The t-virus (short for "Tyrant Virus") was a highly adaptable bioweapons-grade pathogen and the main component for the Umbrella Corporation in their biological weapons development program, created from an attempt to weaponize the Progenitor virus for military use and application. The t-virus became the basis for the majority of Umbrella's research. It inherits the genetic modifying properties of the Progenitor virus and drastically improves on them. The very first strain of the t-virus was created by Dr. James Marcus.

Leon Scott Kennedy was an agent for the U.S. Government and a former police officer assigned to Raccoon City. Upon arriving into Raccoon City on his first day as a police officer, he became entangled in the biohazard caused by the t-virus and the illegal activities of its creator, the Umbrella Corporation. After surviving the incident, he was scouted by a U.S. intelligence agent named Adam Benford and recruited into a secret military agency under the direct control of the U.S.

BIOHAZARD GUN SURVIVOR (Resident Evil Survivor), originally known as "BIOHAZARD GUN SURVIVOR behind the mask" was the first Biohazard game designed with the PlayStation light-gun peripheral "GunCon45" in mind. It makes a radical change from the traditional third-person perspective seen in all games previous to the first-person perspective. Despite not being an on-the-rails shooter, the game does use Namco's GunCon lightgun making the game fairly unique in the gaming world. The game is set on the isolated Sheena Island just after the destruction of Raccoon City, and follows Ark Thompson's quest to regain his memory and fight off Umbrella B.O.W.
