So, who is the better voice actor for Wesker, D.C. Douglas or Richard Waugh? I am holding this little poll because I've seen so many opinions on sites like YouTube and Wikia, but wish to see what our great PU community thinks. I am still unable to answer the difficult question myself...

I know this isn't going to be a popular choice, but I like D.C. Douglas better.

Also, are you aware that you posted this three times?

Yes, I am aware. My sincerest apologies, as my Internet was going slow at one point and I accidentally sent it three times by pressing submit impatiently. I sent a message to Chimera, but if he isn't able to rectify this error, perhaps you could? That is, if you have that power on here.

Personally, Peter Jessop has always been my favorite Wesker VA.

I used to like Waugh, but D.C. Douglas showed his true colors in RE5.

The dude from the original PS1 game was always quite good I thought, Waugh is excellent, didn't like REmake Wesker, but as Welsh says DC Douglas after a shakey start in UC was great in RE5.

This topic's been moved.

Thanks Neptune, for fixing my error. And I've read that Waugh's approach to the role inspired others who played Wesker a good deal, so I regard him as the beginning of the character's badass reign; however, Douglas' adaptation has certainly stolen the show and made him superior, so I'm with Douglas.

I prefer DC Douglas, personally. I just like the way he sounds, and he infused more emotion in Wesker than any of the other incarnations.

I recently spoke with DC Douglas and he had this to say,

Quote:
Q. I noticed a message at the-horror.com where you responded to criticism about your voice over in Umbrella Chronicles. I think you did a wonderful job. How do you feel about fans constantly comparing you to Richard Waugh?

A. Oh, I don't blame them. I was a big fan of the first Darren on Bewitched. But I eventually warmed to Dick Sargeant, as well (did I just date myself?). I will say that the voice work on Umbrella is different. First, they wanted me to match Peter Jessop, not Waugh. Secondly, different people were making creative decisions on that one, so I had to go with the flow that they liked. When I'm hired to do a job, it's my duty to make the producers happy with my performance, regardless of what I agree with or feel could be different. If I had my druthers, I'd start from scratch. But one can't do that coming into such a hugely popular series like RE. I think I responded to that post because they were saying I was hired over Waugh because they wanted non-union. Well, anyone who looks me up on IMDB will see I've been in plenty of union gigs and, in fact, have been SAG since 1989. (Is that the post you're talking about?) Maybe I responded because I was drunk and trolling the internet... I do have a darkside... Just kidding. I sleep when I'm drunk.

I have to go with Douglas. I really liked Waugh, and I had the pleasure of talking to him on the phone for all of six seconds when a friend of mine met him at a convention and got him to call me. (He did this for a ton of people at the convention, leaving their friends voicemails or recording a voicemail greeting for their phone) so he seems like he's a really cool guy when you meet him in person.

But as far as I'm concerned, Douglas is more entertaining to listen to. And that's kind of the key thing with a voice actor. I will always respect what Waugh did for the role, because he really set the bar and helped bring Wesker to life as a supervillain, so to speak, but I think everything Waugh did, Douglas does and has expanded on to make Wesker sound more realistic and colorful.

And between the two of them, I think Douglas has a much better laugh for the character.

Everybody I've ever met who has bashed Douglas has been a Waugh fanboy or fangirl, so I honestly think that's where most of the bashing comes from - people who aren't willing to move on because they're just too attached to a particular actor.

Oh, I think D.C Douglas's rendition of Wesker is just *perfect* for the character. Seriously, it just screams "I'm a magnificent bastard.", as well it should. The laugh too, as was mention, is just TOO GOOD.

And he makes Wesker's voice ooze sex appeal.Cool

Hahaha I guess I'd agree since Waugh's version sounds more like an old man. And the laugh was much better; those performances in Assignment: Ada and CVX were more amusing than intimidating.

Exactly. I don't want campy, B-horror villian. I want charismatic, chessmaster behind-the-scenes anti-villian. And I want him to sound the part.

No lie, I got chills when I heard Wesker's one line in Darkside Chronicles. CHILLS. That's how it should be.
