Haha I'm just curious (and quite bored) and so just wondering, what is everyone's favourite pairing/couple in the Resident Evil Series?

Hmmm, I guess I like Leon & Angela Miller together or Leon and Claire. ^^ What about you guys? Smile

Leon and Ada all the way. Those two have some serious stress to work out in some coatroom ^^

I think that wins for best pairing and most obscure reference as well.

Leon/Ada or Billy/Rebecca.

They're simply the most interesting together and have the best chemistry, IMO.

Leon/Ada for sure, and agreed aout the coatroom. They'll be in there, working things out for quite awhile. XD I haven't played Zero yet, but Billy/Rebecca looks promising in terms of a fresh dynamic.

As for Jill/Ada, though, I'm curious who ends up on top. Bets, anyone? XD

I'm pretty sure Ada would dominate that one.

It's not impossible to think that Jill might win, though.

She's just the underdog.

I've never really understood the concept of 'shipping among fans of any property, but to each their own.  Maybe it's just because I'm a guy, or maybe it's because Capcom doesn't really seem interested in pursuing that type of thing with its characters.  I recall a fan even going so far as to ask Jun Takeuchi why Chris and Jill didn't hook up at the end of RE5, and he basically said that there doesn't always have to be a romantic connection between two characters, even if they are very close and have known each other forever.  I, personally, agree with that, but again, it might just be because I'm a guy.

I even remember when the first real trailer for Degeneration (not the teaser that was on the Extinction dvd) was debuted at, I think, Comic Con, and there was a fan in the audience who apparently got really upset that Claire winked at Leon and so asked Hiroyuki Kobayashi "what about Ada?", referencing Leon's comment to Ashley at the end of RE4 that she "was like a part of him he couldn't let go."  I think Kobayashi was, rightfully so, pretty dumbfounded at the question.  I wasn't there personally, so I can't say for certain, but a friend told me his answer was essentially that just because Leon said that about Ada doesn't mean he can't like or, God forbid, date other characters.  The irony of it all, of course, was the fact that it was Claire who winked at Leon, not the other way around.  Some fans really frighten me, but I digress.

Moving back to the topic of this thread, but following from what Takeuchi said, none of the characters in Resident Evil ever really struck me as the types to settle down with someone.  Well, none of the main characters who we've seen return over the years, anyway (so I'm excluding characters like Rebecca, Billy, Carlos, Steve, etc, from this analysis).  Not because I think they have commitment issues or anything like that, but rather because they all come across as being so devoted to their individual causes that they simply wouldn't have time to actually pursue a real relationship.  Or even if they did have the time, they just wouldn't bother, because, with the possible exception of Claire, all live lives that aren't exactly conducive to building a healthy relationship with someone.

They might flirt, even go out on a date or two, or maybe have a one night stand with some random person, but I just don't really see any of the characters settling down.  It's not exactly the most pressing concern on their plates at the moment, even with the likes of Umbrella and Wesker gone.  As for a case such as Leon and Ada, I highly doubt anything deeper than what we saw in Resident Evil 4 would ever evolve between the two of them.  Leon thought she worked for Wesker, and she wasn't in any hurry to tell him otherwise.  And even with Wesker gone, as far as we know Ada still works for The Organization, which isn't exactly "on the side of angels," as the saying goes.

Besides, Leon always struck me as the kind of character who was more concerned with "the mission" than any personal connections or relationships he might have.  His job took precedence.

i love claire too!

well archelon, dont give such a hard time on the characters life, as a matter effect, i agree, but while some of them just like each other,  some of them really have some real romantic feelings

For R.E 4  Ashley / Leon  was a cool example (unfortunately, just by ashley side {#emotions_dlg.confused})

But seriously considering the R.E main history, Leon/Claire

(Chris as brother in law????? he will try to kill Leon)

If you read Archives, it says that he was broken-hearted over his girlfriend dumping him and thats why he got drunk and overslept. Then he went and fell in love with Ada, so I actually think he might fall in love too easily.,.. Then again, is Archives accurate? He didn't seem to have a hangover in Resi 2... imagine that haha.

Btw, my favourite couple is the Belle sisters...

Yeah, but when I read about that, Ada seemed more like the "rebound" than an actual love interest.  And besides, I always had a hard time believing anyone could genuinely fall in love with someone after only knowing them for just a few hours (this goes for Claire and Steve, as well, but I think Steve was just a horny teenager who mistook those "feelings" for love).  But whatever, it is Capcom we're talking about here.

Genuine married-couple type love? Absolutely not. But I think there's definitely romantic feelings between Leon and Ada that need to be worked out for te story to feel 'complete'. For the reference, that doesn't mean a happily ever after or even being together, it just means some kind of resolution.

Honestly, I don't really ship Chris and Jill, they seem more like partners to me. I also don't think Claire really liked Steve back, but even so, she's going to be messed up for a bit because of it.

As for the 'shipping' thing, I'm honestly interested in any deep interaction between characters because I'm an author. But honesty... no one writes Claire-Leon friendship or Redfield silbing bonding. I'd love to read stuff like that, except it isn't really out there.

The fan was probably refering more to the idea "Why are you, as an author, starting another romanic bond when you've already established strong feelings for anoher character?" The vast majority of the time, things like this end as a pointless waste of screentime (see House, M.D. for prime examples) and rarely estalish any real growth. Though I do think that the fan overreacted-- it's not out of Claire's character to wink at anyone.

Again, I'm not saying Leon and Ada are getting married and having babies. That is so ridiculouslly OOC for both of them and for the series that it's insane.

As for his job taking precidence.... Leon has always been motivated by people. Recall how many times he stops whatever he's doing to run after Ada or Sherry in RE2. Obviously, he's changed a great deal since then, but the basic psychological process remains.

And you can't tell me he's more dedicated to his job than Ada is, who clearly ditches her mission to go save his life in Seperate Ways.

I try my best not to psychoanalyze the characters in a series like Resident Evil too much, because, frankly, there isn't a whole lot there to analyze.  However, I will say that, even in those instances you mentioned, his job was, in a sense, taking precedence, because, as a cop, it was his job to protect Ada and Sherry.  He even says as much himself.  It might be in his nature to help others, and that's why he became a cop in the first place, but it's the job that drives him.

I'm not sure you worded this quite how you intended, because the fact that Ada ditched her mission to help Leon does in fact show that Leon, at least technically speaking, is more dedicated to his mission than she is to hers.  He certainly never goes out of his way to help her.  I don't think cutting her down really counts.  It's certainly not on the same level as Ada directly disobeying orders from Wesker and preventing Krauser from assassinating Leon.

Well, let's remember one fact:  he only is a special agent for Sherry Birkin safety (Attending to U.S terrorist demands) if he was going to choose, he would like something like some dates with Claire in Paris, not some tentacles weird action in some weird village in Spain.

Except he was the one who told Claire to go off searching for her brother.  If he wanted, he probably could have gone with her to Paris.  All he'd have to do would be to ask Claire to wait until he and Sherry received medical attention, which I'm sure she would have been willing to do, since Leon had to yell at her to get her to leave.

Do we have any idea why he sent her off?  It seemed like they had some kind of argument from the Epilogue, but it never comes up again.  I doubt it had to do specifically with Leon becoming a government agent, because the image in the epilogue suggests they're still in the middle of nowhere, outside Raccoon City.

I always figured it was simply because Claire wouldn't leave to search for Chris unless Leon made it look like he didn't want her around.  Or that he and Sherry didn't need her.  Something along those lines.  Now, why Leon thought she had to leave at that very moment to go look for Chris is anyone's guess.  Maybe he was afraid the longer she stayed with them the more she might feel like she had to stay back to take care of Sherry?  Who knows.
