The t-virus (short for "Tyrant Virus") was a highly adaptable bioweapons-grade pathogen and the main component for the Umbrella Corporation in their biological weapons development program, created from an attempt to weaponize the Progenitor virus for military use and application. The t-virus became the basis for the majority of Umbrella's research. It inherits the genetic modifying properties of the Progenitor virus and drastically improves on them. The very first strain of the t-virus was created by Dr. James Marcus.

Leon Scott Kennedy was an agent for the U.S. Government and a former police officer assigned to Raccoon City. Upon arriving into Raccoon City on his first day as a police officer, he became entangled in the biohazard caused by the t-virus and the illegal activities of its creator, the Umbrella Corporation. After surviving the incident, he was scouted by a U.S. intelligence agent named Adam Benford and recruited into a secret military agency under the direct control of the U.S.

TerraSave is a non-profit NGO whose mission is to come to the aid of victims of bioterrorism or medication-related health disasters. Claire Redfield, a survivor of both Raccoon City and Rockfort Island, joined this organization in 1998.

History

Formed immediately following the Raccoon City tragedy, the majority of TerraSave's protest activities were conducted either in the form of demonstrations or on the home page of its website.

The DSO (Division of Security Operations) was a top-secret U.S. Government military intelligence agency established in 1998 under the direct control of the U.S. President. Its primary mission was to gather information about biowarfare weapons and to produce effective countermeasures, as there was a very real threat of deadly biological weapons going out of control. It became deeply involved in the resolution of a number of incidents around the world.

Claire Redfield was a college student and younger sister of former S.T.A.R.S. member Chris Redfield who was proud of her brother's work. She became involved in her brother's fight against the Umbrella Corporation during the Raccoon City Incident. Before September 1998, she was a regular college girl. She had a passion for motorcycles and was highly devoted to her older brother.
