BIOHAZARD Pia (BIOHAZARDぴあ) is a 20th anniversary mook published by Pia.
THE VERY ORIGIN THAT REVOLUTIONIZED HORROR GAMES
The landmark first title in the series, "BIOHAZARD", was released 20 years ago on March 22nd 1996. Perhaps the fate of a new title, it didn't receive much attention at launch. However, word-of-mouth gradually boosted its popularity after release. One reason cited was its high level of polish as a game. If we were to categorize BIOHAZARD within existing game genres, it would likely be an action-adventure. Yet it's defined as “survival horror” due to its game design, which relentlessly focuses on “surviving within terror.” This includes systems like limited ammo and save points. This core philosophy, passed down through sequels, forms the very foundation of BIOHAZARD.
Porting and remaking games serves as an indicator of a title's popularity. BIOHAZARD 1 was no exception. Six years after the original release, in 2002, it was remade for the Nintendo GameCube (GC). It was also CAPCOM's first title for the GC. BIOHAZARD had grown into a series worthy of carrying such a significant responsibility.
Graphics evolved dramatically with the GC version and later HD remaster. The image above shows a signature scene from ‘1’ – an encounter with a Zombie. The GC version uses light and shadow effects to render the zombie's face with three-dimensional depth. The HD remaster boasts breathtaking realism with its intricate details.
MAIN CHARACTER 1
Chris Redfield
Characterized by high stamina to shrug off most attacks. In the original game, the limited number of items he can carry makes the challenge higher. He remains a main character in the series, starring in later titles as well.
MAIN CHARACTER 2
Jill Valentine
The other protagonist alongside Chris in this game. She can carry more items and use a wider variety of tools than Chris, making her character easier to play. Consequently, she's positioned as the beginner-friendly character.
File No.1: Numerous Production Techniques Pursuing “Survival Horror” to the Extreme
The source of BIOHAZARD's terror lies not only in its horrific creatures but also in various production techniques that heighten fear. The exploration screen uses a fixed camera angle, not the player character's viewpoint. This creates blind spots, like around corners, stimulating the player's imagination with thoughts like “What lies ahead?” Similarly, the door opening/closing sound effect during movement, used to fill data loading wait times, achieves the same effect. It's a brilliant piece of direction that turned hardware limitations to its advantage.
The scene where Cerberus smashes through the window shocked everyone
The dog-like creature Cerberus suddenly bursts through the window. Since this happens early in the game when players are still getting used to it, countless players panicked. It's one of the defining scenes of the original game.
Masterful camera work heightens fear and puzzle-solving
The meticulously calculated camera angles inside the mansion make you imagine, “There might be a creature just ahead...” It also highlights suspicious objects, deepening immersion during exploration.
File No.2: Wesker's Ambition, Lurking Behind the Creatures
As the story unfolds, Chris and Jill's escape, later dubbed the "Mansion Incident", reveals itself to be part of someone's conspiracy. Wesker's godless evil deeds are also a crucial component of the terror in BIOHAZARD.
Chris and Jill's superior officer and the mastermind behind this incident
Despite being the S.T.A.R.S. captain, he assassinated and threatened his subordinates, then manipulated them into fighting creatures. The Mansion Incident was merely the prologue to his ambitions, and he'd become the arch-enemy for Chris and Jill.
S.T.A.R.S. members who become Zombies after death and attack their comrades
Some members noticed Wesker's machinations but were silenced (left photo). Others who lost their lives later became Zombies (right photo). The scene where they're forced to point guns at their transformed comrades would become a recurring staple.
File No.3: The Clue Planted in the Climax
Toward the end of the story, Wesker reveals he's the mastermind behind the incident and an Umbrella operative. Immediately afterward, he's attacked by the creature he awakened. Chris and Jill narrowly escape. This incident resolves them to fight Umbrella. The Mansion Incident that determined their fate reaches its temporary conclusion.
The Beginning of the Feud with Wesker
Though seemingly dead, Wesker later reunites with Chris in ‘CODE: Veronica’ (P.32). Their feud began here.
PARTNERS
A young S.T.A.R.S. member supporting Chris. In the GC version, his character portrayal reflects ‘0’ (P.34), presenting a more composed demeanor.
A firearms specialist supporting Jill. Under threat from Wesker, he even points a gun at Jill.

A sequel that evolved after overcoming a release delay
The first game became a million-seller, creating immense expectations for its sequel. After about two years, BIOHAZARD 2 was released. While it became a massive hit, selling approximately 5 million copies worldwide, did you know its development was incredibly difficult? At the time, development on ‘2’ was about 70% complete, but CAPCOM decided to restart development, deeming the quality insufficient. One can only imagine the hardship faced by the development staff at the time and the disappointment of users upon learning of the delay. However, the high quality of the final product cemented the appeal of the BIOHAZARD series in gaming history.
Like ‘1’, the protagonists are two characters, one male and one female, but the scenario saw significant evolution. It adopted a system where multiple playthroughs revealed new discoveries, adding depth to the story while also laying numerous seeds for sequels. Among these were poignant dramas, like the bond between a parent transformed into a creature and their child. It was a game that showcased the appeal of BIOHAZARD, proving it was more than just horror.
MAIN CHARACTER 1 - A rookie police officer whose tardiness saved him from danger, possessing unexpected courage for a newbie
A rookie police officer scheduled to be assigned to Raccoon Police Department. He oversleeps on his first day, but this spares him from infection. He teams up with Claire, who arrived in the city at the same time, and demonstrates survival skills beyond his rookie status.
MAIN CHARACTER 2 - Chris's sister, drawn into the crisis while searching for her brother who threw himself into the fight
The sister of Chris, the protagonist of ‘1’. She's a lively college student who loves motorcycles. True to being Chris's sister, she has an undaunted personality. As a playable character, she has no performance difference from Leon; only her partner differs.
File No.1: Two Protagonists, Two Routes - Experience 4 Escape Stories with 2x2 Combinations
Leon, who arrived at the police station significantly late, and Claire, searching for her brother. BIOHAZARD 2 tells the story of two people who simultaneously visit Raccoon City and attempt to escape the city. Their escape dramas occur at the same time, with “what each was doing” being depicted through gameplay. There are two routes to progress: the front and the back. For example, if Leon takes the front route, Claire will proceed through the back. This means that to see the entire story of BIOHAZARD 2, you need to play through Leon's front and back routes, and Claire's front and back routes, totaling four playthroughs.
The opening scene where they board the patrol car determines their fates
In the opening movie, the two board a patrol car. They escape an attack by a zombie lurking inside by crashing the car. The direction the patrol car stops determines whether they take the front or back route, setting their paths. Though a subtle detail, this hidden scene's crucial for determining the game's narrative progression.
The intersecting stories of two characters keep multiple playthroughs fresh
The scenario progression in this game, where you cycle through the story multiple times like switching channels, is called the “Zapping System.” Precisely because the escape route's the same, you can enjoy the subtle differences in identical scenes.
File No.2: The Nightmare Born from the Greed of a Scientist and a Police Chief
The tragedy in ‘2’ was not intentionally caused; it was an “accident” resulting from a series of unfortunate events. William, who secretly developed the “G-Virus” to promote demonic evolution for personal advancement, and Brian, who colluded with him to line their own pockets. Neither intended to destroy the city, but after the events of ‘1’, Chris and Jill launched an investigation, exposing their schemes.
The Mad Scientist Who Transformed Himself into a Monster
An Umbrella Corporation scientist. Targeted by Umbrella for his independently developed “G-Virus,” he was nearly killed but injected himself with it at the last moment. Over time, he transformed into the vicious creature known as “G.”
A police officer who sacrificed citizen safety for personal gain
The Chief of the Raccoon Police Department, colluding with Umbrella. He obstructed Chris and Jill's investigation, creating the root cause of this incident.
File No.3 Leon and Claire: The Birth of New Warriors
Having defeated the “G” and welcomed the dawn, Leon and Claire resolve to wage a long battle against Umbrella. Both are ordinary people, Leon a rookie cop, Claire an ordinary college student, yet Umbrella's viciousness is so severe it instills this resolve in them. Leon reappears in ‘4’ (P.36) and Claire in ‘CODE: Veronica’ (P.32), each showing their growth.
The Two Who Resolve to Defeat Umbrella
For Claire, searching for her brother Chris is synonymous with fighting Umbrella. Following Chris and Jill in ‘1’, a new warrior's born.
PARTNERS
An enigmatic Asian beauty who aids Leon's escape. This encounter forges a deep connection between Leon and her.
The only daughter of William, the mastermind behind this incident. Being a young girl, she possesses no combat skills and can only flee from the creatures.
A milestone title depicting the final days of Raccoon City, the stage where it all began.
Though numbered as "3", this title, BIOHAZARD 3, depicts events occurring almost simultaneously with ‘2’ in the story's timeline. The playable character's Jill Valentine from ‘1’, making her return. Her sexy outfit, a tube top and miniskirt, marked a stark departure from her uniform in ‘1’ and made a huge impact on players.
The subtitle “LAST ESCAPE” signifies the end of Raccoon City, the setting since ‘1’. The shocking ending, where the U.S. government, having abandoned the city after its residents turned into Zombies, cleanses it with a missile, also stunned players.
Interestingly, ‘3’ and ‘CODE:Veronica’ were developed simultaneously. Through Jill's journey in ‘3’ and Chris and Claire's battles in ‘CODE:Veronica’, the games show characters converging towards the common goal of defeating Umbrella. Thus, ‘3’ stands as a pivotal installment in the BIOHAZARD narrative.
MAIN CHARACTER - The Beautiful, Battle-Hardened Warrior Facing Her Second Nightmare
Since ‘1’, she's been investigating Umbrella alongside Chris. While exploring Umbrella's research facility in Raccoon City, she becomes caught in the viral outbreak and attempts to escape the city as its residents rapidly transform into Zombies.
PARTNER CHARACTER - A Righteous Umbrella Mercenary Surviving the Tragedy with Jill
Member of Umbrella's private military unit, U.B.C.S. Under the pretext of rescuing Raccoon City citizens, he plunged into the Zombie infested city. However, the unit was soon wiped out. Isolated, he encountered Jill and attempted to escape the city while working together with her.
File No.1: A character from ‘1’ walks the stage of ‘2’. The terror of being cornered is expressed through both story and system.
Jill, the protagonist of ‘1’, navigates the city streets that were the setting of ‘2’. Players who experienced the previous games must have been intrigued by this setup alone. As a new element unique to ‘3’, the presence of the “Stalker” stands out. It introduced players to the new terror of “being hunted”. Furthermore, ‘3’ is also noteworthy as an action game. The new “Live Selection” system's a mechanic where, when cornered, you must choose an action within a time limit. Your choice can turn a crisis into an opportunity or vice versa, delivering intense survival thrills. Other additions, like the “Quick Turn” for instant pivots and the ability to craft your own ammo, further enhance the survival aspect through both action and systems.
The terror of a vicious pursuer relentlessly closing in
The pursuer appears right from the start, relentlessly tracking Jill. Since BIOHAZARD 3 culminates in defeating this creature, the fear of being hunted looms constantly throughout the game.
Depicting Raccoon City's collapse from Jill's perspective
Shared elements between 2 and 3 include Brad Vickers, a S.T.A.R.S. member who became a zombie in 2, appearing as a human here, and Jill entering the police station Leon and Claire explored in 2.
File No.2: Umbrella assassins operating behind the virus outbreak incident in 2
In addition to the “Tracker,” the enemy in ‘3’ includes Nikolai, Carlos' superior officer. Both are Umbrella assassins: the Tracker aims to eliminate Jill, while Nikolai seeks to collect combat data on the creatures and destroy evidence inconvenient to Umbrella. While ‘2’ depicted a sudden accident, ‘3’ reveals Umbrella's covert operations behind the scenes. Playing both ‘2’ and ‘3’ together reveals the story in a more three-dimensional way.
A cold-blooded observer with hidden missions
A U.B.C.S. mercenary who carries out his tasks with cold precision. His mission, ostensibly to rescue civilians, is actually evidence destruction. He will abandon even his comrades without hesitation if it serves his purpose.
File No.3: The Story Enters a New Phase with the City's Destruction
Escaping the massive explosion at the climax. In ‘3’, the entire city's obliterated by a missile, depicting the largest scale event in the series. The appearance of the U.S. government reveals the events are a national-level issue, further escalating the drama. With the stage from ‘1’ destroyed, the story shifts to a new phase.
The Evil of Umbrella Revealed Through the City's Destruction
Raccoon City was erased from existence by a missile. This alone speaks to how difficult this incident was to resolve and how grave Umbrella's crimes were. This event triggered a plunge in Umbrella's stock price and a government shutdown order, setting the company on the path to extinction.
A Long-Form Biohazard Realized by New Hardware Potential
The announcement that the latest entry in the Biohazard series, previously released on PlayStation (PS), would debut on Dreamcast (DC) sent shockwaves through the industry. Furthermore, its release under the new subtitle ‘CODE:Veronica’ rather than a numbered title sparked widespread speculation about its place within the series.
The evolution brought by the platform shift to DC included the game's visuals: whereas up to ‘3’, characters were polygons against static backgrounds, now the backgrounds were also fully polygon-rendered. The camera, previously completely fixed, now moved according to the player's actions, delivering an immersive play experience. Yet, the signature BIOHAZARD fear of “not knowing what lurks around the corner” remained firmly intact. Story-wise, the Redfield siblings, Chris from ‘1’ and Claire from ‘2’, reunite. Furthermore, Wesker, the mastermind from ‘1’, makes an appearance. The game depicts his history with Chris, whom he once faced, establishing itself as a pivotal work within the series' overarching narrative.
MAIN CHARACTER 1 - Gained experience to meet his brother and grew into a formidable warrior
After the escape in ‘2’, she independently searched for her brother Chris. Mastering combat skills worthy of a professional, she infiltrated an Umbrella facility. However, she was captured and imprisoned on Rockfort Island, this game's setting.
MAIN CHARACTER 2 - The series' key figure, returning to save the spider's crisis
While investigating Umbrella, he receives news from Leon about his sister Claire being in danger and lands on Rockfort Island, only to find Claire's already gone. The latter half of the game shifts the stage to Antarctica, where you control him to advance the story.
File No.1: The Series' Most Dense and Richest Story, Made Possible by the New Hardware
When discussing 『CODE : Veronica』, its exceptionally dense and rich storyline's unmissable. The first half depicts Claire's escape from Rockfort Island. The second half shifts the stage to Umbrella's Antarctic Base, culminating in Chris and Wesker's reunion and the final showdown with Alexia. Both halves boast substantial volume, a length made possible by the then-new hardware's performance, including the Dreamcast.
Depicting Family Ties for Each Character
Steve cannot hide his irritation at Claire's deep trust in her brother. The reason lies in the fate his own family suffered, revealed throughout the story. These familial bonds are also crucial when discussing the enemy Ashford siblings.
The two fated adversaries from ‘1’ confront each other once more
Chris is profoundly shocked by the sight of Wesker, believed dead in ‘1’, and his superhuman physical abilities. What happened to Wesker? And what's he planning?
File No.2: The Contrasting Relationships of the Redfield and Ashford Siblings
“t-Veronica” is the name of the virus independently developed by Alexia Ashford. At just 10 years old, she became the chief researcher at Umbrella's Antarctic Base and eventually succeeded in creating the virus. However, this would cause turmoil within the Ashford family and, by extension, Umbrella itself. Alexia had an older brother named Alfred, and this sibling dynamic's also a crucial element in this game's story. Their twisted sibling affection stands in stark contrast to the straightforward bond between Chris and Claire, making its abnormality all the more pronounced.
A Beautiful Researcher Who Devoted Her High Abilities to Mad Science
A woman possessing rare beauty and a genius intellect. She injected herself with the virus she developed, “t-Veronica,” entered cryosleep, and transformed into a creature while retaining her self-awareness.
The island's tyrannical ruler and fanatical devotee of his great sister
Alexia's brother, entrusted with the island while she was in cryosleep. However, his talents fell far short of his sister's. His personality fractured as he worshipped Alexia, and he became the island's dictator, committing every conceivable atrocity.
File No.3: Chris and Wesker's Confrontation Remains Unresolved
CODE:Veronica, the story of Chris and Claire's reunion, concludes with Alexia's death. Yet Chris's obsession with Umbrella only intensified. Despite Claire's pleas, he threw himself into further battle. The unexpected reunion with Wesker plays a significant role here. Realizing he cannot fight alone, Chris becomes part of an organization to confront Umbrella's bioterrorism.
The Resurrected Wesker Takes Center Stage
Wesker's return since ‘1’. His ambitions and origins gradually unfold in subsequent series entries. In essence, CODE:Veronica's the game that brought Wesker to the forefront of the story.
PARTNER
A young man imprisoned on Rockfort Island due to his father's betrayal as an Umbrella employee. He attempts to escape alongside Claire, but a cruel fate awaits him...
The beginning of everything, depicted through the events occurring just before ‘1’.
CAPCOM's resolve to rebirth the series itself through the remake of the first game. This title, biohazard 0, can be seen as its symbolic representation. The numbering of ‘0’ signifies two key points: First, the story occurs slightly before the Mansion Incident in ‘1’. Furthermore, it depicts the origins of the “t-Virus” that triggered the nightmare and the power struggle within Umbrella surrounding it.
It's also noteworthy the protagonist's Rebecca, who was a partner character in ‘1’. While she was portrayed as an inexperienced rookie in ‘1’, in ‘0’ she acts with fortitude while desperately fighting to survive. Many players surely found her plucky determination appealing. The other protagonist, Billy, a former Marine, skillfully supports Rebecca, who lacks his experience and physical strength, playing a crucial role as the offensive specialist. The gameplay, which involves effectively switching between these two characters, is another key part of ‘0's’ appeal.
MAIN CHARACTER 1 - A rookie who shows veteran-level prowess, unflinching even against sudden creature attacks
A member of S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team responsible for rear support. Deployed as the advance team for the Mansion Incident investigation in the first game, but their helicopter malfunctioned, forcing an emergency landing. The story begins when they find themselves lost in a mysterious train overrun by creatures.
MAIN CHARACTER 2 - A death row inmate caught in a nightmare worse than death
A former U.S. Marine scheduled for execution by firing squad for a crime he didn't commit. He encounters Rebecca during an accident while being transported. His Marine background gives him extensive combat experience, and he can wield firearms with greater effectiveness than Rebecca.
A Milestone Defining BIOHAZARD's Future
Over four and a half years after announcing the series' move to the GameCube. Released in 2005 with great anticipation, this was biohazard 4. This fourth installment underwent a major model change that would determine the series' future direction. It completely overhauled the fixed camera angles of previous games, adopting a top-down view layout where the camera follows the player character from behind. This became the “behind-the-character camera.”
While this represented a major departure from the series' established gameplay conventions, it in no way diminished the core BIOHAZARD experience. Immersion in the characters deepened, and combat with creatures became more intense and gripping. The meticulously crafted graphics, pushing the GameCube's capabilities to their limits, remain remarkably polished even when played today, offering a fresh sense of wonder.
Furthermore, due to its immense popularity and impact, a port to the PS2 was announced and received with fervent enthusiasm from fans. Overcoming a complete overhaul of its game system, biohazard 4 became a monumental work heralding a new beginning for the series.
MAIN CHARACTER 1 - The passionate agent heading to rescue the President's daughter
Leon, who served as a police officer in ‘2’, now appears as an agent directly under the US President. Assigned the mission to rescue the President's daughter, he heads to Europe alone. Compared to ‘2’, he's grown significantly, both mentally and as a nice guy.
MAIN CHARACTER 2 - A spoiled princess whose actions are endearing!? Supporting Leon with her insight
The daughter of the President of the United States. Kidnapped by the Los Iluminados cult on her way home from university. She teams up with Leon, who comes to rescue her, to face the crisis. However, she has the parasitic organism “Plaga” implanted within her body...
File No.1 Action Shooter Elements Take Center Stage, Making the Terror of the Approaching Creatures Even More Real!
A completely revamped action part. The behind-the-back camera view intensifies the sense of the enemy creatures' “looming” threat. Beyond the main gunplay, you can now shoot nearby explosives to cause wide-area damage or knock enemies off high places to inflict damage. This adds the fun of choosing effective attacks on the fly, judging the situation and terrain.
Evolved into TPS (Third Person Shooter) action for deeper character immersion
When you aim a weapon, the view shifts to over the character's shoulder, allowing you to target enemies using laser pointers and standard marks. Delivering a “Critical Hit” to destroy an enemy's head is incredibly satisfying.
Strategy and battle situations change based on how you use the attaché case
Items are stored in an “attaché case,” enabling various arrangements. Additionally, the series introduces its first “money concept.” Money earned during exploration can be used to purchase more powerful items from the arms dealer.
File No.2 No Zombies!? The New Threat: Plaga
This installment does not feature the “Zombies” that have plagued protagonists throughout the Bio series. Instead, you face attacks from “Ganados”, humans still ‘alive’ whose bodies have been taken over by the parasitic organism “Plaga”, and the creatures they've infected!
A cult that unseals the parasite and controls villagers
The mastermind's Saddler, the supreme leader of the cult Los Iluminados, who hosts the "dominant species" of the Plaga parasite within him and rules the region. And the massive priest, Mendez, stands in Leon's way.
Beyond Zombies!? The Terror of Ganados
Unlike Zombies, they possess intelligence, using various weapons and tools to attack in groups. They're the cult's pitiful victims.
File No.3 What'll Leon do to his former partner...!?
Jack Krauser, who carried out a mission with Leon two years prior to ‘4’ (BIOHAZARD THE DARKSIDE CHRONICLES’). Now working alongside Wesker, he faces Leon once more during a mission to infiltrate the cult. The parasitic organism Plaga and Wesker's figure loom behind the cult. The story heads toward its climax.
What are Krauser's true intentions as they meet?
Krauser describes Leon and himself as “two sides of the same coin.” Their final battle also becomes a major dramatic point.
PARTNERS
The mysterious woman believed to have sacrificed herself to protect Leon in ‘2’. Includes a story told from her perspective during the main events of ‘4’.
The Latin American man Leon encounters in the village's abandoned house. He seems to know a lot about the cult Los Iluminados ruling the village...
COLUMN: A prototype for biohazard 4 that became the origin of "Devil May Cry"
In fact, when development began, "4" was completely different from the final version. Initially, it was being developed as a more action-oriented title. However, because certain aspects of its presentation and direction exceeded the established BIOHAZARD world, it was abruptly decided to develop it as a separate title. This became the popular series Devil May Cry.
A Grand Story Pioneering New Frontiers in Team Action
Four years after the previous title, biohazard 4. The home console world saw the PS3 and Xbox 360 fiercely competing as high-end machines. With its release announced for both platforms, this game arrived at the perfect moment to showcase next-gen quality.
The setting was a vast African landscape, a departure from previous entries. Chris, returning as a main character for the first time since "CODE:Veronica", joined a mission alongside his BSAA colleague Sheva to track down his former partner Jill. The series' first two-player cooperative mode (Co-op Mode) delivered an immersive experience of this brutal mission. Leveraging next-gen console networking, players could voice chat and co-op even when physically separated. This proposed a new way to enjoy the game: overcoming its weighty story together. The relentless evolution of BIOHAZARD remained firmly intact in this installment.
MAIN CHARACTER 1 - The long-awaited main character returns! The “true Biohazard” confronts the ultimate evil
The main character from "1" and "CODE: Veronica", and a founding member of the anti-biohazard unit BSAA. Having obtained a lead on his presumed dead former partner Jill, he volunteers for the African operation.
MAIN CHARACTER 2 - Combining a sense of justice with X-like qualities
A female member of the BSAA's West Africa branch. She receives the mission to support Chris and acts alongside him. Having lost her parents in an Umbrella factory, she harbors intense anger and hatred towards bioterrorism.
File No.1: First numbered title to implement simultaneous two-player action. The fun of action goes even further!
The game's defining feature is “cooperative play.” Even in single-player mode (where only Chris is selectable on the first playthrough), Sheva assists as an AI character. However, the real fun lies in online cooperative play. Using voice chat to communicate like on a real battlefield while progressing the story's an unprecedented system that further deepens immersion in the Biohazard world.
Intricate graphics leveraging the latest console power also draw attention
Vast stages under Africa's harsh sun fully utilize the PS3 and Xbox 360's capabilities for extremely realistic depictions. The creatures' eeriness has also been amplified.
Co-op play's possible both online and offline
Offline co-op's supported via split-screen. Furthermore, co-op's also available in the bonus game “The Mercenaries,” and the game includes a "Versus" mode supporting online battles for up to four players.
File No.2: The deadly battle against the “immortal formidable foe” Wesker begins
In the previous game, biohazard 4, Wesker sent Ada and Krauser to obtain the parasitic organism “Plaga.” In BIOHAZARD 5, he infects himself with the Plague, becoming a ‘Majini’ with enhanced physical abilities. He conducts repeated experiments and harbors the ambition to create the ultimate biological weapon using the “Uroboros Virus” he developed himself. The long-standing feud between Chris, Jill, and Wesker, stretching back to the first game, heads toward its conclusion.
The fate of the beautiful Exella, who schemes to become queen of the new world, becomes intertwined
Exella Gionne, descended from the TRICELL lineage. She loves Wesker and aids his Uroboros project, but after being injected with the Uroboros Virus...
File No.3: Reunion with Jill, whom he's searched for. She...
Three years ago, Jill fell off a cliff with Wesker while shielding Chris. Turned into a test subject by Wesker, she possessed superhuman abilities and was controlled by him. Can Chris rescue Jill...?
PARTNERS
Three years ago, she shielded Chris during the battle with Wesker, fell off a cliff, and was presumed dead, considered a casualty of duty...
Member of the BSAA West Africa Branch. Veteran squad leader of Delta Team. Deeply compassionate, he commands the trust of his subordinates.
The terror of “returning to the roots” unfolds aboard a luxury liner
The long-awaited new entry in the BIOHAZARD series arrives on Nintendo 3DS. That was the action-focused BIOHAZARD THE MERCENARIES 3D and the included demo version of BIOHAZARD REVELATIONS. Revelations was released in 2012. True to the developers' message of “returning to horror's roots,” its deep story and terrifying, all-consuming darkness led many fans to name it a series masterpiece. In addition to English audio and Japanese subtitles, it also includes audio and subtitles in six languages other than Japanese, which is one of the new challenges.
The protagonists are the BSAA's Chris and Jill, but the key to this game lies with Parker and Jessica, who transferred from the federal anti-bioterrorism commission, the FBC. Furthermore, the intentions of various characters, such as another BSAA team, their commander, and the terrorist organization Veltro, overlap. Fans will be pleased to know that George Trevor, the designer of the mansion in the first game, was responsible for the interior design of the luxury liner Queen Zenobia, which serves as the setting for this installment. Enjoy a complex story where you can't tell who's friend or foe, and even the facts right in front of you become suspect.
MAIN CHARACTER 3 - Encountered the bioterrorist attack “Terragrigia Panic” with Jessica during his time at the FBC. He later transferred to the BSAA and takes on this mission as Jill's partner. He's a serious and passionate British-Italian.
MAIN CHARACTER 4 - A former FBC agent who survived the Terragrigia Panic. An excellent marksman, he became Chris's partner after transferring to BSAA. Even during combat with Bio Organic Weapons (BO.W.), he remains supremely relaxed, engaging in casual conversation, prompting Chris to tell him to “Focus!”
File No.1 The BIOHAZARD series on 3DS also drew attention for its stereoscopic 3D and dual-screen gameplay.
The 3DS's stereoscopic 3D without glasses feature was a major talking point since its announcement. Utilizing this in ‘Revelations’ allowed for more realistic depictions of spatial depth and shadows in darkness, achieving immersive visuals unthinkable for a handheld console. The dual-screen operation, allowing players to check maps and items without interrupting gameplay, further highlighted the perfect synergy between the 3DS and BIOHAZARD.
Rediscovering the 3DS's High Rendering Power
The 3D depth and immersion, which never felt cramped even on the small screen, were truly impressive. The dual-screen display was a welcome new system for fans, allowing uninterrupted gameplay without losing focus.
The Ultra-Beautiful Graphics of “UE” for Home Consoles
The ‘Unveiled Edition’ for home consoles was also released. Graphics were re-adjusted in terms of model shapes and texture levels, resulting in an exceptionally beautiful finish.
File No.2: The Marine Virus “t-Abyss” Turns the Sea into Hell
In this installment, the virus “t-Abyss” is at the core of the incident. It's a hybrid of a newly discovered fish pathogen virus from deep-sea fish and the t-Virus, causing infected individuals to develop a unique, aquatic-like skin texture. The frequently appearing “Ooze” approaches slitheringly with unpredictable movements.
Ooze - With its soft, flexible body, it can easily move through narrow spaces like ducts, appearing suddenly. It seems to move through the ship while spraying bodily fluids.
Scagdead - A mutant form of Ooze. In addition to the human host's head, a separate head with a massive mouth develops.
File No.3 Depicts the deep bond between Chris and Jill
Jill searches the Queen Zenobia after learning of Chris's disappearance, but it was actually someone's trap. Chris, stranded in the snowy mountains with no contact, immediately heads for the ship upon learning of Jill's peril. Even in an unforgiving environment where no one can be trusted, they risk danger for each other, reaffirming the depth of their bond. The finale sees the dream team of Chris and Jill reunited! And this reunion also marked the prelude to the tragedy that unfolded in ‘5’.
COLUMN - Too Attractive a Zombie!? “Rachel Foley”
Rachel Foley, a formidable mid-game foe, is the end result of an FBC agent who infiltrated before Jill. Her moaning movements are terrifying, but it's also impossible to overlook that, being freshly infected, she retains her attractive pre-infection style. Rachel's infiltration scene was depicted in a pre-release trailer. While she dies immediately upon encountering her in the game, due to her popularity, she was added as a playable character in the Raid Mode of the Unveiled Edition.
Layered, profound. The threads spun now converge into one...?
BIOHAZARD 6, the latest numbered title, is currently the most recent episode in the series' timeline.
Even after Wesker's demise, bioterrorism continues to shroud the world in fear. Familiar protagonists like Leon, Chris, and Ada live out their lives in different locations, caught between ambitions and justice surrounding bioterrorism.
What's impressive is the masterful storytelling that weaves together a complex, intersecting narrative while changing protagonists, drawing players deeply into the unfolding tale.
It represents the latest point in the series' timeline and arguably the pinnacle of its visual and cinematic expression. System-wise, the enhanced co-op play, a hallmark of ‘5’, is also a major draw. The ability to control different partners via online or split-screen play, and the joy of pursuing the story together, truly shines within this grand narrative. The introduction of the compelling new character Jake is also unmissable.
His connection to Wesker, the series' ultimate mastermind, gradually unfolds. A new star's born, one we can expect to shine brightly in the future.
MAIN CHARACTER 1 - A direct-reporting agent assigned to protect the U.S. President who decided to make the Raccoon City incident public. However, a large-scale bioterror attack occurs on the very day of the announcement. He possesses a strong sense of justice and the mental fortitude to remain calm in any situation.
MAIN CHARACTER 2 - Lost his memory during the conflict in the Republic of Edonia six months prior. He vanished from the hospital where he was receiving treatment and spent his days drowning his sorrows in a bar in Eastern Europe. BSAA rookie agent Piers shows up to bring Chris back.
MAIN CHARACTER 3 - A young man who'd been living as a mercenary in the Republic of Edonia, an Eastern European nation in the throes of civil war. He excels in hand-to-hand combat and can even fight powerful creatures with his bare hands. When Sherry suddenly appears and tells him he's “the one who'll save the world,” he joins her cause.
MAIN CHARACTER 4 - A mysterious beauty who works behind the scenes throughout the series. She has connections to Simmons, the Assistant to the President of the United States, and her shadow looms large over the bioterrorist attack targeting the President. When the mystery of Ada's revealed, the story will likely come to a conclusion.
File No.1 The series' finest production shines! A cinematic experience to enjoy with friends
Four stories unfold, involving various organizations and perspectives surrounding bioterrorism and viruses. Eastern Europe, North America, China, and the North Atlantic... The stories, which intersect on a global scale, are skillfully connected through the series' traditional cinematic production, creating an experience akin to watching a high-quality four-part film series in one sitting.
Play as the series' core protagonists to uncover the mystery at the heart of the bioterror threat.
Realistic “darkness and light” evoke a new level of terror
A faint stirring in pitch-black darkness. The eerie sheen of illuminated Zombies. Lighting effects maximizing the graphical power of PS3 and Xbox 360 create the series' most intense atmosphere yet.
Follow the story with up to 4 players simultaneously via split-screen or online multiplayer
Leon and Helena, Chris and Piers, Jake and Sherry. Not only can you play with your partner, but at story-intersecting points, you can join the game with up to 4 players simultaneously.
Zombies are back! Defeat the more aggressive “old enemies”
The “hallmark of BIOHAZARD”, Zombies, largely absent from the spotlight in 4 and 5, return with significant power-ups. The C-Virus, documented in the Republic of Edonia, transforms humans exposed to its gas into Zombies while retaining some intelligence. It provides powerful physical enhancement, making their attack power and agility incomparable to previous iterations.
Underestimate them as “Slow Zombies” and you'll be counterattacked for sure!
Running and leaping attacks are standard. Zombies that even wield weapons are formidable foes unlike anything seen before.
Intelligent yet savage creatures with multiple eyes
Troublesome adversaries infected with the C-Virus that attack using weapons and vehicles. Their appearance is indistinguishable from ordinary humans, but multiple eerie eyes appear on their faces.
File No. 3: The “Endings” of Each Character. Will the Chain of Terror Be Broken?
In “6,” Leon and Chris, the series' representative characters, appear together for the first time. As the truth behind the Raccoon City sterilization operation in “3” and the ambitions of presidential advisor Simmons come to light, what awaits Ada, the woman who holds the key?
The latest installment in the main series: Escape from a remote island
This is the latest title in the series' 20-year history. Like its predecessor, Revelations, it's a game that pursues survival and terror in a closed space, under the banner of “returning to its roots”.
A distinctive feature's that it was sold in advance through online distribution known as “episodic delivery”. This experimental approach involved releasing new episodes weekly before the physical package version launched. The gameplay experience, driven by short episodes progressing simultaneously from the perspectives of two protagonists, represents a further evolution from the previous installment's standout mysterious presentation. This new trial captures the era of increasing online integration in gaming, filling the missing link between ‘5’ and ‘6’.
This marks the first time in 15 years since CODE:Veronica that players can control Claire in the main series. Scenes set on an isolated island and the opening sequence where Claire's imprisoned in a detention center pay homage to CODE:Veronica.
MAIN CHARACTER 1 - Survivor of the Raccoon City Incident, dedicated to eradicating bioterrorism
A 32-year-old veteran employee of the NGO TerraSave. Alongside new employee Moira, she's detained and imprisoned on a remote island. She and Moira are close friends, their families are also acquainted.
MAIN CHARACTER 2 - A gun expert who survived the Mansion Incident alongside Chris and others.
Claire's partner and Moira Burton's father, he's one of the survivors from the Mansion Incident in the first game. He ventures alone to the isolated island to rescue his missing daughter, where he encounters the mysterious girl Natalia. He's an expert with firearms.
File No.1: Real-time Tactical Action with Character Switching
Like ‘5’ and ‘6’, this game's tackled as a two-man cell with a partner. A major change is the ability to switch the controllable character at any time. While Claire and Barry remain the main combatants against enemies, strategically switching characters is necessary to utilize Moira and Natalia's item-finding abilities or to activate mechanisms.
Partner cooperation's an absolute necessity for survival
Natalia can detect enemy positions, and crouching extends her detection range. Utilizing these abilities makes overcoming difficult situations easier. Offline split-screen play's also possible.
The meticulous spatial design, stimulating even your sense of smell, sends chills down your spine
As the latest console entry in the BIOHAZARD series, which continually pushes hardware limits, the graphics are overwhelming. You can almost smell the blood and iron.
File No.2: One Who Bears the Name “Wesker,” Plotting Immortality Once More
Wesker's ambition seemed ended in ‘5’. Yet Alex (Overeer: The Watcher), who speaks to Claire and Moira through a mysterious bracelet, also bears the name Wesker. A cold-blooded individual who built a research facility on a remote island and used its inhabitants as test subjects. She researches the “metempsychosis ceremony” to transfer her mind and memories into others for eternal life, searching for a "vessel" to transfer her own body into.
The Afflicted, infected by “t-Phobos,” attack
The Afflicted, madmen who mercilessly attack living humans. Furthermore, creatures resembling animals and insects infected by the virus also appear.
File No.3 Another Main Story!? The Super-Rich Raid Mode
The mode from the previous game, Revelations, returns, now enhanced. As you progress through the game, your character's skills and arsenal strengthen, amplifying the exhilaration of taking down enemies! Of course, you can choose Jill, Leon, and Chris as playable characters, but also that Albert Wesker. Online co-op play's incredibly intense.
Enhance your skills and weapons to challenge “Red Queen A”
To defeat the enemies spawned by the combat simulator “Red Queen A,” created by a runaway AI, enhancing various skills and over 20 types of weapons is essential. Changing costumes is also fun.
OTHER TITLES

What's the newly unveiled South American mission, “Operation Javier”?
A survival gun shooting game serving as the sequel to ‘Umbrella Chronicles’. Leon heads on a mission after receiving intelligence that a former Umbrella researcher made contact with a man named Havie in a small South American nation. Krauser, who appeared in ‘4’, becomes his partner, and the story unfolds as a prequel to the events of ‘4’. The game also includes scenarios from ‘2’, which Leon experienced, and ‘CODE:Veronica’, allowing players to delve deeper into the BIOHAZARD narrative.
A “jump-out” survival action game featuring a mix of familiar characters
A standalone survival action game based on the bonus game "The Mercenaries" from biohazard 4. The system aims for high scores by efficiently defeating enemies within a set time limit, with combos extending the remaining time. It also gained attention for supporting co-op play with users worldwide via Wi-Fi. It's also fun to control characters like Wesker and Hank, who appear as enemies in the main BIOHAZARD titles.
Umbrella Corp. and U.S. elite forces clash in Raccoon City, now a living hell
Players take on the role of a member of the new Delta Team “Wolfpack,” part of Umbrella's special operations unit “U.S.S.”, tasked with a mission to erase all traces of Umbrella's involvement in the Raccoon City incident. A three-way gunfight erupts with the U.S. special forces “SPEC OPS” and ferocious Zombies. Online multiplayer battles for up to 8 players are supported, allowing you to enjoy combat under various rules. Tactics are diverse, such as sniping enemy soldiers, causing them to bleed out and attract zombie attacks.
The latest installment in the series will be released on May 12th 2016!
Fight your way through an Umbrella Corp. lab, the village where it all began, and more in this third-person shooter!
The year's 2015. Set two years after the unprecedented global bioterror attacks depicted in BIOHAZARD 6, this installment takes place in the latest era of the BIOHAZARD series. That game's UMBRELLA CORPS, scheduled for release on May 12. In this seemingly abnormal world where the threat of bioterrorism has become “commonplace,” the research legacies left by the Umbrella Corporation are treated as valuable assets, namely "infected" individuals and "viruses" themselves. Developing cures and biological weapons has become a massive, lucrative business pursued by corporations worldwide. Within the quarantine zones teeming with infected, soldiers dispatched by these corporations operate in the shadows. Fierce battles to outmaneuver rivals as well as illegal “Zombie hunting” are rampant. The protagonist of this installment's one such mercenary who, lured by an outrageous bounty, steps into Hell. Developed with a different concept from previous entries, UMBRELLA CORPS isn't a traditional "survival horror" but debuts as an online "competitive shooter." However, the presence of infected, including Zombies, introduces a new dynamic distinct from pure player-versus-player combat. Players must outmaneuver swarms of infected, strategically utilize them, and eliminate opposing players. This unique world demands unprecedented strategic thinking. Can you survive in this harsh, skill-based world?
Mercenaries vs. Mercenaries: Infected Hold the Key
“Illegal Combat in Infected Zones” Rely on allies, outmaneuver foes, and survive an era ravaged by bioterror!
File No.1: Set Zombies upon enemy players!
New strategies are limitless ∞, depending on your ideas.
UMBRELLA CORPS pushes the boundaries of strategy and control in competitive shooters, starting with its “analog cover” system, where the pressure on the trigger alone changes your degree of cover. The number of possible combat choices is virtually infinite, with groundbreaking controls directly reflecting player ideas. The presence of infected enemies is also crucial. Skillfully guide Zombies to attack enemy players, and you can turn the tide of battle even when at a disadvantage.
File No.2 Series-Famous Locations Appear as Stages
This installment features many locations connected to past games. Umbrella Corporation's research facility, TRICELL's shadow headquarters (the mastermind behind "5"), the "village where it all began" Leon visited in "4", and the African Kijuju Autonomous Zone Chris infiltrated in "5", all feature humans infected by the Plaga parasite, now armed and attacking.
File No.3: Utilize the "Zombies"! Focus on Special Equipment
In this installment demanding combat in unique environments against unique foes, firearms aren't your only equipment. You're equipped with special gear designed to minimize the impact of Zombies and effectively utilize them. Understanding these characteristics and mastering coordination with your partners is what'll let you survive in this world.
Zombie Spikes
Shoes specifically for the familiar “Creeping Zombies,” guaranteed to crush and destroy their heads when stepped on.
Zombie Jammer
Paralyzes Zombies' sensory centers with intense electromagnetic waves, effectively “blinding” them. Conversely, if an enemy attack destroys it...
Bait Shield
A “shield” countering infected biters. There's even a technique to deliberately let them bite you, turning the infected itself into a shield against gunfire!
Zombie Beil
A weapon specializing in the highly effective “spinal destruction” against infected, boasting outstanding destructive power. Like a mountaineering axe, it's also useful for traversing uneven terrain.

Progenitor Virus
A primitive plant documented in the African exploration chronicle “Natural History Compendia,” known as the “Stairway to the Sun” (later named the Progenitor Flower). Spencer and his team discovered a terrifying virus within this plant capable of mutating DNA. They sought to use it to create powerful new lifeforms based on existing organisms. However, endowing them with high intelligence and achieving control proved difficult, requiring a long time before they reached a level worthy of being called weapons. Incidentally, the publisher of this Natural History Compendia was Henry Travis of Travis Trading Enterprises, the predecessor to TRICELL.
The Stairway to the Sun was guarded by the Ndipaya tribe deep within an African ruin, but Spencer and his team seized it.
Umbrella
Provisionally a pharmaceutical company founded by the prestigious aristocrats Oswell E. Spencer and Edward Ashford, along with their school friend James Marcus, who sought to militarize the “Progenitor Virus.” Its ostensible business also succeeded, growing into a global conglomerate. It maintains bases worldwide and has organized the powerful mercenary unit "U.B.C.S. (Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service)" to prepare for any potential biohazard incidents.
It grew into a massive corporation wielding influence over everything from the economic sphere to police forces.
t-Virus
A foundational virus developed by combining the Progenitor Virus with leech DNA. Infected organisms exhibited significant increases in muscle strength, vitality, and regenerative abilities, as well as a tendency to grow larger. After this invention, Umbrella's development of biological weapons known as B.O.W.'s (Bio Organic Weapons) began in earnest, resulting in many failed experiments...
CODE:Veronica Project
A project conducted at the Antarctic Base by Alexander, son of Edward Ashford, who felt limited by his own virus research abilities. He successfully cloned two humans by extracting genes from the mummy of Veronica, the genius founder of the Ashford family. Although the brother Alfred was a disappointment, the birth of the sister Alexia, who could be called a super-genius, seemed to make the project a success...
Alexia, boasting astonishing intelligence and beauty, chose virus development over the prosperity of the family, and even made Alexander a test subject.
S.T.A.R.S.
Established within the Raccoon Police Department as part of the “Bright Raccoon 21 Project” planned by Raccoon City with Umbrella's assistance. It's a special forces unit that can operate independently from the city police and is equipped with pilots, combat professionals, medical and firearms experts to respond immediately to urban terrorism and diversifying organized crime. At the time of the Mansion incident, there were 13 members, divided into “Alpha” led by Albert Wesker and “Bravo” led by Enrico Marini, and operations were carried out in army-style five-man cells.
The headquarters on the second floor of the Raccoon Police Department displays photographs of the members who were present on that day.
Ecliptic Express Incident
A series of bizarre murders occurred in the Arklay Mountains outside Raccoon City, where people were “eaten alive”. The S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team was dispatched, but the helicopter carrying the team suddenly crashed. Near the scene, Billy Cowen, a death row inmate being transported, was suspected of escaping, and the Ecliptic Express, which had been stopped in the mountains, was discovered. Rebecca Chambers and Billy then restarted the train.
They boarded the departing train and arrived at the Umbrella Corporation's executive training facility. Waiting there was Marcus, who'd been swallowed by the Queen Worm.
Mansion Incident
Occurred around the same time as the Ecliptic Express Incident. The Alpha Team went searching for the Bravo Team and were attacked by Cerberus, but several members survived and fled to the mansion. However, this mansion was part of the Arklay Laboratory where Umbrella's B.O.W. experiments were conducted. Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton, and Bravo Team's Rebecca fought back against the B.O.W.'s and escaped the mansion, leaving the traitor Wesker behind. The mansion was destroyed by its self-destruct system.
The mansion, designed by George Trevor, was a lair of B.O.W.'s and intricate traps. Remaining documents revealed sinister truths.
G-Virus
A new virus created by William Birkin using Lisa Trevor, who'd become an immortal test subject. Unlike the t-Virus, it causes infected individuals to evolve into entirely different lifeforms. Furthermore, it possesses the ability to reproduce and resurrect the dead, exhibiting characteristics beyond human comprehension.
William attempted to defect to the U.S. government, but was killed in an ambush by Umbrella, who sought to monopolize the virus.
Raccoon Incident
After the Mansion Incident, Chris and his team act to expose Umbrella's crimes, but investigations in Raccoon City itself make no progress. Amidst this, rats infected with the virus invade the city, soon triggering a biohazard outbreak. Raccoon City suffers numerous casualties. Then, on October 1st, the city meets a shocking end.
The Raccoon City Police Chief obstructed investigation into Umbrella. His efforts proved futile, and this incident effectively led to Umbrella's collapse.
Deeming "citizen survival hopeless" due to viral contamination, the United States government decided on "sterilization" via a missile strike. Raccoon City vanished from the world, with casualties estimated at 100,000.
Rockfort Island Incident
A biohazard outbreak occurred on an island owned by the Ashford family, where the t-Virus spread. A similar phenomenon also occurred at Umbrella's Antarctic Base. Around the same time, Claire Redfield, who'd infiltrated Umbrella's Paris Laboratory, was captured and imprisoned on Rockfort Island. Claire joined forces with fellow inmate Steve Burnside and attempted to escape the island. Later, Claire reunited with her brother Chris and destroyed the Antarctic Base. The island was also destroyed by the activation of a self-destruct device.
The island contained training facilities, research labs, and Alfred's official and private residences reminiscent of a mansion. However, by the time Chris arrived, it had already been reduced to ruins following the explosion.
TRICELL
A conglomerate primarily focused on three divisions: shipping, resource development, and pharmaceuticals. Its origins trace back to Travis Trading Company, which began resource development in Africa based on the Natural History Compendia. After Umbrella's collapse, its pharmaceutical division gained global influence. It has been a sponsor of the BSAA since its founding, but its Africa branch president, Excella Gionne, has independently contacted Wesker.
Excella began research at the site where Umbrella's Progenitor Virus was discovered and has been instrumental in advancing Wesker's "Uroboros Project".
BSAA
A counter-bioterror unit established by the Pharmaceutical Industry Association, fearing public accountability after Umbrella's involvement in bioterrorism was exposed. Initially a private anti-biohazard unit, it comprised 11 members including Chris and Jill, both experienced in counter-terrorism. They were respectfully called the “Original Eleven” by their comrades. Originally a private organization, it was later reorganized as a public agency under United Nations jurisdiction. It was granted investigative authority, arrest powers, and the right to use force in various nations.
The BSAA emblem. Including headquarters, there are eight branches covering nearly the entire world, including Antarctica.
Los Iluminados Cult Incident
An incident triggered by the kidnapping of Ashley Graham, daughter of the President of the United States. The cult Los Iluminados, active primarily in remote European villages, used the parasitic organism Plaga, passed down since medieval times, to control villagers. Their goal was global domination. The cult's leader, Osmund Saddler, sought to demonstrate the cult's power to the world through an “innovative proselytizing method” that allowed him to control people at will by implanting Plaga. He targeted the United States as the first step.
Ashley, captured by Saddler's cult, was injected with Plaga eggs.
Plaga
A parasitic organism sealed beneath the castle ruled by the Salazar family, European lords. After infecting a human host, it grows while assimilating into the central nervous system, controlling the host's actions. Ultimately, the host becomes controlled by a different species of Plaga known as the dominant species. Humans infected by Plaga are called Ganados.
Ganados don't lose their intelligence and can still communicate verbally and use weapons.
FBC
The Federal Bioterrorism Commission established by the United States. Sharing the same principles as the BSAA, it cooperates with military units and police forces worldwide when bioterror incidents occur. During the Terragrigia Panic, Commissioner Morgan Landsdale made the decision to attack the city using the Regia SOLIS, resolving the incident and solidifying the FBC's authoritarian power.
Some point out the FBC's activities reflect American political intentions.
t-Abyss
A virus created by fusing The Abyss, a fish pathogen discovered in deep-sea fish, with the t-Virus. Infection causes cell membranes to absorb excessive moisture, turning the body white and swollen like a drowned corpse, becoming semi-liquid. It's a virus suitable for developing B.O.W.'s based on marine life genes.
Infected humans become deformed and endlessly seek out prey in search of moisture and nutrients.
Terragrigia Panic
A bioterrorist attack carried out by the internationally designated terrorist organization Veltro using the t-Abyss virus in the artificial floating city of Terragrigia. Although the FBC attempted to resolve the situation, the city was ultimately destroyed by irradiation from the solar energy collection system, Regia SOLIS.
Queen Zenobia Incident
An incident involving the t-Abyss virus that occurred on the luxury liner Queen Zenobia, which was supposed to have been scrapped. The ship was discovered after BSAA members went missing. During the search of the ship, it was revealed FBC Commissioner Morgan was involved in the Terragrigia Panic caused by the terrorist organization Veltro. Morgan was arrested after the incident was resolved. Many FBC personnel were absorbed into the BSAA, which was at the time a private organization.
Built in 1978, the Queen Zenobia captivated people with its 1930s-style interior.
Uroboros Project
A plan promoted by Wesker to create a new world using the Uroboros virus. The Uroboros virus, completed using TRICELL, was a perfect virus that eliminated the shortcomings of conventional viruses, such as excessive mutation and mental contamination. While humans who adapted gained superhuman abilities, those who did not suffered viral runaway, mutating into hideous monsters covered in black tentacles. They grew by consuming surrounding organic matter and indiscriminately attacked living beings. As the plan's final stage, Wesker detonated Uroboros Missiles aboard bombers at the tropopause, dispersing the virus worldwide via the jet stream. He sought to create a world where only those with truly superior genes, compatible with the virus, would survive.
Top/Bottom Right: The end result of humans infected with the Uroboros Virus. The black tentacles are cysts created by the virus and expelled from the body; they possess primitive intelligence. Bottom Left: The Uroboros Missiles used in the plan's final stage.
Oswell E. Spencer Murder Case
The incident where Spencer, one of Umbrella's founders, was murdered by Wesker. After Umbrella's defeat, Chris and Jill were dispatched to apprehend Spencer, who'd gone into hiding, only to encounter the murder scene. Wesker was a success story of the “Wesker Project”, a program to cultivate gifted children and select capable individuals, and could be considered a creation of Spencer. During their private conversation, Wesker learned of Spencer's goal to force human evolution through a virus. Declaring he'd inherit this ambition, Wesker mercilessly took Spencer's life.
Top: Spencer and Wesker's encounter. Bottom: Jill, who'd stormed in, fell into the valley with Wesker. She was presumed dead, but her survival was later confirmed.
Kijuju Autonomous Zone Incident
An incident occurring in Africa's Kijuju Autonomous Zone. TRICELL conducted final evaluation tests on its secretly developed modified Plaga Type 2. They engaged BSAA combatants to gather real-world combat data and advance further development.
Type 2 parasitizes humans through a forceful method: the infected directly pours the parasite into the mouths of ordinary people.
TerraSave
An NGO formed to aid victims of bioterrorism and pharmaceutical harm. Established after the Raccoon City incident, as incidents and cover-ups perpetrated by governments and corporations came to light, fueling demand for civilian oversight and relief measures. It possesses no military force, focusing primarily on humanitarian aid such as supplying materials to affected areas and dispatching medical teams.
It actively engages in promotional activities to emphasize its political neutrality.
C-Virus
A virus that mutates humans into B.O.W.'s called J'avo. Possessing intelligence and the ability to act in organized groups, they're used as a primary force in bioterrorism and have been sighted worldwide. They have extremely high body temperatures; excessive injury causes their bodies to burst into flames and die. However, they sometimes mutate into a chrysalis-like state covered in hard exoskeleton, undergoing further mutation internally. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that inhaling gas contaminated with the C-Virus induces symptoms highly similar to the t-Virus, leading to zombification.
Humans transformed into J'avo undergo a pupal stage before mutating into animal-like forms.
Tall Oaks Bioterror Incident
A bioterror attack occurred in Tall Oaks, where a speech by U.S. President Adam Benford was scheduled. The dispersal of C-Virus gas turned the entire area into a zombie infested zone, and the President, who intended to reveal the truth about the Raccoon City incident, also fell victim to the terror.
The virus infection began at Ivy University in Tall Oaks and spread rapidly.
The Raid Against TerraSave
An unknown special forces unit raided a party venue hosted by TerraSave. Staff forcibly transported to a detention facility on an isolated island were injected with the new t-Phobos virus, triggered by fear, and became subjects in an experiment conducted by a woman calling herself the Overseer. Her true identity was Alex Wesker, one of the successful subjects of the Wesker Project. She sought a “vessel” for the “metempsychosis ceremony,” which transplants personalities into others to gain eternal life.
The isolated island where the staff were taken. Most residents were either disposed of or had become creatures, wandering the land.
Neo Umbrella
A bioterrorist organization that took the name of the former pharmaceutical company Umbrella. Taking advantage of the conflict in the Republic of Edonia, they released the C-Virus to mercenaries. They collected data on humans who'd become J'avo. The leader of the organization called herself Ada Wong, but her true identity was Carla Radames, a researcher who'd been studying the C-Virus alongside the United States Presidential Advisor, Derek C. Simmons. While devoting herself to her research, Simmons was secretly advancing a plan to bring about the collapse of the world.
Carla, who was used as a test subject by Simmons, who was obsessed with Ada, came to look exactly like Ada.

A B.O.W. created by combining reptilian DNA with a human fertilized egg using the power of the t-Virus. Various improved versions appear in later series entries.
IRON MAIDEN
An improved variant of the Regenerador, born from experiments with the parasitic Plaga organism introduced in biohazard 4, specialized for attack by being equipped with countless needles.
CERBERUS
A B.O.W. (Bio Organic Weapon) created by injecting the t-Virus into a Doberman. One of the successful examples of B.O.W. development experiments.
DRAIN DEIMOS
A creature mutated when a type of flea fed on an organism infected with the t-Virus. Males can feminize to lay eggs and engage in reproductive activities.
LICKER
A creature mutated when a zombified human was further infested by the t-Virus. It lacks visual organs, but its hearing's abnormally developed as compensation.
ELIMINATOR
A B.O.W. developed based on large anthropoid apes. It can be considered a successful example of experimental t-Virus injection and influenced subsequent human-based B.O.W. development.
EL GIGANTE
A creature genetically engineered from Ganados, humans parasitized by the Plaga parasite, resulting in a creature four times larger. Its name means “giant” in Spanish.
IRONHEAD
Created from the most physically robust individuals among the Afflicted, who'd been injected with the t-Phobos virus triggered by fear. It wields massive weapons with ease.
OOZE
A creature infected with the new t-Abyss virus. Its body's partially liquefied, attempting to absorb the bodily fluids of its prey.

ANOTHER WORLD of BIOHAZARD
Unravel the history and appeal of the BIOHAZARD spin-off series, which has expanded its possibilities through various media while utilizing the worldview of the original game.
MOVIE
The first film, based on the worldview of the original game, with an original story.
The memorable first film in the BIOHAZARD movie series. The Hive, a secret underground research facility built deep beneath the earth by the giant corporation Umbrella. Here, research into biological weapons was being conducted in secret. However, the t-Virus being studied was released within the facility by an unknown party. To prevent the infection from spreading outside the facility, The Hive's main computer, “Red Queen,” automatically sealed off the research facility. A special forces unit dispatched for internal investigation discovers Alice (Milla Jovovich), suffering from amnesia, in a room of the mansion above ground. They infiltrate The Hive with her, only to find a horrifying scene brought about by the t-Virus... While based on the game series' world, including the Umbrella Corporation and the t-Virus, the film unfolds an original story. The protagonist, the original character Alice, is portrayed by Milla, a fan of the original games, delivering tough action.
While the main characters differ from the games, familiar creatures like Zombies and Cerberus appear. The Licker (left), the “licking creature” from the game BIOHAZARD 2, appears as a boss character attacking Alice!
COLUMN
Blooming as an “action heroine”! A signature work for Milla Jovovich
BIOHAZARD can be said to have opened a new stage in Milla Jovovich's career as an actress. Influenced by her game-loving brother, Milla became a BIOHAZARD fan and eagerly sought the role as soon as the film adaptation was announced. Landing the lead role of Alice, she passionately portrayed this original movie character with nearly stunt-free action. She reportedly had all the scars on her body for the role. Her signature “red dress and boots” look became an iconic symbol of Milla. The massive success of this film made BIOHAZARD her signature franchise, continuing as a blockbuster series.
Jill, the protagonist from game versions 1 and 3, appears! The biohazard outbreak spreads across the entire city!
This sequel was released two years after the blockbuster first film. Two days after the biohazard outbreak at Umbrella Corporation's underground secret research facility, the Hive. Raccoon City above ground was overrun by Zombies infected with the t-Virus, transformed into a city of the dead. Meanwhile, Alice, a survivor from the Hive, reunites with Jill (Shannyn Sossack), formerly of the special forces unit “S.T.A.R.S.”, and others to search for Dr. Ashford, the inventor of the t-Virus. However, Umbrella Corporation, attempting to cover up the incident, seals off Raccoon City and plans to blow up the entire city. Alice and her allies fight countless Zombies while trying to escape, but the biological weapon Nemesis, developed by Umbrella, stands in their way. This installment features Jill, the protagonist from the game versions of ‘1’ and ‘3’. Shifting the setting from the underground lab of the previous film to the entire city, Alice, who has been injected with the t-Virus and gained superhuman physical abilities, engages in battles with increased scale.
The boss, Nemesis (left), wields a rocket launcher and gatling gun. Additionally, Jill (above), played by Sienna Guillory, was a perfect fit for the role, including her appearance, satisfying fans of the original games.
Battle the Tyrant, one of BIOHAZARD's iconic foes, in the desolate desert wasteland of Las Vegas!
Set eight years after the events of BIOHAZARD II Apocalypse this third installment takes place in a Las Vegas reduced to a desert wasteland by man-made disaster. The rampant t-Virus has contaminated humans, animals, and even nature itself, creating a world overrun by countless Zombies and desolate landscapes. While Alice continued her wandering journey evading surveillance satellites, Dr. Isaacs of Umbrella's North American branch schemed to create an anti-undead serum from Alice's DNA. Meanwhile, a group led by Claire (Ali Larter) was attacked by crows infected with the secondary virus at their motel base and was saved by Alice, leading them to join forces. Alice and her companions set their sights on the promised land of Alaska, but to reach it, they must inevitably confront Dr. Isaacs. They plunge into The Hive, the very source of the tragedy... Joining the fray are Claire, a key character from the games, and the Tyrant, one of BIOHAZARD's iconic creatures, as the decisive battle for humanity's survival unfolds.
The Tyrant (left), appearing as a boss, is depicted as even more hideous than the game version, pursuing Alice with his resilient body that regenerates and strengthens even when wounded, and his freely extendable tentacles!
Shibuya, Alaska, Los Angeles... The series' first 3D film depicts epic battles!
Paul W.S. Anderson, who directed the first film, returns to direct the fourth installment. Umbrella Corporation has built a massive underground fortress beneath Shibuya, Tokyo, where they conduct research and experiments on the t-Virus under the orders of the mastermind, Wesker (Sean Roberts). Meanwhile, Alice searches for survivors and a place of refuge. She succeeds in destroying the underground fortress where her clones and Wesker are located, but Wesker, who managed to escape, injects her with a serum, causing her to lose her special abilities. After reuniting with Claire in Alaska, Alice heads to Los Angeles in search of survivors and finds them on the roof of a prison overrun by countless Zombies. There, she learns the true nature of the safe haven known as “Arcadia”. The first full 3D installment in the series, achieving a sense of spatial depth. The opening scene in Shibuya also drew attention for featuring singer Mika Nakashima in a special appearance as the first infected individual.
Wesker (left), widely regarded as the strongest character in the BIOHAZARD games, makes his full-fledged debut. Wentworth Miller portrays Chris (top), another familiar major character from the games.
A mystery-filled story where allies and enemies intertwine! Alice's past and the existence of the mastermind are revealed!
The fifth installment, following the previous film's use of 3D visuals, unravels Alice's past and new truths. Alice survives her deadly battle with Wesker, only to be ambushed by a combat unit led by Jill, once her ally. Jill had been captured and tortured by Umbrella Corporation, then brainwashed by the Red Queen after a spider-like device was implanted in her chest. After a fierce battle, Alice loses consciousness. When she wakes, she finds herself in a mysterious experimental facility. She attempts to escape, only to discover she's been transported to devastated cities like Tokyo, New York, and Moscow... That experimental facility concealed a shocking secret capable of overturning the world and the existence of the ultimate mastermind. Jill, who fought alongside Alice in the second film, reappears as an antagonist, attacking Alice alongside creatures like the Licker and the Executioner Majini. Mika Nakashima, who made a special appearance in the previous film, now plays a significant role, including a battle scene with Milla.
The story unfolds with layer upon layer of mystery: Jill (left), once an ally, becomes an enemy, while Wesker, who should be the enemy, sends former Umbrella operatives to rescue Alice.
