Titled as Resident Evil: Raccoon City, as rumoured beforehand, the game places you on opposite sides of the spectrum as members of the Umbrella Security Services Squad rather than BSAA.
Unlike the latter, where you just take out zombies, gunning for Umbrella is all about destroying evidence and killing T-Virus survivors from the 1998 Raccoon City outbreak.
There are two other factions to make a “three corner conflict” according to Capcom: US spec ops and bio-organic monsters created by Umbrella.
Your team is made up of four members: Vector, Beltway, Bertha, and Spectre. Depending on who you pick to play as, its goals and aims will vary.
The magazine adds that “you’ll be facing Umbrella-created horrors in between skirmishes” with each faction. It also says the game will allow you to “change the history of Resident Evil,” with many characters from the series making appearances. You’ll also be allowed to kill them.
The reports says that it’ll be coming to 360 and PS3 later this fall.
More details below:

YES! I hope you will be able to play as the spec-ops and the monsters. That would be SWEET!

Filing this one under "not sure if want" for the time being.
It's quite exciting to return to Raccoon city, and a little sad if a pure shooting game would come to this franchise. To be honest I'm not very optimistic to this title but may be we can find more fun from the 4-player cooperation mode. Despite the game-play, I hope the background files can be preserved, through which will make the whole story line more complete. Well, at least we got a new title on the way, good news anyway. Thanks for sharing!
No more shooting craps to RE please.
I'm really not sure about this not neccessarily the gameplay aspects - heck survival horror on Resi died out years ago, I'm thinking in terms of storyline and canonicty. It's all well and good having this USS team, but I want it canon, I want to know how these members fits in with the USS already in existance and the ones we know.
Will it fall in to the Outbreak style of canon, and if there's multiple endings and braching storyline how will we know which is right. I mean it's only taken until now until RE2 story is sorted out!
I like the idea of different factions as there is a lot in Raccoon. We have USS, RPD, US Army (Dead Factory etc.) and UBCS. They too will need eradicating as survivors.
My overall hope is that we get more of Umbrella's heirachy and who was ordering who. I want Henri, and would it be too far to have a cameo from perhaps the UT Commander, different unit for sure, but related? Certainly.
I wait with baited breathe and look forward to more details.

Well, this came a bit outta left field, I guess. It sounds like a fun game on paper, but I'm not sure about its aspects. I hope some of it is canon and we can learn more about Umbrella's part in Raccon City as it got destroyed.
But it is something to keep an eye out for, if anything, we won't find Plagas on this game!

The reason I am excited for this game is, I love FPS games, and I love SOCOM. I have always wanted a proper RE FPS. (not that survivor was bad, but the gameplay could have been friendlier) Plus, we get zombies. The storyline is probably not going to be that complex, it is probably going to be in a similar format to the other SOCOM games, maybe blend in with a little RE. But I love how you can kill canon characters. I don't care for canonocity, I just want a fun game. Albeit, I want them to make a main series game soon, but I like a little pointless shooting.

I havn't got high hopes for this, since RE has now thrown the whole survival horror out the window. Maybe they will prove me wrong but I doubt it.
More mindless shooting.......no survival horror.....even more canon destroying than UC & DSC........what is the point anymore......zzzzzzzzz

The concept is really interesting but sounds too much like a Left 4 Dead clone. I hope we can at least see more of the UBCS and maybe even the Dead Factory battle.

Resident Evil has traveled so far from its roots. They need to reestablish the series reputation before they kill it. Bring the original games to the next gen without plot changes or "history changes" the continuity is at stake and I'm angry. And it would take more than bullets to kill Chris Redfield or Leon, cmon now people. Let's go back to the mansion.
Lick This!!!
Unfortunately, the existence of the Dead Rising series suggests to me that Capcom is never going to bring good old-fashioned zombies back to RE.
However, Dead Rising is pretty light on horror. If there's a demand for it, we might see RE get some of its atmosphere back one day.

Hmm...Both interesting and non-interesting at the same time.
Will have to watch.
I wonder how many of you guys realizes that CAPCOM gave the survival horror a solid shove away with the release of Resident Evil 3 Nemesis. Take a look at that game. Plentiful ammo and healing items even on harder difficulty, and it's still an action based game. It's not survival horror in the slightest.
Survivor, and Dead Aim pretty much kept the action > survival aspect too. CV was sort of survival horror, but not on par with RE1 or RE2. Outbreak was the first return to survival horror, and like the backstory or not those were terribly executed games in terms of actual design and gameplay.
RE4 was just the first action RE game that was done well. Action is nothing new to this series.
I agree with you on that one HUNK, though as much ammo as I always had, it near always ran on low just in time for a Nemesis encounter. I would be able to take down just about anything, but it just always seemed when ammo was low I'd get a big "Howdy-do" from that damn thing.
This "Raccoon City" deal sounds a bit interesting, but it seems kinda cheesy to me too. I can't really imagine playing a game like this in the RE Universe. I'm iffy on the whole subject, and I hope Revelations brings back some of the old classic "survival-horror" elements.
Can I add if we can kill off main characters of the series, the one person I can't kill, is Jill Valentine... and by some extension Chris. But mainly Jill, I would not be able to bring myself to do it :/
"The Heavens are busy right now, can I put you on hold?"
I know exactly what you mean.
"God is in his Heaven. All is right with the world."
I would agree with that for main parts of the game, but there is one caveat to that and that was the Nemesis himself. He alone installed the survival horror element in the game. You needed the ammo for him, you needed the herbs for him and during that first play though, who knew where he would pop up.
I remember coming out of the STARS office, and about to walk down the stairs when the Nemesis music started. To put it lightly, I did not want to walk down those stairs, I didn't know if I was due a battle in the main hall, in the below corridor, or would he chase me throughout the RPD.
I think Nemesis made RE3 survivial horror.

I agree, getting chased around by Nemesis and trying to escape Raccoon City made one hell of a survival horror game. I think that Resident Evil 5 was the first true drop of the hat, yeah Resident Evil 4 was close but it wasn't till 5 that everything went from survival horror/puzzle to an all out action game.
I've been thinking there's something wrong with this house!

As pointed on THIA, if it is Aprils fools then where's the humour? Some videogame site antagonising Resi fans? Before 1st April? This is exactly the sort of thing I can see Capcom thinking, this will make us money. I hope its not Aprils fools 'cause I've fallen for it (again).

I disagree. Survival Horror is not just based on low ammo. IMO RE2 was more action packed and less scary then RE3. Having Nemesis able to chase you from room to room was shit scary. RE4 I wasn't scared at all, and even if it had low ammo I never felt that same fear. Its more panic i'm overrun then the unnerving atmosphere in previous games waiting for something to happen.
I expected something to jump out at me but it never happened. If you ask me I would say RE4 was more creepy than 5 just because you didn't know what to expect, but all in all I just want good old fashion survival horror back.
I've been thinking there's something wrong with this house!
I like the issue brought up in this thread regarding Resident Evil 3 and its survival horror credentials. Hunk is right to highlight the greater emphasis on ammunition, and there are far too many healing items, but I cannot agree that it is not survival horror ~ I see it more as an action game {in the sense that the pace is faster & the killing sprees more prevalent than RE1} with a survival horror experience running through it; the healing item frequency more a development mis-judgement, rather than a definite choice by Capcom to produce an action shooter.
"I agree with Nick" {forgive the political pun!} The dynamic provided by the Nemesis is pure survival horror for me....the fearful background theme as he approaches, the panic as I check my inventory for sufficient ammo C to make magnum rounds. I just wish that Hard mode had been actually hard & the game would have been almost as good as RE2. I say 'almost' because the search for an antidote for Jill should have been portrayed & developed as a longer, more significant & harder ordeal for the player.

If the multiplayer component involves any sort of player customization and to a lesser extent upgradable skills then I will definitely be buying it. If it is indeed to be released this fall then we can expect a lot more information to be getting released rather soon I would imagine.
Just saw the OXM cover at THIA..Well looks like Umbrella has some Ninja employees in their troop, with guns and chemical splash suits instead of Katana and Ninja garbs.......
Interesting , but it's more weird to me..
No more shooting craps to RE please.
You know, back when RE4 first came out I didn't like it due to its lack of survival horror (at least compared to the old RE games), but it does have some creepy moments in it and I think it has aged well. It also has great, unsettling atmosphere when compared to the Indiana Jones-style adventure of RE5. Speaking of RE5, I don't think it has aged well at all - it's just the same colorful action game it was two years ago. It also contains almost no survival horror elements, which is why I (and many others) were annoyed by its "Fear you can't forget" slogan.

Actually I think Resident Evil 5 has worsened with age.

I'm inclined to disagree, I think one of the key facets of RE5 that many people overlooked was the graphics. Personally, I thought RE5 looked spectacular. The lighting effects in particular, right after Irving is rescued by Jill. In addition, the actual fight with Irving is another part that stands out.
