me this time. What've those Umbrella bastards done? If I can survive, a Pulitzer Prize wouldn't be outside of the realm of possibility!
Kicking the iron bars, Ben thought of the two people who went to find an escape route. A young cop who looks like a rookie officer and a mysterious woman looking for an Umbrella researcher--- The woman was no ordinary person, but it would be difficult for them to get out of Raccoon. However, languishing in prison and awaiting starvation would make for a terrible story. In the end, he had to believe and wait for their return.
At that moment, Ben's ears caught the sound of a cell opening. Then there were signs someone was approaching the cell he was in.
Ben was stunned by the bizarrely slow and heavy footsteps. Unintentionally, he asked with a trembling voice.
"Ah... That you, cop?"
There was no response. Instead it seemed like the footsteps were picking up the pace a little.
Ben shook the iron bars and confirmed they were secured. The Zombies can't break this cell.
As expected, a dead person entered his line of sight. With the left half facing Ben, the creature appeared behind the iron bars. There was no particular problem. As long as he can put up with the smell, the cop will get rid of it when he returns. Ben smiled, trying to stay calm---
The Zombie turned to face Ben. At that moment he noticed on the bizarre right arm, the shoulder was split open and a huge eyeball was peeking out of it and staring at Ben. It was no Zombie.
The barred door gave way as soon as the monster grabbed it with its right hand. Its tremendous grip shattered the entire lock structure.
Ben's screams shook the air. A tubular thing leapt out from the tip of its right hand, opening and invading Ben's mouth. Something passed through his respiratory tract. A sharp pain in his lungs---
Ben saw the monster's giant eye thinning, until his consciousness left him.
Ben's fate had been decided. Perhaps it had been from the moment he stepped into Raccoon...
SEWER IMAGE STORY - THE SWAYING ADA
Leon and Ada had just gotten off a small lift.
They unexpectedly saw a figure near the connecting passage. Their white coat swayed, and their brownish-blonde hair reflected the light of the dim work lamp.
---A Zombie!?
Before Leon could even ready his shotgun, the person was off running like a rabbit. From the slender back running away, Leon realized it was a woman, and that she was also a survivor who hadn't been turned into a Zombie by the T-Virus.
Without the slightest hesitation, Ada followed the woman as she turned a corner and disappeared from sight. It was an astonishingly decisive and dynamic action that caught the attention of Leon, who'd received a full range of training at the police academy. It was almost like a reflex, as if she was used to such situations on a daily basis.
But Leon was observant. Just before the woman in a white coat turned the corner, he saw a dull shiny pistol in her hand.
She must have seen we're certainly not Zombies, even if it was only for a moment. And yet she ran away because we looked like hostiles to her... if that's the case!
"Wait! Ada!"
Ada had jumped out at the end of the T-junction faster than Leon could stop her. A moment later she turned the corner and there were two echoing muffled gunshots.
"Look out!"
Leon jumped toward Ada the moment a third shot rang out.
Unlike the two missed shots, this bullet came directly toward Ada. If it had landed, she would've been fatally wounded through her heart or lungs.
Fortunately, this wasn't the case. Because at this moment it was Leon who was in the line of fire instead, having pushed Ada away.
Two more shots were fired into the wall at the end of the empty space, and the sound of the footsteps of the woman in a white coat running away echoed. Ada sat up and looked at the young policeman who'd fallen to protect her. Fresh crimson blood oozed from the left breast of his uniform, as if a rose had bloomed. Leon doesn't even wince.
"Leon!?"
Ada's expression hardened, she quickly examined the wound and let out a faint sigh of relief. The bullet missed vital points and penetrated between the left clavicle and the shoulder blade. There was no sign of bone shattering, and Leon was only passed out from the pain and shock of the shot.
How foolish to help me... What were you...
"That woman... she'll pay!"
Ada looked at Leon's wounded, fallen face for a very brief time. When she stood and looked up, her face revealed the anger of a panther in the face of a foreign enemy, not the usual coldness she usually gave off. Shedding her mask of beauty and restraint, she began to pursue the woman in white like a predator in pursuit of its prey.
She kicked open the door at the end of the corridor and jumped into the sewage system where filthy water flowed. She could see the hem of a white coat being pulled up a ladder into the large ventilation shaft. Kicking up the murky water and running, Ada clutched the ladder and chased after the woman.
As she ran through the vent, Ada asked herself why she was feeling so hot. Was it for Leon, who'd fallen wounded in her place?
She unconsciously shook her head lightly, not wanting to admit she'd lost control and was now rushing into a rage.
That woman must be an Umbrella researcher. If so, she must have information on John, if I was doing it for the sake of helping or out of a sense of justice, I...
Even as she chanted this in her mind, Ada couldn't control her swelling emotions, she didn't know and felt nothing for that fool Leon. The dazzling, straightforward Leon...
Ada senses the cold, hard feel of the handgun she holds as if to hold back shaking. This ritual calms her buzzing heart instantly.
She slid down the ladder and landed instantly on the floor of what looked like the control room of the water treatment plant. It was clearly the gesture of a specially trained person.
But as Ada started to run again, a shot echoed across the floor and her Browning HP was flung from her hand, making a heavy metallic sound on the floor too far away for her to jump immediately.
"Don't move!"
A sharp voice echoed. From a dimly lit corner of the floor, the woman in white approached with her gun at the ready. The gun's muzzle flashed a dull light at Ada.
VACANT FACTORY IMAGE STORY - THE TYRANT ASSAULTS
"What the hell kind of company is Umbrella?"
Claire groaned involuntarily. It was the moment she saw the scene unfolding from the garage of an abandoned, decaying factory.
A myriad of factories that had been built in a desolate wasteland on the outskirts of Raccoon - these abandoned structures were bathed in the light of the full moon in the sky, floating blue as if wet in the darkness of the night. It seemed to Claire as if she was gazing at the protruding stomach wall of an incredibly huge creature. But it wasn't this that astonished her.
Right in front of her, a tremendously large vertical hole opened its maw completely. It was an octagonal shaft leading underground, about twenty meters across. Since the track leading from the garage was cut off, it must've been a large lift disguised as a turntable. Perhaps Leon, who was ahead of her, had moved this contraption and infiltrated the secret research facility hidden beneath the earth.
Claire felt mildly dizzy as she peered down the shaft. It was terribly deep. An abyss of darkness, beyond the reach of the moonlight, lay below her eyes bathed in black. It was as if a bottomless pit leading to the underworld was waiting for her there--- no, it was true. Umbrella was digging up a hellish scourge there, bio-viruses.
The sheer size of the Umbrella Corporation, which she glimpsed through this ridiculous secret facility, severely dampened Claire's spirits, which were rarely weak. No matter how hard she tried on a personal level, the situation might've already progressed to a point where it was beyond her control--- her suspicions made it impossible to deny.
Feeling helpless, Claire shook her head and chided herself for her weakness.
Her brother, Chris, flew to Europe with his comrades who'd survived the Mansion Incident, having shattered the plans of this monstrous market-leading company. He was isolated in the Raccoon Police Department, but he never gave up--- so how could she give up on her brother after coming into this town to find him?
Besides, there was another life Claire needed to protect. A lovable girl named Sherry who has opened her heart to her and is willing to survive this long night with her. In order to save that young life, Claire couldn't just drop out of the fight.
"Besides, Leon hasn't given up either. I can't let him down."
Pushing the negative thoughts away, she bypassed the scaffolding in the shaft and entered the inspection area, looking for a way to call the lift.
The space, lined with many thick pillars that supported the vertical hole, was filled with a strange powerful sound that shook the eardrums, probably because it was packed with equipment to supply air to the laboratory. Fortunately, she could only hear her own footsteps running on the wire mesh scaffolding. With a slight uneasiness over not being able to detect the approach of an enemy with her hearing, Claire hurried to the end of the road, looking back and forth in a rush.
There was a row of surveillance monitors for checking each inspection area. Claire found what appeared to be a key on a nearby console and placed it into her pocket. She remembered there was a similar-looking control panel in the panel room where Sherry was waiting.
Suddenly, she felt something move on one of the live monitors and peered at it. It showed the passage behind her she'd just run through.
Claire gasped.
From within the screen, inorganic eyes devoid of any emotion were staring at her.
It was a tall man dressed in a moss green military coat. Its rugged face barely changed in expression, like a mask carved from white stone that made it hard to believe it was alive. For Claire, it was a man she was already familiar with.
The mysterious tracker who has been persistently following Claire's footsteps ever since he was dropped into the Raccoon police station by a helicopter of unknown affiliation. She knows this man can't be human.
No matter how many bullets he takes, this monster won't die. As she fought off several attacks, Claire was becoming more and more convinced her opponent was a bioweapon with incredible resilience. Perhaps a perfect soldier created by administering the T-Virus that Umbrella had been working on--- it had now been sent into Raccoon to recover the G-Virus.
The monster on the monitor raised both fists in the air. At the next moment, the surveillance camera, busily moving its lens back and forth to focus, was shattered into pieces and the image abruptly cut off.
The exit was behind the monster. There's no escape.
However, at this time, Claire's face wasn't one of bewilderment. Rather, what springs to mind was an expression that could be called a fierce smile.
It's a good thing who I'm supposed to be fighting is right in front of me in a clear-cut form... isn't it? Now, I'm gonna crush you, Umbrella!
She loads the grenade launcher with sulfuric acid and takes aim. There no longer remained the face of a 19-year-old girl frightened by the shadow of a giant corporation. The eyes of a female warrior, determined to survive, shone with a sharp light, filled only with hope.
LABORATORY IMAGE STORY - THE GOD KILLER
A log-like blow grazed his left shoulder, turning Leon's vision white with a pain that threatened to knock him out. The gunshot wound from Annette Birkin had reopened with the impact.
In that instant of unconsciousness, he was struck with a relentless follow-up blow. His body was lifted into the air and flung several meters to the side.
While shielding his torso, his right elbow dug into his ribs, and this new pain woke Leon up. He grabbed the Desert Eagle he almost lost nearby. The weight of this large pistol, now replaced with a 10-inch barrel and weighing two kilos, is difficult to carry and if he incurred a fracture due to his injuries, he wouldn't be able to support it.
Leon's nerves were unusually sharp, probably due to the large amount of medicinal plants he'd ingested to suppress bleeding and pain. After confirming he could still fight while his body was still in the air, he landed on the ground, killing his momentum so he wouldn't tip over.
Then he glared at "Death" itself, now embodied in a bizarre new form. The individual in his line of sight was "G." The new virus transformed itself into a biological weapon and twisted the fate of death--- but it has left no trace of what the person was like before.
The body, which has undergone repeated deformations, has already reached a height of about three meters. What were once human arms had grown into abnormally enlarged monster arms, and third and fourth auxiliary arms had sprouted from its sides and were now fully functional. The human head was now buried within the reproducing G-Cells, and instead, a head like a deep-sea fish had arisen from the spine and let out a dry roar toward Leon that could've been either a curse, or joy at the prospect of prey.
The situation was desperate. However, Leon robotically pointed the Desert Eagle's muzzle.
---Ada.
There was no doubt he was wounded all over. While escaping from the Raccoon Police Department, Leon had put his flesh through unbelievable strains. Several of his ribs were broken and his left shoulder blade was definitely cracked from taking a bullet so close to it.
His body was covered in cuts and bruises and would normally require absolute rest. His whole body was exhausted and screaming that if he pushed himself any harder, he'd fall apart.
And Leon's mind was so exhausted the state of this body was beyond comparison. You could say it was eating away at him. It was as if a part of his mind had been gouged out and turned into a gaping hollow.
He was convinced he won't ever be in a more painful situation than at this point in his life. The waking part of Leon's mind kept asking, calmly, why he hadn't given up in the midst of the pain tearing through his body. Wouldn't it be easier to just stop resisting and let that monster take his life? The pain would be momentary. Besides, even if he could survive, everything he cared about was lost forever.
---Ada. Why?
However, every time he was tempted to give up and fall down, the image of Ada flashed back to mind. Leon's hollow heart, filled with her, cruelly urged him on. Survive, he thought.
Aiming at the roaring beast, Leon slumped his hips against the recoil and pulled the trigger.
With a gunshot that sounded like an explosion, a tremendous impact ran through both his arms. The recoil of the Desert Eagle, one of the largest handguns in the world with a caliber of fifty and customized to be even longer, was so strong it could dislocate his shoulder and shatter his wrist. Wounds all over his body opened anew and intense stimulating pain shot through Leon's nerves. It was an absolute amount of pain that could've driven him insane.
Even still, Leon didn't stop shooting. He clenched his teeth so hard they could shatter, twisted the recoil with his numb arms, and dared to fire a second shot, dragging the pain with him. As if he was trying to cover up the pain in his heart with the pain in his flesh.
Leon's hatred for the G-Virus, the demonic germ weapon that had ruined Ada's life, and the lives of so many others, was the only thing keeping him alive. He had to survive. He had to survive so that Umbrella, the market-leading corporation that despises human life, would pay the price for it. And for the sake of the woman he loved, who wanted him to survive.
The Action Express bullets loaded into the Desert Eagle aren't designed for penetration. The warhead's a hollow-point type not covered with hard metal, and its velocity's relatively slow. The large-caliber lead warhead bursts as soon as it lands, spreading its tremendous energy and tearing the target's insides to shreds. The impact alone's enough to kill a man, even in a bulletproof vest.
At the cost of Leon's pain, he shot into the giant body of "G" in rapid succession. The soft lead scattered inside its body, shattering its internal organs and bones until the monster stopped. Its body was damaged to the point it couldn't sustain life as it was, even for a bioweapon boasting incredible strength.
Immediately after Leon endured intense pain to fire a fourth shot, "G" collapsed on the spot with a scream.
However, in the next moment, the body of "G" began transforming further in order to cope with its formidable foe. Before Leon's eyes, even its skeleton was instantly reassembled, a rapid evolution that could be called hubris, which could one day surpass even God.
"Ada... Are you watching?"
Leon mumbled as he adjusted the sights with blurry eyes, probably due to blood loss. Ahead a six-legged beast with innumerable exposed teeth screamed with blood-thirst.
"I'm gonna beat it... I will survive. I promise!"
With this oath, the Desert Eagle breathed fire again. The smoke signaled the beginning of a battle with an evil god.
CITY AREA IMAGE STORY - GUN SHOP TRAGEDY

SCENARIO ANALYSIS
4 Scenarios Comparison Study (p.175-183)
OPENING
Leon S. Kennedy, a young police officer ordered for assignment to the Raccoon Police Department, was driving his jeep down a sunny highway. He was a little late for the first day of his new job, but was disturbed by the fact he couldn't reach the Raccoon Police Department by radio. Leon rushed his way to Raccoon City. He didn't know he was entering a nightmare.
Around the same time, Claire Redfield was concerned about the safety of her unreachable brother Chris over the past few weeks and rode her motorcycle to Raccoon City alone. Her destination was also the Raccoon Police Department, which is where the special mission unit her brother belongs to, S.T.A.R.S., is based.
However, Claire's attacked by human flesh-eating Zombies at a donut shop on the way to the station. Leon appeared at the back door of the donut shop, having also been attacked by a crowd of the dead, and rescued her while being chased. With the Zombies rushing in, they could no longer return to his car and so the two take a patrol car that had been left unattended and head for the police station. However, the car crashed when a Zombie attacked them from the back seat. A Zombie tanker truck driver crashes into the car and the street erupts into flames. Leon and Claire get out of the car but are separated by the burning fire, but the two continue on to the police station.
Story A (Leon front + Claire back)
After a tragedy in Kendo Gun Shop, Leon arrives at the front entrance of the Raccoon Police Department where he sees Marvin, a seriously wounded police officer. Leon asks Marvin about the tragedy in Raccoon City and is requested to search for survivors in the station. However Leon's stunned by a surprise attack of a grotesque monster, the Licker, which reminds him of a newt. Are there any survivors wandering in the building where Zombies are roaming around? It was no safer a place than Raccoon's town.
Meanwhile, Claire, who has entered from the back of the police station, witnesses the moment a Raccoon police officer's helicopter crashes on the rooftop. A mysterious object (Tyrant) is dropped from a helicopter of unknown affiliation when Claire came to extinguish the fire, and she encountered the humanoid B.O.W. with a strong body and astounding mobility.
After escaping from the Tyrant, she found her target, the S.T.A.R.S. office, and after searching inside she was reunited with Leon. However, after all this, it turns out Chris had already left town. From his diary, the two learn about Umbrella's conspiracy and the existence of a new bioweapon virus called the G-Virus. Leon and Claire pledge to escape from Raccoon, and each take a radio device.
Claire finds a girl running away from Zombies and follows her, but she uses her small body to disappear into a vent. Claire, suspicious of what's on the other side of the half-smashed door by the crashed helicopter, uses a confiscated plastic explosive device to blow up the door and discovers a passage to the Chief's office. Here Claire finally meets the little girl named Sherry, but she's frightened by a mysterious roar within the police station and runs away from her again.
Shortly before this, Leon, who continues to survive, returns to rescue Marvin, however having been infected with the T-Virus through secondary infection, he witnesses Marvin lose his reasoning and turn into a Zombie. Leon meets a mysterious woman claiming to be Ada Wong, while giving eternal rest to the poor victims of the virus and exploring the underground for an escape route.
Ada doesn't seem to show any fear or anxiety under these extreme conditions. Based on her information, Leon moves a van that's blocking a door in the underground parking lot and finds Ben, a freelance journalist hidden behind it in a cell. Ben hints at the existence of a monster that Leon's never seen up to now.
Story B (Claire front + Leon back)
After a tragedy in Kendo Gun Shop, Claire arrives at the front entrance of the Raccoon Police Department, where she sees Marvin, a seriously wounded police officer. She asks Marvin about the tragedy in Raccoon City and the disappearance of the S.T.A.R.S. members, including her brother Chris, and he asks her to search for survivors in the station. Claire's stunned by the surprise attack of a grotesque monster, the Licker, which reminds her of a newt. Could there be any survivors wandering a building where Zombies are roaming around? It was no safer than Raccoon's town.
Meanwhile, Leon, who's entered from the back of the police station, witnesses the moment a Raccoon police officer's helicopter crashes on the rooftop. A mysterious object (Tyrant) is dropped from a helicopter of unknown affiliation when Leon comes to extinguish the fire, and he encounters a humanoid B.O.W. with a strong body and astounding mobility.
After escaping from the Tyrant, he finds his target, the S.T.A.R.S. office. However, Leon learns of Umbrella's conspiracy and the existence of a new type of bioweapon virus called the G-Virus from Chris's diary, left behind by the survivor.
Claire arrives in the office and Leon confirms to her Chris is no longer in Raccoon City. Immediately afterwards, Claire finds a girl running away from Zombies and follows her, but loses sight of her. Leon also sees her, but the scared girl takes advantage of her small body and escapes through a hole beside a shut door.
Leon and Claire are separated again but each has a radio to stay in contact. Leon seeks an escape route and Claire looks for the girl.
Claire returns to Marvin after seeking a means of escape and discovers he's secondarily infected with the T-Virus from his wound, and Marvin loses all reason and becomes a Zombie. Claire's suspicious of the other side of the door half-smashed by the crashed helicopter. She returns to the second floor and blasts the door using a confiscated plastic explosive to find the passage to the Chief's office.
Around the same time, Leon had reached the basement for an escape route and meets a mysterious woman named Ada Wong there. Ada feels no fear or anxiety under the extreme circumstances. Based on her information, Leon moves a van sealing a door of the underground parking lot and discovers Ben, a freelance journalist hidden behind it in a cell. However, Ben hints at the fear of a monster Leon has yet to encounter.
Story A (Leon front + Claire back)
He admits to his fear and locks himself in the prison. From time to time, mysterious roars echo from the distance and Leon realizes Ben's story was no lie.
Leon headed for the kennel manhole, then to the sewage treatment plant, and with Ada's help, got the last key to the police station. After searching the station, he finds four plugs that open the entrance to the sewage treatment plant. However, at this time, Ben is attacked by a monster in his jail cell, and in front of Leon who rushed to help him, he died after his body was torn apart from the inside by the monster's spawning parasite. Ada, who also came back to the cell, said she was looking for an Umbrella researcher and disappeared, leaving Leon behind. Feeling annoyed by her attitude, Leon contacts Claire and tells her he'll escape from the sewer to the outside.
Claire was once again at a loss when she received the message and was separated due to Sherry's outlandish behavior. The girl claimed her father was looking for her and ran away from Claire through a gap between a fence to the sewage treatment plant. Inevitably she finished searching through the station and despite the repeated attacks by the Tyrant, she finally succeeded in opening the secret passage in the Chief's office.
Keeping Sherry with her this time, Claire takes an elevator that continues to the bottom. What she saw there was the horrifying true identity of Chief Irons. Having received a large amount of money from Umbrella that deepened his pockets, he'd been experimenting with taxidermy in this insane basement and truly enjoyed it, perhaps even on humans. Irons advances toward Claire, who knows his secret. However, he was suddenly dragged further into the basement and literally split in two, leading to a tragic death.
What killed Irons was a Zombie-like creature with an enlarged right arm. However, it transforms in front of Claire's eyes and attacks with a huge eyeball on its upper arm. She didn't know, but this monster was the source of the same parasite that tore out of Ben. She repels the monster and escapes the police station with Sherry through the basement. Feeling the pressure of the Tyrant persistently behind her.
At that time, Leon was also confronting a strange monster that stood in his way. The one that had escaped from Ben's body, Leon dispatches of it and opens the sewage treatment plant's gate, despite struggling with this giant grotesque parasite.
Leon joins Ada and walks to the sewer, but he protects Ada from a gunshot fired by a woman in a white coat, and he suffers a shallow wound and collapses. Ada reveals her anger and runs after the woman.
Claire arrives at this sewer a little later and discovers Leon injured. Water had been drained from the sewer and she was in the process of exploring it. As asked by Leon, who'd recovered consciousness, Claire follows Ada for the time being.
At that time, Ada confronts the woman Annette Birkin and hears about the consequences of the disaster in Raccoon City. The true identity of the virus-produced monster "G."
Story B (Claire front + Leon back)
He was rushing. From time to time, mysterious roars echoed from a distance, and Leon realized Ben's story was no lie.
Meanwhile, Claire finally meets the girl named Sherry in the back of the Chief's office. However, Sherry is frightened by the mysterious roaring inside the police station and runs away from her again. Claire catches up to the girl again in the basement, but Sherry claims her father's looking for her and escapes into a narrow ventilation hole in the sewage treatment plant and disappears from Claire.
Ada was also infiltrating the sewage treatment plant in search of clues to escape. However, Sherry, who doesn't know who she is, is shocked and drops her pendant as she runs away.
Claire reluctantly resumes searching inside the station with a key thrown to her by Sherry, and finally succeeds in opening the hidden passage in the Chief's office. Claire hugs Sherry on the spot and rides an elevator that continues to the bottom of the floor. What she witnesses there was the horrifying true identity of Chief Irons. Having received a large amount of money from Umbrella and deepened his pockets, he was making taxidermy himself, perhaps even on humans, in this insane basement.
Irons heads toward Claire, who knows his secret. But by this time he'd already been implanted with a parasite by a monster. Suddenly Chief Irons begins suffering and the parasite emerges, becoming a giant monster in the blink of an eye and attacking Claire.
Shortly before this, Leon found four plugs that opened the sewage treatment plant's gate, evading repeated assaults by the Tyrant. However, at this time, Ben was attacked by a monster in the prison cells, and after Leon rushed to the site, he entrusted him with a document exposing the Chief's injustice, then died. Ada, who also returned to the jail cells, said she was searching for an Umbrella researcher and disappeared from Leon. Subsequently, Leon rushed to the sewage treatment plant gate while being informed that Claire, who'd defeated the parasite, will escape from the station.
Awaiting him there was a Zombie-like creature with an enlarged right arm. However, it transformed in front of Leon's eyes and attacked with a giant eyeball on its upper arm. He didn't know it, but this was the monster that attacked Ben and implanted a parasite into Chief Irons. Despite struggling with the monster swinging around an iron pipe, Leon repelled it, opened the gate, joined Ada and proceeded to sewer.
At that time, Claire was trying to escape from the basement of the Chief's office and witnessed the monster escaping from its battle with Leon. Another large roar frightens Sherry and she flees into the sewer— but shortly afterwards, Sherry's washed down the sewer and separated from Claire.
Claire went to the back of the facility in search of Sherry, where she found the girl's mother.
Story A (Leon front + Claire back)
A large-scale biohazard occurred throughout the city of Raccoon... After finishing talking, Annette tries to shoot Ada, but when she gets hit, during the quarrel she falls from the passage into the treatment pool.
Immediately afterwards, Claire chases Ada and encounters Annette, who slowly crawls out from the water. Annette was shocked when she was told her beloved daughter Sherry was in the sewer, and uttered the girl had the G-Virus.
Around the same time, Leon managed to recover enough so he was able to move, and began following in Ada's footsteps. Leon discovers her being attacked by a huge alligator in the garbage collection site and decides to save her, and upon battling the monster, he blows it up. Saving Ada, the two share a quiet moment for sometime.
Leon and Ada rush to Umbrella's research facility after finishing first aid. On the way to an abandoned facility on a tram system built underground, the two are suddenly attacked by an unidentified monster. A huge claw pierces the ceiling of the tram like a piece of paper--- it looks as if the monster escapes when Ada starts firing. However, while they continue descending from the yard of an abandoned factory with a tram disguised as a turntable, Ada would be slashed deeply by the claws that attack them again.
It was Leon's first encounter with the original "G" Claire already repelled in the basement of the police station. It looked like he'd defeated it after a deadly fight, but when he brought an unconscious Ada into the lab security room, its dead corpse on the turntable had suddenly disappeared.
Meanwhile, Claire, with Sherry, also arrived at the abandoned factory yard. Claire tries to bring back the lowered turntable, but the Tyrant returns again. "G" attacks the girls as they descend from the lift, having shaken off and recovered from its previous battle. Perhaps overloaded due to repeated battles, the tram overheats, suddenly stops, and won't descend.
Leaving Sherry inside the electric locomotive, Claire enters the laboratory through a vent. At that point, the lift ironically regains power and begins to descend again with Sherry on it. Claire follows the main elevator, but she couldn't see Sherry in the lift. Claire tries hard to find the girl in the lab and meets Annette again in the monitor room. In the meantime, a surveillance monitor was showing the figure of the Tyrant approaching Sherry to take the G-Virus from her. Following Annette rushing out, Claire sprints into the power room.
However, Annette encounters Leon, who was searching the facility to heal a severely injured Ada..
At this moment, the Tyrant was about to attack Sherry in the power room.
Story B (Claire front + Leon back)
She met Annette Birkin, an Umbrella researcher, and asked her about the consequences of the disaster in Raccoon City. The true nature of the virus-produced monster "G", and the large-scale biohazard that occurred throughout the city of Raccoon... And Annette says to her with a desperate plea. "G" is after Sherry and intends to breed by implanting an embryo in her body. Suddenly, Sherry's screams echo inside the facility, and they go looking for the girl's whereabouts.
However, Annette confronts Leon and Ada. Paranoid by suspicions that everyone's aiming for the G-Virus, Annette shoots at Ada and escapes, and Leon protects her but suffers a shallow wound and is left unconscious. Ada's angry and begins chasing Annette.
Despite catching Annette, Ada's handgun is hit and she's in a predicament. However, Annette's upset when she notices Ada's wearing her daughter's pendant, and she fall into the treatment pool after being struck by Ada. A suspicious Ada examines the pendant and finds that a double pin mechanism's hidden inside.
At that time, Claire defeats an attacking giant alligator and discovers Sherry at the garbage collection site. However, a terrifying embryo was already planted inside the girl's body by "G." If she doesn't treat her before it's too late, Sherry will transform into a "G." While encouraging the girl as she complains of abdominal pain, Claire motivates herself to head for the facility. She believes there's a way to save the girl's fate.
On the other hand, Leon manages to recover enough to move and begins following Ada's footsteps. Although she finds her in a safe place at the garbage collection site, Leon falls on the spot again due to the damage of the wound from being shot by Annette. Ada treats the man who risked his life to protect her. For a moment, a quiet time follows between the two.
Leon and Ada rush out to Umbrella's research facility after finishing first aid. On the way to the abandoned facility aboard the tramway built underground, the two were suddenly attacked by "G." A huge claw pierces the ceiling of the tram like a piece of paper— Ada begins to open fire and "G" on the roof quits for the moment.
Claire, who's a little ahead of the two, has already reached the abandoned facility. However, while descending from the yard with a tram disguised as a turntable, Sherry's condition deteriorates and she falls unconscious. Claire jumps out of the electric locomotive after sensing the presence of an attacker.
It was "G" Leon and his friend had chased away from the tram and it had caught up with its tremendous athletic abilities. It was "G" who seemed to have been defeated in a battle to the death, but when she brought an unconscious Sherry into the lab security room, its corpse on the turntable suddenly disappeared...
Shortly after this, Leon and his friends also arrived at the abandoned factory yard.
Story A (Leon front + Claire back)
The blow of a single fist destroys the main shaft, causing a violent quake throughout the laboratory.
For a moment, Annette was about to shoot Leon, but an iron pipe fell from the quake and deals her a fatal blow to the back. Leon starts running again, picking up the G-Virus capsule that fell from Annette's hand.
In the power room, Claire rushed to face the Tyrant. Claire attracts the monster to the G-Virus she received from Sherry. The Tyrant chases the G-Virus she threw, loses its balance, and falls into the molten iron pool below. At the same time, the explosive device in the lab starts operating due to the main shaft being destroyed. Claire quickly heads for B4F.
At that time, there's a tense exchange between Leon and Ada on the B4F main shaft. When Ada's thoughts appear to conquer his destiny, a bullet from behind then tears them apart. Annette, using the last of her energy, fired a shot with crazy obsession.
Leon begins to weep at the cruel ending. With a deep sorrow, he heads for the platform.
Claire arrived at the bridge at the moment the fatally wounded Annette was making a permanent farewell to Sherry. Claire encourages Sherry, crying at her deceased mother's side, and heads for a platform from the main elevator. Escaping from Raccoon City's just around the corner, but what awaits there is the Super Tyrant, which was transformed into a perfect combat form while its whole body was covered in flames.
Leon was also forced to engage "G" in front of the lift to the platform. For the moment, it's stopped moving, and for the moment, it's a horrifying ultimate creature that evolves further into a form closer to a beast. Even during the battle for survival, the countdown to the explosion mercilessly progresses.
What will be the fate of Leon, Claire and Sherry?
Story B (Claire front + Leon back)
Leon tries to bring back the tram, but the Tyrant's there again. "G" has recovered from the attacks in previous battles and stops them from descending the lift. Although they succeed, Ada took a deep wound, and the overheated lift immediately stopped while descending, probably due to being overloaded by repeated battles.
Leaving Ada on the electric locomotive, Leon enters the laboratory through a vent to get medical supplies. At that point, the lift ironically regains power and begins to descend again with Ada on it. Leon followed the main elevator, but Ada wasn't there on the arrived lift.
Leon searches the lab for her and encounters Annette on the way to the power room. Annette tries to protect her husband's heritage, the G-Virus, and having been driven mad, she points her gun at Leon. However, behind Leon's the true virus-seeker, the Tyrant, and she rushes away from the scene.
Annette escapes to the front of the P-4 level lab where she again meets Claire, who's struggling to save Sherry. However, thinking "G" had been killed, she forgot about that in her hatred and prepared to shoot a bullet at Claire.
Around that time, in the power room, Leon was caught up with Tyrant and in a state of desperation. Ada appears there and boldly shoots it to save Leon. The Tyrant's struck with a bullet to the face and loses its balance, then falls into the molten iron pool below. However, it also throws Ada at the main shaft. Due to this impact, the main shaft's destroyed, causing severe shocks throughout the laboratory.
Meanwhile "G" appears in front of Annette while she's with Claire. "G", who's already lost consciousness as a human, slices her and disappears. Annette's done for and she entrusts Claire with saving Sherry, giving her the G-Vaccine Creation Method file. At the same time, the explosive device in the lab starts operating with the main shaft's destruction. After contacting Leon and asking him to protect Sherry, Claire runs to produce the vaccine while the explosion warning sounds.
Leon takes Sherry out of the guard room and heads for the platform with the elevator. Escaping from Raccoon City's imminent---- but what awaits him there was the Super Tyrant, which was transformed into a perfect combat form while its whole body was covered in flames.
Claire, who got the G-Vaccine, was also forced to engage "G" in front of the lift to the platform. For a moment, it stops moving, and then the horrifying ultimate creature evolves further, into a form closer to a beast. Even during the deadly struggle for survival, the countdown to the explosion mercilessly continues.
Will they escape Raccoon City, and what'll be the fate of Sherry and her infection with "G" cells?
Raccoon City Case Files (p.188-191)
MARCH
(Last third) John disappears before Ada goes missing. <Ada's dialogue>
→ In this Mansion Incident, John seems to suggest he'd been transferred from the Umbrella Chicago Branch to the annexed laboratory of the mansion.
APRIL
6 (MON) The secretary who moved a stone statue on the second floor in the station's scolded by the Chief. <Secretary's Diary A>
MAY
10 (SUN) The Chief purchases a painting of a hanged nude woman. <Secretary's Diary A>
→ At this time, it seems the painting the Chief purchased is "Sacrifice of Hell Fire". In addition, there are "NO SMOKING" signs in various places in the station for fear of seeing through the trick shown in this painting.
11 (MON) A biohazard occurs in the mansion on the outskirts of Raccoon City. <Previous game/Keeper's Diary>
→ According to the man who worked as the experiment animal keeper at the mansion, the incident occurred during the early morning hours of the 11th. Mansion personnel were instructed to wear protective suits for preventing infection immediately following the incident. However, the damage kept spreading and it took Umbrella a long time to undertake countermeasures in order to continue hiding the truth for two months or more until July 24th, when S.T.A.R.S. rushed into the mansion.
20 (WED) A woman's body's found on a riverbank in Raccoon City. The body remained after being bitten by wild animals. <Previous game/Scrapbook>
→ The body had no hands or left foot and the bite marks of which were supposedly a wild animal still remained on the cross section. The body was found on the Marble River bank in Raccoon City's Ceder District, but according to the police investigation, it seems to have washed in from a river in the Arklay Mountains.
JUNE
8 (MON) The secretary who was cleaning the Chief's office is yelled at by the Chief. He seems to have touched something important. <Secretary's Diary B>
→ The secretary seems to have touched the painting near the Chief's desk. However, the trick isn't noticed.
8 (MON) John leaves a letter addressed to Ada. The content's about how to remove the security of the mansion. <Previous game/Researcher‘s Will>
→ John, having been infected with the virus, wrote this letter documenting the password of JOHN & ADA. In addition, it's written in this letter that Ada was a researcher at the mansion and, if this is true, the Ada who came to Raccoon City might be someone else.
15 (MON) The secretary learns the Chief's big secret. The secretary's diary breaks off at the end on this day. <Secretary's Diary B>
→ One week has passed since he was scolded by the Chief and the stubborn secretary has noticed the painting's secret too. He switches on the device and sees the stuffed animal processing room in the underground and it seems likely he was "processed" in the room the following day.
16 (TUE) Witness accounts of dog-like monsters occur one after another in the Arklay Mountains on the outskirts of Raccoon City. <Previous game/Scrapbook>
→ A minor local paper called Raccoon Week reported on this subject. Though it's an important event proving Umbrella's biotech experiments, the news story line, "But if you're looking for adventure, check it out! Wanna give it a go?" jokes to stir up curiosity.
28 (SUN) Don Weller, the chemical courier, carries goods to Umbrella's facilities. However, his physical condition seems to be very bad. <Sewer Manager's Diary>
JULY
7 (TUE) The Chief makes frequent visits to the laboratory. His expression's more severe than usual. <Sewer Manager's Diary>
→ On July 6th, the day before, the Chief attended a regular meeting in the laboratory. It seems patrol reports from the Raccoon Police Department on the Mansion Incident were detailed at this gathering, though it's believed Umbrella made many demands of him at the same time. Umbrella, seeking to obtain B.O.W. combat data, pressured the Chief to dispatch S.T.A.R.S., and this is thought to have contributed to the decision that led S.T.A.R.S. to investigate two days later.
9 (THU) Accidents occur frequently in the Arklay Mountains. The mountain road's closed and S.T.A.R.S. investigate. <Previous game/Scrapbook>
21 (TUE) The sewer manager works late at night. <Sewer Manager's Diary>
→ The railway line for transporting primary research materials from the annexed mansion laboratory was heavily used before S.T.A.R.S. intervened. For that reason, it appears Birkin and his wife evacuated with materials by using the sewer system as the transport passage until midnight. Therefore, they moved to Raccoon City's underground from the Arklay Mountains research base on the border on this day, and many contaminants flowed successively into the sewer.
24 (FRI) The helicopter of S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team disappears in the Arklay Mountains. S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team's deployed to investigate. <Previous game/Raccoon evening press>
→ This day, July 24th, became the stage for the previous game. Chris and other S.T.A.R.S. members snuck into the mansion in the Arklay Mountains and discovered many tremendous facts. The time it took for Brad to return by helicopter is in fact estimated to be about half a day, though the officers who wandered between life and death in the mansion would've felt this far too long.
24 (FRI) William passes through the sewer to attend a meeting with the Chicago branch. <Fax to the Sewer Manager>
→ William's scheduled to pass through the sewer to attend meetings on the forth Friday of odd months. Oddly, S.T.A.R.S. simultaneously rushed into the mansion, which seems to suggest the combat data of the B.O.W.'s in the mansion was scheduled to be announced to the Chicago branch on the same day.
AUGUST
(First ten days) William instructs the Chief to monitor S.T.A.R.S. <Mail to the Chief>
8 (SAT) Chris reports on the Mansion Incident to the Chief, but the Chief doesn't take notice. <Chris' Diary>
→ At this point, Chris doesn't consider the Chief to be tied to Umbrella. However, it seems possible the Chief's attitude cast a little doubt over the "Possibility..." from his utterly blunt responses.
11 (TUE) George is scolded by the Chief for neglecting his work in the clock tower. <George's Diary>
16 (SUN) The Chief's expression is grim. He aims his gun at the sewer manager for joking with him and has no room for feelings. <Sewer Manager's Diary>
17 (MON) Strange incidents occur frequently. Witnesses report monster sightings one after another all over town. <Chris' Diary>
→ About one month later, the base for virus development has been moved to the Raccoon City underground laboratory. The influence of discharge from the chemical plant flowing into the sewage seems to be gradually increasing.
(Middle) Chris requests an investigation from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The content of the request being the G-Virus and the Chief's background. <Investigation report to Chris>
→ Chris realized his limitations since the Chief refused to dig into the real facts of the case, and seems to have decided upon asking an outside agency for assistance. He was able to send a successful request using his personal name to a federal organization, which seems to suggest S.T.A.R.S. holds a high position.
(Middle) A bribe of 10,000 dollars is transferred to the Chief by William. <Mail to the Chief>
→ Brian Irons, Chief of the Raccoon Police Department, has been receiving considerable bribes for quite a long time. According to the federal bureau's investigation, the time period's believed to be as many as five years.
(Middle) William orders the Chief not to allow Chris and the others near the chemical plant as the G-Virus nears completion. <Mail to the Chief>
→ In response to this order, the Chief thinks his plan to dis-empower the S.T.A.R.S. members can't be employed smoothly with methods like demotion. This conclusion appears in the placement of weapons in the station on the 23rd and it's possible to see that the combat potential of these weapons and the intelligence aspect were dampened, turning them into a grind-out cavity by also removing equipment from the S.T.A.R.S. office.
21 (FRI) The media and police start to investigate Umbrella. Sanitation work in the sewer is suspended for the purpose of camouflage. <Sewer Manager's Diary>
→ It seems Ben, a freelance journalist, was engaged earnestly in gathering information around this time.
23 (SUN) The placement of weapons is performed in the station. The 4-digit combination key safe is moved from the S.T.A.R.S. office to the east office. <Notice circulated in station>
24 (MON) The trio of Chris, Jill and Barry uncover information on the G-Virus. In addition, they decide to fly to Europe to conduct a detailed investigation. <Chris' Diary>
→ It appears Chris requested a long vacation for the purpose of this trip, following the fact equipment had been moved on the previous day. From this, Chief Irons was under the illusion his plan to dis-empower S.T.A.R.S. was successful and it seems Chris and the others were relieved to have deflected Umbrella's eyes.
SEPTEMBER
5 (SAT) Police officer George gets acquainted with Tomas from the sewage treatment plant. <George's Diary>
9 (WED) George and Tomas work diligently in a chess match. <George's Diary>
(Middle) Umbrella executives send several spies to seize the G-Virus. <Mail to the Chief>
(Middle) Contact from Chris to the Raccoon City Police is abruptly cut off. <Marvin's dialogue>
12 (SAT) Tomas' physical condition is bad and the chess match is cancelled. George isn't feeling well. <George's Diary>
→ Tomas was infected with the virus as of the 5th, but his symptoms have become progressively worse within one week. In addition, it seems George was also infected when he passed through the sewer for a chess game.
15 (TUE) A Code G human administration experiment is performed in the laboratory. <Photo A>
→ The leak of this classified photo supports the existence of spies sent by Umbrella executives.
18 (FRI) In particular, there are no such cases enlivened in the newspaper. <Newspaper on the counter of the gun shop>
→ Only on this day was Raccoon City at peace despite the bizarre incidents happening one after another. Is this the calm before the storm?
20 (SUN) There's a suspicious person in the sewers on the outskirts of Raccoon City. Plastic explosive, an electronic time fuse, Parabellum bullet cartridges, and infrared scope are found at the scene. <Patrol Report>
→ As for this matter, it's believed a deliberate preliminary inspection of the sewers was conducted before Umbrella special forces Alpha Team carried out the laboratory intrusion plan.
23 (WED) Umbrella ruins Raccoon City. <Chief's Diary>
→ The Chief receives this report from Umbrella HQ, rather than from William. In addition, based on the fact Umbrella special forces conducted a preliminary inspection of the sewers on the 20th, it's uncertain whether William was attacked on the 20th or 23rd. Moreover, there's a widespread T-Virus outbreak at the same time which leads to this tragedy in Raccoon City.
24 (THU) The Chief causes a lot confusion inside the station and cuts off escape routes to the outside. <Chief's Diary>
→ The Chief's personality goes berserk amidst the grave situation, expressed with a personal history of sexual assault during his university years.
24 (THU) The police force's response is delayed making it almost impossible for civilians to escape. <Chief's Diary>
24 (THU) An escape plan is devised on the first floor in the police station. <Chief's Diary>
25 (FRI) William's scheduled to pass through the sewer to attend a meeting with the Chicago branch. <Fax to the Sewer Manager>
→ It's expected William would extensively announce the G-Virus at this meeting. Therefore, the G-Virus seizure operation must've been carried out before this date.
26 (SAT) A group of Zombies attack the Raccoon police station. A large number of casualties occur. <Operation Report 1>
26 (SAT) Communications equipment in the station is damaged in battle with zombies. Contact with the outside is cut off. <Operation Report 1>
→ Communications equipment in the station wasn't working, proven by Leon's dialogue in the opening movie, "Great. The radio's out." However, it's believed some means of communication was available in the station based on the FAX from the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the S.T.A.R.S. office, and Leon obtaining a radio.
26 (SAT) By order of the Chief, weapons and ammunition in the station are scattered all over. <Operation Report 1>
→ If the Chief schemed to mass murder, these instructions might've been a scheme by the Chief to disperse all the weapons using terrorism as a fraudulent pretext.
26 (SAT) The officer with the card key for weapons storage is missing in the station. <Operation Report 1>
26 (SAT) The breaker in a specific area in the underground of the police station fails. <Operation Report 1>
26 (SAT) Ed's shot by the Chief and dies. <Chief's Diary>
→ The recording officer in the meeting is a man named Eliot Edward who files a report on the escape operation two days later on the 28th. Therefore Ed's believed to be another officer with the same surname.
27 (SUN) The barricade in the station's west office is broken through by zombies and leaves twelve victims. <Operation Report 1>
→ You can see the destroyed barricade built at this time near the door of the west office.
27 (SUN) Casualties in the station are sheltered in the confiscated materials storehouse. <Operation Report 1>
→ It seems Zombies in the storehouse are the casualties at this time.
27 (SUN) All of a sudden, three people are killed by a Licker that appears in the police station.
28 (MON) At 2:30 a.m., Zombies invade the strategy meeting room. Four people, including David, are killed. <Operation Report 2>
28 (MON) An escape plan's devised using the sewer from the station. The door of the east office leading underground is locked with the heart-key. <Operation Report 2>
→ The location of the heart key in thought to be in the west office in "Operation Report 2", but it's actually in the Chief's office. This is the Chief's master key in order to supervise officers and that of course relies on the fact he passed copies to each department head.
28 (MON) There are four survivors in the station, including Eliot Edward. (excluding the Chief) <Operation Report 2>
→ It's believed one officer died on this day since there are only three survivors confirmed on the following day.
28 (MON) George Scott works night shift. <Blackboard on the first floor of the station>
→ The description confirms the body in the night duty room is George Scott, along with George's Diary. It's difficult to believe a night watchman was selected during the chaos in the police station, so it was decided at the beginning of the month and the person on duty for that month appears to have been selected.
28 (MON) The day of St. Michael festival.
29 (TUE)A welcoming party for Leon is scheduled to be held in the west office. <Memo to Leon>
→ Preparations for the party continued even though the interior of the station had degraded to a difficult situation, and probably not without relations to Michael Festival. Michael Festival must've been a big event for the quiet Raccoon City where tourists rarely visit, since preparations were made more than a week ago.
29 (TUE) Leon's assigned to the Raccoon City Police. <Opening>
→ Late for his first day on the job, the great rookie cop arrives in all his glory. The joke that the S of Leon "Scott" Kennedy's S for "SWAT" may actually be believable from his calm demeanor, which seems to be due to his expert experience and skilled handling of small firearms.
29 (TUE) Claire arrives in Raccoon City. <Opening>
→ Claire arrived in Raccoon City on a large motorcycle ride. If she'd stopped at the service station on the outskirts of the city to refuel, she too may have become like the trailer truck driver.
29 (TUE) There are three survivors in the station, including Marvin (the Chief, excluding the mayor's daughter). <Events in the police station>
→ The breakdown of the three survivors are Marvin who was badly wounded in the west office, the young police officer who tried escaping by helicopter, and the middle-aged police officer who requested help on the rooftop and was cornered by Zombies.
BIOHAZARD GLOSSARY (p.192)
R.P.D.
The abbreviation of Raccoon Police Department.
Albert Wesker
Former S.T.A.R.S. Captain. Died at the hands of a B.O.W.
A (Alpha) Team
A heavily armed private spec ops unit sent by Umbrella to steal the G-Virus, they succeeded in seizing the G-Virus initially but during their escape they were attacked by "someone" with tremendous strength and the unit was completely decimated.
Umbrella
An international pharmaceutical company based in Europe. While developing new drugs, they also began researching viral weapons, causing numerous biohazards. The company name, Umbrella, is based on the company's motto, "Protecting The Health Of The People."
ADA & JOHN
A password set by T-Virus researcher John in the security system. To be precise, JOHN is the login name and ADA is the password.
Chris Redfield
A male member of S.T.A.R.S. who served as a main character in the previous game "BIO HAZARD." He had a career as an Air Force pilot and holds a helicopter piloting license. During the Mansion Incident he fought many monsters with his firearms handling and tough body as his weapons. He has a big personality unconcerned with little things, but he always cares about his sister, Claire. The large knife holder attached to his left shoulder is his trademark.
G-Virus
A new generation of bio-virus successfully developed by William Birkin. It alters the structure of living things from the cellular level and evolves organisms at incredible speed. It has an effect of resurrecting the dead.
G Vaccine
An antigen for G commonly called "DEVIL." If the embryo from a G-Organism's still in the early stages inside an implanted host, this drug can be administered to prevent becoming a G-Organism. It requires a large apparatus, but if preparations are set, it doesn't take an expert to produce the vaccine.
John
A T-Virus researcher dispatched from the Umbrella Chicago Branch. He was infected with the T-Virus in the mansion accident and left behind a letter stating how to disengage the security. Ada's former boyfriend.
Jill Valentine
A female member of S.T.A.R.S. who acted as a main character in the previous game and contributed to resolving the Mansion Incident, she's adept at unlocking with lockpicks and is said to be the best on the team for dexterity. S.T.A.R.S.
A special mission unit formed inside the Raccoon Police Department. The unit was comprised of two teams, Alpha Team and Bravo Team with 12 people in total, but more than half of them were killed in the line of duty in the Mansion Incident, so they're currently inactive.
Typewriter
A dated document output device. Since power isn't needed to use ink ribbons to record the current circumstances of the investigation, they were also used in the old mansion and its attached facilities where the previous incident occurred.
T-Virus
A virus developed by William Birkin for manufacturing bio-monsters. It enhances the vitality of infected creatures and transforms them into rabid warriors lacking pain or emotions. Due to its highly contagious and unstable nature, small leaks can lead to catastrophes. T is an acronym for "Tyrant."
Herb
Plants native to the Arklay Mountains and Raccoon region which contain medicinal ingredients, green can be used for recovery, blue for disinfection, and red for enhanced recovery. Multiple therapeutic effects can be expected by blending.
Biohazard
A word that refers to biological disasters. It indicates critical situations for humans and ecosystems caused by pathogens, creatures, etc.
Barry Burton
A veteran member of S.T.A.R.S., an old friend of Chris. Recognized by both himself and others as an enthusiastic gun-maniac, he also often appeared at the gunshop "KENDO" near the police station. He's married with two daughters.
P-ε Gas (Anti-B.O.W. Use Gas)
A green gas reported to weaken B.O.W.'s. A later follow-up investigation verified that long-term dispersal adversely increases the adaptability of B.O.W.'s and imparts toxicity.
B.O.W.
A general term for bio-monsters created by Umbrella. It's the abbreviation for "Bio Organic Weapon", meaning organic living weapons. Many of the monsters that appear in this incident aren't included in the category of B.O.W. because they weren't intentionally manufactured by Umbrella.
Brad Vickers
A male member of S.T.A.R.S. with a license to pilot helicopters. He supported the escape of Chris, Jill and others in the Mansion Incident, but the virus has leaked this time and he was infected with the T-Virus.
Mansion Incident
A bizarre incident that occurred in the Arklay Mountains on the outskirts of Raccoon City. The T-Virus leaked into the mansion and the laboratory attached to it, and many people, including the researchers, became Zombies. B.O.W.'s manufactured as test subjects were loose and it was in a dangerous state, but at one stage it saw a tentative conclusion with the intervention of S.T.A.R.S.
Raccoon City
A small city located in the Midwest. Although it's a quiet country town surrounded by forest, a turbulent atmosphere spread following the Mansion Incident. Since Umbrella's pharmaceutical factory is the city's central industry, citizens don't want to talk much about Umbrella.
Rebecca Chambers
A rookie member of S.T.A.R.S. enlisted with a wealth of chemical knowledge. Since it hasn't been long after she was assigned for special forces personnel, she's fledgling. The white pouch with an emergency mark she carries on duty is her favorite.
Playing the piano's a hobby of hers and she's quite proficient, improvising Beethoven's "Moonlight." She habitually uses a blue beret with the S.T.A.R.S. logo.
DEVELOPMENT STAFF Q&A (p.257-262)
We asked this game's director Hideki Kamiya (CAPCOM Development Headquarters Planning Room 2) forty questions about BIO2. Since there are many interesting answers, please read them slowly and attentively. In addition, we've put together rare original setting pictures and development screens.
Q1. Can you explain the decision to make the police station the game's initial setting?
A1. In the previous game, we created a confined space with the setting of "a mansion surrounded by a forest", but this time I wanted to create a more desperate situation, so I turned the entirety of Raccoon City, which was also the previous game's setting, into a city of the dead surrounded by Zombies. I chose the police station as the first stage because I liked the idea that even the police station, a symbol of justice that safeguards the city's security, has become a nest of monsters. I'd say there's a feeling of despair in there being "nothing left to rely on."
Q2. Where'd the "Zapping System" idea come from?
A2. The idea of making a Zapping story was something we had in mind since late in the previous game's development. We had a lot of people asking us if Chris and Jill's stories were on the same timeline (their stories are in fact parallel), so we thought it'd be a good idea to use that idea in "2."
Q3. "Leon A & Claire B" and "Claire A & Leon B." Which scenario combination could be considered the true one?
A3. Both of them of course, and as an aside, we really wanted to focus on the Zapping this time so we emphasized elements of scenario branching. Given that there are four types of Zapping stories, I figured it'd be necessary to have players enjoy the branching stories over and over again... If you have the time, it'll be interesting to try out the story branching.
Q4. What were your standards when you decided which weapons to include in the game?
A4. Basically, everyone decided at staff meetings which weapons to include by saying, "This weapon can do this and that, so I wanna put it in!" In particular, since the weapons used by Leon and Claire are almost completely different, it was a difficult task to assign the weapons and adjust them in the actual game. The weapon choices were left to the tastes of Takeuchi, a supervisor and weapons enthusiast (player character motion designer). Leon's handgun, the H&K VP70, I personally thought wasn't any good, but Takeuchi was unusually excited and pushed for it, so... he's quite a nut.
Q5. What'd you do to improve the sound?
A5. In terms of BGM, the staff requested the songs not only produce "fear" but also have a proper melody line. I think it was very difficult to make music that recaptured fear and were also memorable, but I applaud the sound staff who did it wonderfully. Regarding SE (sound effect), even if they're utilized from real sounds, they can seem strange when applied to the game, so it was hard to match them with the game. Not only gunshots and monsters squealing, but even footsteps are very sensitive.
Q6. Why was Leon wearing the Raccoon police uniform before he arrived at his post?
A6. Leon graduated from the police academy and was immediately assigned to the Raccoon Police Department. There've been a lot of bizarre cases recently despite Raccoon being a rural town that appears free of violent incidents, and Leon, with his strong sense of justice, was very interested in them and volunteered to be assigned there.
He had to start his shift in the morning of course, but when he had to leave the place he'd been living, he had a big fuss with his girlfriend about whether or not to break up with her, and his move was postponed (though it seems they broke up in the end...)
Finally, the day before his appointment, Leon drove all night to Raccoon City, yet to find a new place to move. At a motel along the way however, Leon had a drinking binge and woke up in the afternoon! (I know it sounds crazy, but it's typical of Leon, who's sincere with women, to be so distraught).
Leon rushed out in a panic, but no matter how many times he tried to communicate on the way, there was no response from the Raccoon Police Department.
"It's gonna be night before I reach Raccoon at this rate... Oh well, if I'm this late, night or day doesn't matter."
Leon drove his car, keeping rhythm with his favorite music playing on the car stereo. At the end of the straight highway, the crimson Arklay mountains eerily towered, lit by the setting sun...
...So, he changed at the motel into the uniform he'd been supplied with.

Q7. What kind of college lifestyle is Claire living?
A7. Claire's hobby is tinkering with motorcycles and she loves buying engines and building things into her favorite styles. She currently owns two motorcycles (the white one in the opening cutscene and the black one seen on her ranking screen). She's got a lot of boyfriends, but doesn't seem to be going steady with anyone in particular.
Q8. Did Ada really love Jon or was she just using him?
A8. That... is something only Ada knows. That woman's shrouded in quite a bit of mystery anyway, even the identity of the organization that sent her has yet to be revealed...
Q9. Is Ada Wong her real name?
A9. As I answered in Q8, everything about Ada's shrouded in mystery... Well, let's leave it at that for now, but as a side-note, Ada's not the only name that appeared in the first game. Take a look at the character selection profile in "BIO." You'll notice Chris and Jill's ID cards are signed by "Brian Irons"... (Maybe it's hard to see because the image is blurry?)
Q10. Are any characters named after certain things?
A10. The name "Sherry" comes from The Four Seasons. The song's also pretty cool!
Q11. In the gun shop, there's an Umbrella logo below the counter. Does this mean the owner has something to do with Umbrella?
A11. The old guy in the gun shop's just that, an old guy. His name, by the way, is Robert Kendo. His nickname's Bob and he's 40-years-old. He's a good friend of Barry, the member of S.T.A.R.S. whose hobby is collecting guns, and they often go fishing together. The Umbrella symbol on the counter is just a simple drug-related advertisement. The town of Raccoon City is itself kinda held together by Umbrella, so their products pervade all over the place.
Q12. Why didn't the gun shop owner lock the entrance to his shop even though there were Zombies and monsters everywhere?
A12. The old guy (Bob) was hiding behind the counter trying to keep his breath down. If he made any sudden moves, the Zombies would spot and attack him. In fact, the Zombies had a tendency to enter the gun store from the back street and exit towards the front street, so as long as the doors were open, no Zombie would bother to stop and notice Bob behind the counter (but of course, he had no time to lock the doors...) But Bob's caught off guard when he realizes the intruder (Leon or Claire) is neither a Zombie nor a robber, and he makes the worst possible choice by hiding in that tiny gun store, which couldn't possibly hold back the Zombie hordes. As a result, Zombies, excited by the humans, break in through the window and kill him...
Q13. Why was Ben imprisoned?
A13. He was arrested for looking into the Chief's personal affairs, and it was easy for the Chief to dispose of a nuisance with his authority. He could frame them with any number of charges he wanted. But Ben also stole the key from a prison guard and could've escaped at any point...
Q14. Looking at their common interest in taxidermy, do the security chief, who only appeared by name in the first game, and Chief Irons have anything to do with each other?
A14. The police chief and head of security must've known each other of course, as they're both deeply involved with Umbrella, but it was probably just a coincidence the police chief also had a penchant for taxidermy, as the police chief's taxidermy was a symbol of his inner madness, and some of the cops even talked about him stuffing people at night... Maybe some of the taxidermy in the head of security's room were gifts from the police chief.
Q15. Did the rats that spread the virus become monsters themselves?
A15. They became monsters. However, the sewer ecosystem's in such severe disarray they're losing a race for survival to the giant cockroaches.
A7. Claire's hobby is tinkering with motorcycles and she loves buying engines and building things into her favorite styles. She currently owns two motorcycles (the white one in the opening cutscene and the black one seen on her ranking screen). Q15. Did the rats that spread the virus become monsters themselves?
A15. They became monsters. However, the sewer ecosystem's in such severe disarray they're losing a race for survival to the giant cockroaches.
Q16. Are all G creatures in the game the same? If that's the case, is the creature in Film A also a G?
A16. The Gs Leon and Claire fight are all the same one, so where'd the G-Organism in Film A go? The answer's "it didn't go anywhere." That G was still in the experimental stage, and even until the end is still contained in a cultivation capsule in one of the rooms in the Umbrella laboratory, so which room would that be? The room actually appears in the game... By the way, that G was just a test subject and doesn't evolve any further.
Q17. Are the Tyrants repeatedly in the way all the same one?
A17. They're all the same one as well. The fact Umbrella's helicopter carried so many capsules meant they had several Tyrants to spare. If necessary, Umbrella could drop Tyrants at any other location.
Q18. In the lab's emergency exit and other such places, there's a circular mark with three Cs joined together. What do these marks mean?
A18. Those marks are found on places and objects that could potentially cause a "biohazard", and they actually exist in real life, so if you looked for them, you could actually buy things with those marks on them. By the way, in the previous game, this mark was in the front of the room containing the Tyrant. (Remember that?)
Q19. What were William and Annette doing during the Mansion Incident in the previous game?
A19. They were simply in the process of developing the G-Virus. For Umbrella, both the T-Virus and the G-Virus were projects being advanced in parallel, and at that point, there was no superiority or inferiority between them. Umbrella lost one of its labs due to Wesker's betrayal, but they secured the T-Virus itself, so it wasn't a major problem. On the other hand, at the lab William oversaw, there were already signs of William going out of their control, and Umbrella was steadily working on a plan to get the G-Virus back from William, who refused to give it to them.
Q20. In Leon's A scenario & Claire's B scenario, the G-Virus that Claire dropped in the molten iron pool and the one Annette had just before she died, are they the same G-Virus?
A20. They're different. The G-Virus Annette was carrying is thrown away by Leon. The pendant that's thrown into the molten iron pool in Claire B is the one Sherry's been wearing around her neck since the beginning. So in other words, there are two G-Viruses.
Q21. Where'd the G-Virus samples taken from William go?
A21. If you look closely at Annette's recollections, you'll see the maniacal William ingested all of the G-Virus into his body after getting it back... In other words, he ate them. By the way, in the other scenario "The 4th Survivor", HUNK appears to have a G capsule he'd secured before it was eaten by William. As a result of that scenario, it's safe to assume HUNK gave the G-Virus to Umbrella.
Q22. How'd the FAX get delivered even though telephone communications were down?
A22. S.T.A.R.S. is a special presence inside the police station and it's believed the data was temporarily stored in the internal memory and simply printed out just in time. The FAX sent out is also elliptical, meaning it wouldn't be printed unless instructed on the receiving end, so I'm not sure why, but there's something about the way the document was printed in front of Claire that makes me feel like there's a karmic connection.

Q23. In the ending of Leon's A scenario, how'd Sherry know him?
A23. Although it's not depicted in-play, there must've been a conversation between Claire and Sherry before the freight train left... In other words, Claire was telling Sherry they had to escape the lab with a man named Leon, and she told her about him.
Q24. Why don't the S.T.A.R.S. officers appear…?
Q24. I didn't think the previous game's main characters were particularly essential, so... This time I rather wanted to create attractive characters that were as good as the previous ones, so I went ahead with creating a completely new story.
Q25. Where'd Chris, Jill, Barry and Rebecca go?
A25. The whereabouts of Chris, Jill and the others remain unknown except for the fact they went to Europe. Rebecca... may become clear soon.
Q26. Are you referring to the contents of Film D, a hidden item?
A26. That's entirely the hobby of CG modeller [Tetsuya] Shiraishi. Well, I stopped it… (Lie!). Well, this sort of playfulness is important, right?
Q27. Can you explain the process by which Brad became a Zombie?
A27. It's easy to imagine what happened with Brad after Chris and the others returned from the mansion, considering Brad's personality... In other words, he's a coward living his life in deference to the police force, so he would've stood by the Chief in denial of Chris and his colleagues' desperate pleas. Even after Chris and the others flew to Europe, Brad stayed at the police station and got caught up in the incident.
Q28. Who was the woman that threw the rocket launcher?
A28. Who the heck do you think it was? I think I'm gonna watch all your reactions for a while (maliciously!).
[Editor's Note: In Leon's B scenario, take a close look at that silhouetted person's breasts...]
Q29. What's To-fu? Whose voice is that?
A29. As a matter of fact, that's a character we used in our development tools. At the end of development, we thought, wouldn't it be fun to use this character in the game? So we decided to put him into The 4th Survivor. By the way, the voice of "To-fu" comes from enemy programmer Karatsuma (a.k.a Karayan), who has a very unique manner of speaking.
Q30. How'd you decide which secret costumes to include?
A30. Claire's hidden costume's a hobby of mine. Shiraishi, who designed the costume, is originally a CG model designer, but he came forward and said, "I can help with hidden costumes for the female characters!" and made it for me. He also volunteered to design Rebecca's costume for the previous "Director's Cut" (which is why Barry's still in his old outfit).

Q31. How'd you decide which material to use for the texture of Ada's skirt?
A31. That's... a secret. More importantly, how many of you have been able to check out Leon's armpit hair in his tank top!?
Q32. Do the background graphics have any sort of jokey elements?
A32. Hmmm. I think they probably did a bunch of things on their own. For example, there was a time when yoyos were popular among the CG staff for a while. CG walls drawn at the time have the words "Yo 4 it!" (Yo for it! = yoyo freaks slogan). Sheesh... By the way, you can find it on walls in the city.
Q33. Tell us about the rejected design.
A33. I had an idea to include Ada's boyfriend, John, in a sub-story. To make up for his part in Umbrella's evil plans, he supports the main characters from the shadows while his own body's infected with the T-Virus, and in the end he leaves the player with "anti T-Virus bullets" to put an end to the Tyrant, and dies without ever seeing Ada... It was up to the player to decide whether or not John would survive to the end of the game, in conjunction with Zapping... I wonder if I should've done that...?
Q34. Specifically, what kind of game was "BIO1.5" before it was scrapped in favour of "BIO2"?
A34. The stage composition was almost the same as the current one. However, the first police station was a fairly modern building, resulting in an ordinary office building. There were also scenes where you could enter a factory warehouse and production line, or get on the back of a trailer parked outside. The scenarios weren't based on the current Zapping System, but the female protagonist's scenario had scenes with glimpses of Ada, and Marvin, the policeman who gives you the card key in the police station, was Leon's senior partner who he worked with until the end. The reason it was completely rejected was we wanted to be able to announce with confidence, "This is BIO2!". If it hadn't been called "BIO", it might've been a passable game, but we didn't want to release it as BIO2.
Q35. The female protagonist was a racer?
A35. When "1.5" was scrapped, we decided to rework the scenario, so we completely changed the female protagonist's settings. "Elza", the female protagonist of 1.5, was a college student racer who didn't know anything about the Umbrella incident. When she became Chris' younger sister "Claire", we thought, "If she's Chris's sister, let's make her a cuter, more energetic girl!" So we changed her appearance, costume, and everything else. Claire's personality became strong enough she no longer needed a "racer" title.

Q36. If you were to make a "BIO2 DIRECTOR'S CUT", what changes would you add?
A36. I'd like to see a version with higher difficulty levels, maybe with "a third protagonist" and another scenario...!? But for now we want to devote all our energies to a sequel, so I don't think there'll be a "Director's Cut" for a while (maybe forever?)... I don't know (?)
Q37. BIO2 was made on the assumption there'd be a sequel?
A38. I wasn't particularly strongly thinking about about a sequel. Well, questions like that coming up would be a natural reaction when you see the ending... I decided the bigger picture of the ending movies. I wanted players to be immersed in an afterglow at the end and wrote the lines, but to tell you the truth, it was something that came up pretty easily. Basically that means... "Don't think about it too deeply"...? But eh, it's cool, right?
Q38. What sort of content is "BIO3" aiming for?
A38. We'd like to re-examine the original theme and pursue further expressions of "fear", although we're wondering if you need to feel something new when playing...
Q39. Will the characters from BIO2 appear in "3"?
A39. Nothing's been decided concerning "3" yet. Really, I'm not trying to hide anything... We're bringing together a variety of ideas right now, so everyone, please write to us!
Q40. Any messages for the readers?
A40. What'd you think of BIO2? Frankly speaking from the production side, we were very conscious of the market while making this game, in my opinion it was a troublesome game that gave us many problems, and while we made the previous game with a lot of enthusiasts in mind, this time we set out to expand the fanbase from the outset. There were more hardships and conflicts than we anticipated...
There are many points to consider and we're always developing with casual players in mind, not only in terms of difficulty, but also in terms of systems and operability. However, an "enthusiast taste" is also one of the main features of BIO, so we're constantly worried about the contradictions that arise from these. I imagined an "average good game" couldn't be considered a BIO game, so as a creator, I was very particular about these aspects of the game.
For the time being, we hope you'll play BIO2 and discover the different aspects, charms and possibilities of the BIO series. If you've got any queries, comments or suggestions, please feel free to send your fan letters to CAPCOM... We'd love to hear from you.
