Project Umbrella Translation
CHRIS AND WESKER
There is a deep history between Chris Redfield and Jake Muller's father, Albert Wesker.
Both of them once belonged to the Raccoon City special ops unit S.T.A.R.S., and together in 1998 they worked on dealing with the "Mansion Incident", when B.O.W.'s were documented for the first time in history. However, in reality Wesker was the mastermind of this incident working for Umbrella, and Chris lost many of his friends due to his betrayal.
This kicked off with Chris taking this opportunity and beginning a long battle in order to defeat Umbrella, and Wesker maneuvered secretly in many incidents caused by B.O.W.'s.
Then, in 2009.
Chris confronted Wesker as he plotted a global bioterror attack in Africa, and Wesker became a B.O.W. and was defeated after a battle to the death. Thus, their relationship spanning over a decade was put to an end.
Chris wrote about how he felt at this time as follows.

"Defeating Wesker is undoubtedly a turning point for me. Due to this battle, I found the meaning behind "what I'm fighting for." But at the same time, after finally killing Wesker who was involved in a lot of bioterrorism, I also strongly feel like "I've finished my duty."
I have no intentions of stopping my war on bioterror. From this point on though, it should be a younger generation who share my vision at the forefront of this fight. It's not like there's zero possibility of someone like Wesker turning up again some day.
When that time comes, I'll need people who can follow in my footsteps to fight bioterror. I'm quitting my position as an agent and joining the unit. For the future of the BSAA, I have to raise my young comrades on the frontlines."

二人はかつて、ラクーンシティの特殊部隊S.T.A.R.S.に所属し、共に1998年、史上初めてB.O.W.が確認された「洋館事件」の対処にあたった。しかし、実はこの事件の黒幕はアンブレラと繋がっていたウェスカーであり、彼の裏切りによってクリスは多くの仲間を失うことになる。
これを機にアンブレラ打倒に立ち上がったクリスと、B.O.W.による数々の事件で暗躍するウェスカーとの長い戦いが幕を開ける。
そして、2009年。
アフリカで世界規模のバイオテロを企んでいたウェスカーと対峙したクリスは、B.O.W.となったウェスカーを死闘の末に倒した。十数年におよぶ二人の因縁は、こうして終止符が打たれたのである。
この時の心境を、クリスは下記のようにつづっている。

「ウェスカーを倒したことが、ひとつのターニングポイントになることは間違いない。今回の戦いで、俺は"何のために戦うのか"という意義を見いだした。だが同時に、多くのバイオテロに関与してきたウェスカーをようやく倒したことで、"俺の役目は終わった"という思いも強く抱いている。
バイオテロとの戦いをやめるつもりはない。だが、これから先、第一線でそれを担うべきは、俺と同じ志を持った若い世代だ。いつかまた、ウェスカーのような存在が現れる可能性はゼロではない。

Chris Redfield and Albert Wesker, Jake Muller's father, have a history that goes back to when the two were on the same S.T.A.R.S. team and encountered the world's first known B.O.W.s during the Mansion Incident in 1998.
It turned out later that this "accident" was engineered by Albert, who was working for Umbrella. As a result, Chris lost many good friends and colleagues. Chris set out to stop Umbrella and prevent the spread of B.O.W.s, which led him into conflict with Albert on numerous occasions.
In 2009, Chris found himself in Africa as he attempted to stop Albert from murdering a majority of the planet's population. During their battle, Albert mutated himself into a B.O.W., but he was killed thanks to Chris and his partner, Sheva Alomar. Thankfully, Albert's plans of global genocide were never realized.

Taking care of Wesker was definitely a big turning-point. I realized what I had been fighting for. But then again, at the same time, defeating a monster like him really made me feel like I had accomplished all I had set out to do.
I have no intention of giving up the fight. But I can't do it alone. There may come a time when someone like Wesker comes around again, and a younger generation will need to carry the torch. So, I'm going to go back to working in a team and teach the younger generation what they need to know. The BSAA will need them.
