NEW VIRUS STRAIN DEVELOPMENT PROGRESS WRITTEN REPORT
Just as gene analysis of the newly-discovered virus, The Abyss, was nearing completion, an international pharmaceutical company's research institute came to us through the channels of a certain national organization, offering to collaborate.
They proposed an experiment to develop an improved virus strain by incorporating The Abyss into a viral weapon called the t-Virus.
Once completed, the new virus strain will make it easier to manufacture B.O.W.'s based on the genes of marine life.
It will open yet another door for biological weapons development.
However, research into the new virus strain's development has been challenging.
The t-Virus genes made it possible for interspecies infection between all organisms, including humans.
The fact is however that a carrier's bodily tissues break down, unable to withstand the powerful speed of mutation derived from The Abyss.
We were able to solve this problem by purposely suppressing the virus' activity in the early stages of infection, allowing it to adapt over time.
A further unexpected by-product was also produced.
Although we avoided degradation, the flesh of individuals infected with the new virus partly liquefied, and even their bone tissue mutated.
Through this, the infected body is ensured characteristically soft flesh, allowing it to emerge from even the slightest crevices to attack a target, like a phantom.
Moreover, we've documented a type whose limbs hardened into sharp weapons as a result of its dissolved bone composition beginning to melt and flowing into the outer skin.
These characteristics led to humans infected with the new virus being named "Ooze", meaning "dripping thing."
Although their appearance just barely retains a humanoid form, there are no traces of their former selves and it's more appropriate to call them deformed monsters.
The virus is getting closer and closer to completion through our experiments on infected test subjects.
In the bioweapons business however, it's no perfect product unless we develop a vaccine paired with the virus.
In order to do that, we require a vast amount of clinical data.
Detecting antibodies from a small number of sample experiments is all down to luck and very time consuming.
The top brass needs an artificial pandemic.
That seems to be the hard-line argument going around.
That's nothing short of what we call bioterrorism these days...

NEW-TYPE VIRUS DEVELOPMENT REPORT
As our genetic mapping of the new virus (The Abyss) neared completion, the Global Pharmaceutical Consortium offered the assistance of their research branch via their contacts in an unnamed country.
They proposed combining The Abyss with a weaponized virus called the T-Virus to make our virus more suited for research and experimentation. The new recombinant virus, which utilizes the DNA of sea-based organisms as its base, should make it easier to create B.O.W.s.
We have successfully broken down one of the barriers to the creation of bio-organic weapons.
The T-Virus includes human genetic material and is capable of cross-infection.
However, the speed at which The Abyss triggers transformation is so rapid, it breaks down the cellular structure of the host. Fortunately, this problem was overcome by adjusting the rate at which infection occurs in the host's body.
There is one side effect, however, that we did not anticipate. While cellular breakdown is no longer a problem, half of the host's solid mass, including musculature and bones, is liqueified during infection. The host's body becomes highly malleable, allowing it to attack a target from unexpected places.
Some hosts have shown the ability to secrete their liqueified bony material from their hands and feet, thus giving their appendages sharp, protective coverings. Human hosts such as these have been designated with the codename "Ooze."
Such hosts only retain humanoid form with much effort, and while they can sustain this form, they lack all visible resemblance to their former selves.
With each experiment and every infected host, we draw ever closer to perfecting the virus.
As far as the bio-weapon industry is concerned, the product itself is useless until a vaccine that can prevent infection is also developed.
We will need much more data from clinical trials for that to happen. Deriving antibodies from a few test subjects will require time and luck.
I recently heard some mumblings from the higher-ups about a manmade pandemic. I suppose that's a business euphemism for bio-terrorism.
