Background: Once again for the third year running Biohazard The Real the live-action theme parked attraction returned to the location of Universal Studios in the New York replica village’s Area Palace Theater 2nd floor of Osaka, Japan. The walkthrough attraction "Biohazard the Real 3" based on Capcom's survival horror "Biohazard" was scheduled to begin from July 3rd and was active until November 8th 2015. The latest installment promised even more thrills and chills, giving the ultimate survival horror experience. The length remains the same as the previous two installments at around 8 minutes.
“As the battle rages in Raccoon City, guests join in the action equipped with our new Projection Goggles, designed especially for this attraction by Universal Studios Japan. The feel of the trigger... The sound of bullets whizzing past... Prepare to have your nerves stretched to the max in this relentless, state-of-the-art live-action event. Your dwindling ammo supply and health gauge only add to the tension as the zombies and creatures close in. Amid all the chaos, guests can use two weapons to keep the hordes of living dead at bay: a handgun modeled on actual military weaponry, and the all-new machine gun we’ve added to the attraction this year. You can actually feel the recoil and explosive power of your gun when you pull the trigger—a thrill sure to bring out your fighting instinct and get your adrenaline pumping. For the ultimate survival test, try making it through the attraction with its “Near 0% chance you'll make it out alive.”

Review and Walkthrough
You need a timed entry ticket for the attraction, which are given out on a first come first serve basis. This allows you to join the queue at the listed time on the ticket. These tickets are distributed at a separate location from the attraction itself and run out really fast. We joined the distribution queue at 10:40AM and were given the entry time of 6:15 to 6:30PM. About 20 to 30 minutes later, the queue was closed and all tickets were given out. Another way to ensure entry is to buy the express ticket pack through online reservations.
Before entering you are comprised into a team of eight people. Then heading inside you wait in a stair-well to head to the second floor, here you watch visual instructions were you are informed that you have just gotten off the Raccoon City subway. Then you enter the equipment room and gear up. First up is to strap on the Projection Goggles and an Umbrella Arm Band – it’s works something like Google Glasses and displays the game information on the small spectacle lens. It also comes with audio through the headset featuring such noises as using a first aid spray as seen in the games. Another new addition with the Googles is whenever you shoot a creature, blood shoots out of the creatures creatures through goggles lens. Some users had issues with the goggles coming loose or being too loose to begin with and had to hold the mask to their face for the entire experience.
Grab the "B.D.C.G.-9MM" (Credit: USS Command) handgun with 30 rounds that is passed to you and head over to meet your liaison. You are informed there’s 10 minutes before the Umbrella Corp helicopter arrives at the pick up point and you’ve got to fight your way there with the rest of your group, locating a T-cell sample canister along the way. There’s limited ammo but item pick ups aid you along the way. Before the briefing has a chance to finish a zombie bursts into the room and attacks the U.B.C.S. member, everyone opens fire and kills the zombie and head into the next room following the U.B.C.S. member.
Fans of the BIOHAZARD series would appreciate the gameplay mechanics which are similar to the video games. In-game items make their appearance throughout the course such as ammo, first aid spray and green herbs which players aim at, focus the trigger on (causing the cross-hair to change on the projected display) and shoot at to regain ammo or health.
Accompanied by a female of the UBCS, she give us advice and directions such as "Go that way!" "Zombie, shoot!" "Here, come quickly!" They are support participants who put in a performance. They were also very reliable, they gave a presence that enhances the experience.
Entering into an L-shaped room you begin from the lower right side of the L. A zombie will run out from the corner first, shoot him and walk forward at the corner. Turn the corner to find more zombies. When all are dead, Licker’s popped out from the way that we walked in (two) one crawling and another in the corner.

Attacks came from the windows, from above, jumping out when the door is opened, or chases from behind. If you have a narrow passage, there are only a few places they can attack, but if you are thrown into a wide space, there are many places to watch out for, which is scary.
Shoot the Licker’s and run into another room here you find a dead body, walk to the end of the room, the dead body will come to life, shoot and then continue forward. This time down a narrow path. A zombie pops up. Shoot the zombie and make it to a closed door. The U.B.C.S. leader will call someone to the front to open the door. Opening the door you find zombies, shoot them.

Before leaving this room there will be a trunk at the back that has a pile of ammunition fire at the ammunition for a refill. The next room will have green herb to refill health. The next room you will find someone carrying a viral canister. The U.B.C.S. leader grabs it. When they check the box, it’s empty. Suddenly a Tyrant appeared from the other side of the room. You stand and watch for a little while and then the leader will chase it and move on to the next room.
In the next room you find another viral container. Again it’s empty. Continue traveling through this room You begin running until finding a door that needs to be opened by the U.B.C.S. leader they will point out that one representative from the group must help.

The Leader will enter the code and you enter into the virus room, the Leader will identify the correct viral canister to remove. Which is locked by a code. The code was the same one used to enter the door. When entering the code zombies appeared from the opposite side of the entrance. The leader then told me to run and go to another room. This room you will find four zombies and another Tyrant. This room will have an Assault Rifle you pick up while ditching the pistol. A swarm of zombies and the Tyrant attacked, eventually they are defeated. The Leader then said to run. Everyone came into another room. The Leader is dragged away by the zombies and eaten, it was very dramatic.
The door is closed. Nemesis enters, carrying a flame thrower. The flames obviously only appeared on the players headsets.
The final showdown takes place and players will get to use the machine gun with unlimited ammo in an attempt to defeat the boss and wipe its HP bar to zero. Our bullets did little damage. Finally, there was an explosion via a bomb and Nemesis disappeared (didn't notice where he went). The screen said "You are dead". There appears to have been a pad lock device that you had to open at the very end to succeed. Players online who had experienced or perhaps completed the Real 3 began posting the code for other players on various blog sites. Some of the supposed codes included "1414" and "2715" but one player who wrote a review stated that they had tried these codes but they did not work. Perhaps they changed the code regularly to avoid this tactic. There are several theories as to how you acquire this code such as; the code appears on the left lens of the googles you wear. To unlock you had to shoot certain zombies and memorize the code. Other theories suggest that there is passwords written on the environment such as outside Kendo's Gun Shop "1975" is scratched into a poster. Both these theories are unconfirmed but rumored to have been the solution. Out of 240,000 players only 8 managed to complete The Real 3. These survivors names were posted somewhere on the official website.

Masachika Kawata, Interview
After the attraction experience, a joint interview with Masachika Kawata of Capcom who supervised Biohazard the Real 3 and James Vance.
- First of all, please give us your impression for Biohazard The Real 3.
Masachika Kawata: As the title suggests, this is the third time, I felt strongly that the feeling of fear and realism is upgrading year by year. As a part of creating it I am challenging high-spec contents, but I think that it appears in the result.
James Vance: First of all, when I heard that we adopted projection goggles, I thought it was an ideal idea for a game. However, I felt it was difficult to realize. I was surprised because it was realistically realized. It is a refreshing feeling shooting with a machine gun, the recoil of a gun, weight, etc. were also expressed neatly.
Masachika Kawata: Biohazard has a genre called survival horror as you all know. Although it is a game of that style it is not always straightforward, it is good to have exhilaration and fear coexist.
- What is the big difference with the past two times?
Masachika Kawata: By wearing the protection googles, you can see that you have restricted bullets, it also reacts to attacking creatures, and when you have received damage. The enemies appear more often, but in addition to that, one element has been added this time. If you know BIOHAZARD, there are situations that seem to be tricky, so I would like you to pay attention to it.

Legacy of The Real
Biohazard The Real is one of Capcom’s most successful and critically praised theme attractions to date. Critics and fans a-like all left highly positive feedback for all the experiences, in-particular The Real 3. Which was said to have been the best attraction in the entire park by many visitors based on feedback seen on sites like TripAdvisor. Demand for tickets for The Real always seemed busy even making visitors wait the entire day just to experience the roughly 8 minutes long attraction. As seen in this video the man arrived in the morning and waited around until 7PM just to experience The Real and he said it was absolutely worth it.
It may not have been the most scary attraction in the park but it certainly gave its visitors a thrill and an adrenaline rush that most of the other attractions just did not provide. Why there was no Biohazard The Real 4 remains unknown as this was extremely popular in Universal Studios Osaka Japan. Even making a list by CinemaBlend.com aptly named “Universal Studios rides we wished they would bring back” accompanied by Back to the Future and Silent Hill.
The final survival rate of players who experienced The Real attractions are as follows:
The Real 1: 0.02%
The Real 2: 0.00%
The Real 3: 0.03%
