If you don't speak Japanese, and you're relying heavily on translation software, how sure can we be about the accuracy of these translations?  I ask because this site's policy is to rely on the Japanese version of a file where there is a significant discrepancy between the original and the English version.  As you know, this happens quite frequently, so it's important that we're sure.

Below is one translation I didn't need help with. You can have someone verify its accuracy, if you wish?

MARVIN’S REPORT

-Report-
September 24
A theft occurred at the City Hall before dawn today. The design was deprived of two of the twelve jewels embedded  in the dial of the jewel-laden clock at the main gate that received damage. Currently, Raccoon City is under martial law and there has already been many police officers who have died on duty. Therefore I will be suspending the investigation of this case.

Reporter  Marvin Branagh

-Report-
September 26

Today at approximately 10 a.m., it was revealed by autopsy that a 42-year-old male (restaurant manager) who took shelter in the station was found in possession of one of the jewels stolen at the City Hall on the 24th of this month. (The man was shot to death due to onset of disease several ten minutes‘ later) I will be suspending the investigation of this case due to martial law, but have decided to store the jewel in the station for a short while as evidence.

HUNK was the last known survivor of his special forces team. There're files hidden that did not mentioned in his report. The sample wasn't the only item he got in his hand....

In which game?

It's an extra file, which I translated from the Bio 2 beta.

How does it fit in with the rest of the Sewer Manager's Fax.  Is it an entirely different version, or is this just an add-on at the end?

You forgot to correct this line between the T-103 and the T-103 (Mass Production Type) again on the updated chart. The pictures you guys added are a nice touch, and I like the white background a little more than the pinkish hue it was before.

Keep up the good work, your translations are very interesting.

It seems to be an extra page that was removed from the actual game.

Guys, I found something interesting.Just took a look at the time line in the DSC artbook, when the USS is mentioned, it says:

Quote:
In the game, 3 teams were confirmed, they are  the Alpha, Bravo, and Delta Team

And here is the translation of  a quote from the OB2 file "Written Orders" Japanese version :

Quote:
The ringleader is captain Rodriguez from U.S.S. 2nd Team, and his authority has been stripped since 00 o'clock today.

Forgive me for not translating it fully.

So, I guess now we can say the U.S.S. bravo team does exist, and  Rodriguez is the commander of it. You guys may have known this, but still I think I should post it for sharing. -)

Hmm, isn't Bravo team in RE2? I don't think its explicitly stated as Bravo team, but I think they're the ones who stayed in the sewers while HUNK's Alpha team went into the lab.

I hope I'm wrong though, I would enjoy it very much if Bravo team was a second squad sent to Raccoon City after Alpha team's failure. And its nice to have some confirmation that Delta team in Zero was part of the Umbrella Security Service after all.

Honestly, I've never heard of USS Bravo team until I saw that timeline. I went to google it, nothing found. But after I checked the Japanese files, then I found what the "bravo team" refers to. Dunno whether the ones in the sewers belong to the different team with HUNK, that is never confirmed as I know. However, at least the artbook tells us U.S.S. has 3 confirmed teams, that's good enough for me. -)

BTW, there may be more never-mentioned information in the artbook, I'll be ready to post them to share when I found something.

Hunk was the leader of Alpha team. In the uncut script, Bravo team secured Annette. Delta team was attacked and killed by leeches.

Would make sense if there were two teams all along. Hunk's mission was over and done with by September 30th with him evacuated from town. Rodriguez is still hanging around on October 1st, which would indicate his unit was seperate.

Ah I get it , and the Bravo team in that script was removed in the final game, so most of us never knew it.

Haven't read the uncut script, nice info Welsh, thanks!

Just on this topic do we have a date from the Jap files when this happened? When did Hunk retrieve G, and the infection spread throughout Raccoon? I've heard the 20th, 22nd, 23rd!

23rd.

HUNKs team began their mission on the 20th.

What takes them so long?  Are they traversing the sewers all the way from the Raccoon City limits?

Recon I guess. Remember the RE2 patrol report where Officer Neil Carlsen chases off an individual from the sewers on Sep 20th evening? That was a member of Hunk's team scoping out the area.

They probably laid low in the sewers, taking note of how many personnel are moving to and from the lab, what security measures etc, and then weighing up the best time to breach.

There's something else that just occurred to me.  What was HUNK's team doing with C4?  Was it just in case they had to blast open some doors at the lab?  Did they intend to cave in the sewers behind them to prevent pursuit?  That might have caused some concern in Raccoon, which was not yet overrun at that time.

Judgin' therefore by Irons' diary entry also the 23rd, Hunks mission was in all likeliness be in the early hours of the 23rd?

In the Oubtreak intro, you can see that HUNK's team has moved a toilet in a restroom and blown a hole in the floor to gain entry to the sewer. My theory is that the restroom is some unexplored areas of Birkin's lab, and that on the 19th one of the men was in the sewer to plant the C4 that would be used to get them in and out of the lab undetected. Chances are the guy got spotted entering the sewer, and Carlsen was on the scene before he got close enough to plant the C4. In his haste to escape, he dropped it along with some of his other supplies.

Not likely. I think the op started on the 20th, after the botched attempt to plant the C4 on the 19th, and Irons simply didn't find out about it for a few days. Obviously, it would take a couple of days at least after the T-Virus spill for enough zombies to show up in the city that Irons would come to the conclusion that Umbrella had goofed something up.

Well this is why I asked, I think before the Japanese translation emerged the general concensus was that it took place on the 22nd. Paul, have you got a copy of the translation that shows the 23rd?

I might as well let it slip. Newsbot sent me a 4-page scenario analysis of the timeline from the Bio2 official guide book. So far, it has explained almost every mystery regarding the events of Resident Evil 2.

On the topic of the outbreak, here's a translation:

Quote:
23 (WED) Umbrella ruins Raccoon City. <Chief’s Note>
→ The chief has received this report from Umbrella HQ, rather than from William. In addition,  from the fact that Umbrella special forces made a preliminary inspection of the sewers on the 20th, it is not certain whether William was attacked on the 20th or 23rd. Moreover, there is a large scale leak of T-Virus at the same time that leads to this tragedy of Raccoon City.

However, the bio3 booklet seems to confirm the 23rd.

Quote:
September 23
A large quantity of T-Virus leaks and the tragedy of Raccoon City begins.

And a preview:

Quote:
10 (SUN) The chief purchases a painting of a hanged nude woman. <Secretary’s Diary A>
→ At this time, it seems the painting that the chief purchased is “Sacrifice of Hell Fire”. In addition, there are “NO SMOKING” signs in various places in the station for fear of seeing through the trick shown in this painting.
15 (TUE) A code G human administration experiment is performed in the laboratory. <Photo A>
→ The leak of this classified photo supports the existence of spies whom Umbrella executives had sent.
29 (TUE) There are three survivors in the station, including Marvin (the chief, excluding the mayor’s daughter). <Event in the police station>

This is probably the most exciting thing I've worked on. I'm pushing a release date for next week.

Fantasic, can't wait. The timeline in the DSC art book seems to confirm the 23/09 as the date of Hunk's mission also. I like the No smoking signs reference. Its a nice touch when they try to explain some of the puzzles and make them part of the plot.

Great work Welsh, looking forward to the release. May I ask, will the translation and the opinion parts of the article be explicity separated? For example, what's translation work and what's personal thoughts on your last post?

Wow, nice job Welsh, I can't wait to see it.

About Hunk, I just don't get why he spends so many time in the sewers, I mean... If he retrieves the G-virus sample on 23rd, why he is still there on 30th...? Sigh.

I've come to the conclusion that he was convalescing somewhere - perhaps in a sewer worker's office similar to the ones Leon and Claire pass through.

Absolutely superb stuff guys, thanks for making this available. It throws so much light on the more intriguing & grey areas during the events of Resident Evil 2 ~ maybe some of these 'new' entries will tie up nicely with the N64 Ex-files ?

Well, the Zero guide book confirms that Marcus attacked the mansion and Rebecca kept her word in the end to set Billy free.

Forgive my intrusion, but I have one question. The term that you posted, "爆投", don't return any results in Google translator, but if I insert a space between the two characters ["爆 投"], google returns "throw bomb" as result, what could be adapted to "bombing", I guess. I had make some translations from japanese site texts in the past, but I never obtained more than 60% accuracy on it.

The insertion of a space between the characters changes completely it's meaning?
