A sniper with outstanding kinetic visual acuity and phenomenal concentration, there are no snipers in the BSAA surpassing his abilities. Since he has an unusually intense sense of responsibility as well as smarts, he can instantly move into action with the optimal means in various circumstances, not limited to the battlefield. He's a thoughtful, serious man, but his everyday personality's very cheerful and he also has a kindness that allows him to be friendly to anyone without prejudice.
Due to this, Chris viewed him with respect even before losing his memory, saying he'd "one day carry the BSAA on his shoulders." Piers himself places his trust and respect in Chris who calls his people "family", believing "the presence and unity of friends makes the BSAA stronger."
Whilst Chris was missing, it was Piers who temporarily took over his duties as Captain.

"Piers has been acting Captain of Alpha Team for little over a month now, and he is indeed the ace Chris anticipated. He's been doing quite well. Although he's yet to attain the level of phenomenal leadership skills like Chris, he passes the test.
As things are I'm willing to let him continue gaining experience and someday appoint him as Alpha's official commander, but it looks like Piers himself has only one thing on his mind, and that's reinstating Chris.
I think if we allow him to gain experience, he could be made into Alpha's formal Captain in the future, but Piers appears to think it's just a recovery team for Chris. Despite using agents he puts to work searching for Chris, he himself finds time to fly around Eastern Europe looking for Chris. For Piers, there's no BSAA without him. I hope they find Chris as soon as possible."
