Excellent stuff. I like the tribe part, shows that they really did recycle the hell out of the scrapped biohazard 4 versions for BIOHAZARD 5.

The "Nobody" enemies really do look like Progenitor/G-type enemies, especially with the presence of the eyeballs.

Excellent find, Welsh.

Wow. Wonderful stuff there, Welsh. I have to say, I had a hard time figuring out how DMC was RE 3.5 in some spots, but you just made it more obvious, especially those G-type creatures. Thanks.

Nice post man. Looking forward to the editorial. I don't know much of ripping DMC though, I've never tried to. I'll ask around if someone can do it.

A lot of this stuff I already knew and have seen, but it's still nice to have it all collected together in one place.  Good work.

I must disagree. We don't know if the Count at that first incarnation of Bio4 was actually Spencer, in every source he is referred as just "The Count". I doubt that if he was actually Spencer, Kamiya would just say it. The idea of exploring the Progenitor virus origins and hence, Spencer's involvement with it were not present in this Era. They were thought for another one. This Era was all about rescuing some girl from the fangs of the Count and during the aventure explore the unknown powers hidden in Dante's/Tony Redgrave's body with a bio-technology approach, seasoned with the shadowing presence of an misterious character that ended up being the protagonist's brother. Only reason for assuming The Count was Spencer is the Umbrella logo over the baby twin brothers, which for me, is not proof enough for such a direct assumption. For example, if Dead Aim would have been cancelled and we happened to find a sketch of Morpheus with a huge Umbrella logo over it, we could especulate he could be a younger Spencer, which he isn't.

Also, every other beta skecth of Spencer shows him as a crippled old man bound to a wheelchair. Just look at those sketches from Demento. And that's how he ended up being portrayed in Bio5. The Count could have been some kind of high profiled researched from Umbrella for all we know.

As a side note, on the last image I don't think that's a whip, but a cane.

Ridley; Hideki Kamiya confirmed that it was Spencer personally.

Ah crap, Twitter, the last source I would consider. I guess his design was considerably different at this time then. Thanks for the correction Paul!

Com'on Ridley. You think I'm making this up? I'll get around to sourcing everything.

Also, he's referred to across various sources as Count, Earl, Lord/Sir, King of the Castle and Castellan.

Wow I was not aware of how diferent this version of RE4 would have been from the rest of the series.  It would seem as though RE4 was always destined to be quite different from its predessesors.

I contacted Tony Daniels who voiced Mundus in 'Devil May Cry' hoping he voiced Spencer as well.

Quote:
****, I was cast by casting director and director Susan Hart.  Susan and I worked on the Xmen and Capcom's Xmen vs Streetfighter so she knew my work and "paper cast" me as Mundus.  Dates and times elude me as I am so busy and that was long ago....

on point 2....not sure of the details there but I don't believe I worked on the first one....

and on 3, that is totally up to whom ever is producing as an actor, we like to work...

thank you ****, I hope that gives you some but very little insight....

The majority of updates will be based on the official DMC website, Devil May Cry Graphic Edition, Devil May Cry Graphic File, Makoto Tsuchibayashi Design Works, Devil May Cry Sound DVD Book Sacred Heart, and the actual game.

Thanks Neptune.

"Witch" was a medium-sized monster that appeared in Stage 1.

[Illustration of Shadow from Devil May Cry]

According to Kamiya-san, "It was originally designed as a black cat monster which merely became gigantic, but we also remodeled this guy into a demon world monster with the changed world-view."

Judging from the artwork, it may have appeared in the "Underground Colosseum" stage.

Zombies became the large wooden puppets called "Marionette". The above illustration seems to be modified from the Bio4 era since rotten flesh is visible.

According to Kamiya-san, "Dolls that stand over 2 meters tall. These guys were originally designed as zombies. The sense is a monster like Frankenstein that the tacky castellan has created by putting corpses together. But it's normal how the creatures moved so we tried with much effort to turn them into weird dolls that move involuntary when the setting changed because they're inhabitants of Hell!"

In addition, here's the only unnamed monster which appeared in the underwater stage.

Excellent work, Newsbot. The plot thickens. I'm posting your wonderful theory, too.

Quote:
He doesn't remember that much about it, so he just said "maybe" when I asked him if it was the cause of Spencer's 100+ year old age.
But it's likely, I guess.
Spencer is old when he first acquires the G-Virus, then he injects himself and becomes immortal and superhuman, but at the same age when he first got it so he creates two bio-engineered sons infused with the virus in order for them to succeed him

LORD SPENCER, KING OF THE CASTLE

Original Spencer coat of arms inscribed with, "FORTES FORTUNA JUVAT" (Fortune favors the brave).

Same mark on the flag outside Spencer's castle at the beginning of DMC and throughout the castle.

The text of the speech bubble reads, “There is a court!” BioTech says it’s probably referring to a courtyard or garden.

"An illustration of the Count who was setup as boss in the initial setting of Devil May Cry. A European-style man who seems to be strong opponent." -Tsuchibayashi-san ( p.128)

Ashkin's question to Kamiya:

Quote:
Why Spencer's left eye is red? http://bit.ly/aQ5Htq
HK: I don't know. Maybe he is angry or something.

Portrait "Count's Family"

"For this illustration, Shimoda-san from background design gave the main points as to how to decorate the hallway. But in this picture, I think there's something unnatural... normally, the woman would sit in the chair, with the man standing nearby, right? And so, with this old man being the only one sitting... as you'd expect, an evil mastermind is different to an ordinary man." -Director Kamiya

Ashkin's questions to Kamiya about the woman:

Quote:
If she's not Eva, who is she then? what's her name?
HK: She was a hero's mother only in the first plot.

Can you please tell me her name?
HK: She didn't have a name.

So did Lord Spencer killed hero's mother in Biohazard4 ?
HK: Kill? What's that?

SO SHE WAS ALIVE! HERO'S MOTHER WAS ALIVE!
HK: Only in the first plot...

Lord Spencer and his son was Tony right? what about Vergil?
HK: Paul or something... just a temporary name.

All Tsuchibayashi-san says is that he drew twin children at the time when the game was still a Biohazard title and that's why he inserted the Umbrella mark. (Makoto, p.123)

Untranslated

Ashkin's questions to Kamiya:

Quote:
Who is this guy in your Biohazard4:
HK: Hero's father in a 1st plot,I think.
HK: Hmm...I don't remember,sorry...
HK: But in the 1st plot the hero's name was Tony.
HK: Oh, now I remember. His name was Lord Spencer.

Count

"Back when the game was still a "Bio" title, this guy was the Count that we set up as the mastermind. He was the king of the old castle for some hundreds of years, and holds Dante, with an unfortunate destiny introducing the two people... that sort of development. Even looking at this design picture, I think you can understand that we seemed to be taking a route that wasn't like the "Bio" series so far.
This feeling of the "old man being the mastermind" was always in my heart, and even after the title changed I continued to draw from this strong image. One meaning of this is that you could say he was a prototype for the Demon Lord Mundus. When he transforms into a human in this world, he would look something like this." -Director Kamiya

Spencer transformed. Newsbot suggested he's actually a G-human.

Is there anything saying how this version would of played? Would it of been like a TPS or was it always planned as a hack 'n' slash?

What we got as Devil May Cry is exactly what this game would've been like, only with a bigger focus on guns rather than swordplay.
