The game received a major update on September 29th 2011 in commemoration of 1 million users. Biohazard Outbreak Survive was a free to play game but you had the option to pay for unlock-able content. In commemoration of the 15th anniversary of "Biohazard", new characters and items such as "Jill" and "Masterkey" were also added.
The aim of the game was to complete missions instead of following a story. Players take on the role of civilians trapped on the zombie-infested streets of Raccoon City. Players will struggle for their own survival while working together with friends, sharing healing items and assembling teams of rescued allies to overcome numerous and difficult missions in this new social survival horror game. In addition to the communication element of social games, this title also enables newcomers to enjoy the tense atmosphere and rich setting of the Resident Evil universe.
