NEO UMBRELLA
The mystery woman Ada Wong whom the BSAA met in the Republic of Edonia placed Chris in a trap and mutated his subordinates into B.O.W.'s using the C-Virus.
The bioterrorist organization "Neo Umbrella" led by Ada studied the C-Virus at a laboratory in China and took advantage of the Republic of Edonia civil war by secretly supplying the virus to mercenaries. They turned into J'avo, a B.O.W. produced by the C-Virus, and data was collected.
For a long time in Chris' past, he'd fought desperately against the pharmaceutical company "Umbrella" which caused much bioterrorism. It's easy to imagine Chris would've had a strong sense of impending danger when he heard the name Neo Umbrella. Why'd Ada Wong name her organization Neo Umbrella? Only she knows.
In the Eastern Europe/Republic of Edonia mission, Alpha Team encountered Ada Wong and Neo Umbrella, and the troops were nearly wiped out. However, the investigation progressed cautiously since there was nothing proving the existence of an organization called Neo Umbrella when they participated in the Republic of Edonia's civil war, and the words of the woman Ada may have been fake.
Before long, bioterror broke out in China.
As Neo Umbrella formally issued a claim of responsibility and the presence of its leader Ada Wong was confirmed, the BSAA will finally face the terrorist organization bearing the name of the loathsome Umbrella.
We can observe what happened at the time based on a note by Marco Rose, a member of the BSAA North America Branch.

As the leader of Neo-Umbrella, Ada brought the C-Virus that had been developed in China to the civil war in Edonia, where she secretly gave it to the insurgents to administer to its mercenary fighters. The mercenaries then mutated into creatures known as J'avo, and she gathered the data on their transformations.
Chris has spent most of his life fighting the pharmaceutical company Umbrella, almost losing it on numerous occasions. It's not hard to imagine what he thought when he first heard the name Neo-Umbrella. Why Ada named her organization such is a question only she can answer.
Alpha team was almost completely annihilated after coming into contact with Neo-Umbrella and Ada. However, there was still no actual proof of Neo-Umbrella's existence at the time. The woman who called herself Ada could even have been lying as far as the BSAA knew, so they were careful not to jump to any conclusions.
Ultimately, Neo-Umbrella officially made its voice heard when the new virus hit China, and Ada Wong was confirmed as its leader. Below is a note written by Marco Rose of BSAA North America before being sent off to China to counter the new organization and its attacks.
