PLANT 42 NOTES
Four days after the accident, the plant at point 42 has a remarkable growth rate.
Compared to other plants, it has been more strongly affected by the t-Virus, and the ecology commensurate with its shape is such that it is no longer even possible to imagine what the host plant was.
42 has two sources of nutrition.
The first is nutrients obtained via the roots that have reached the basement.
Immediately after the accident, a crazed employee broke the water tank in the basement, and the basement is now flooded.
It's not hard to imagine that some sort of chemical component that leaked into the water could have accelerated Plant 42's rapid growth.
In addition, part of Plant 42 extending from the basement is hanging from the ceiling of the first floor in a bulbous shape through the ducts.
The many vines growing from the bulbs are another means of obtaining nutrients.
When Plant 42 senses prey, it wraps its vines around them like the tentacles of a squid, immobilizing it then sucking the blood with aspirators attached to the back of the vine.
Furthermore, it seems to have some intelligence, and when it captures prey or when it is sleeping, it twists the vines around the door to prevent outside enemies from entering.
Several staff members have already fallen victim to it.

事故直後、発狂した職員が地下室の水槽を壊したため、現在地下室は水浸しだ。
そこに流出している何らかの薬品成分が、プラント４２の急速な成育を促進させている事は想像に難くない。
さらに地下室から伸びたプラント４２の一部は、ダクトを通り、一階の天井から球根状になってぶら下がっている。
その球根から伸びている何本ものツルが、もう一つの養分の入手手段となっている。
プラント４２は獲物を感知すると、丁度イカの触手のように獲物にツルを巻つけ動けなくしてから、ツルの裏についている吸入器で血を吸うのだ。
しかもそれなりに知能があるらしく、獲物を得た時や、睡眠中はツタを扉にからませ、外敵の侵入を防いでいる。
既に数人の職員がその犠牲となった。
