"I was to become a god... creating a new world with an advanced race of human beings." - Ozwell E. Spencer
The Wesker Children were subjects of the Wesker Project initiated by the Umbrella Corporation. They were a select group of children born from parents with superior intellectual and genetic backgrounds, chosen by Ozwell E. Spencer as ideal candidates for a new human race. The name "Wesker" was taken based on the name of the lead researcher at the time. 1
History
Exactly when the Wesker Project began is unknown, but it is believed to have started sometime following the discovery of the Progenitor virus in 1966. Initially, hundreds of subjects were kidnapped for the plan, but the candidates were later limited to only thirteen individuals:
- Hans Wesker
- Felicia Wesker
- Marco Wesker
- Jonah Wesker
- Irma Wesker
- Ken Wesker
- Laura Wesker
- William Wesker
- Hiro Wesker
- Derek Wesker
- Miles Wesker
- Alex Wesker
- Albert Wesker
Spencer had these children molded from an early age to share his values and ideals, with applied genetic manipulation, and then put them in controlled areas around the world where they would grow under the watchful but hidden eyes of Umbrella, ensuring that they recieved the best educations possible for the fields they pursued. They were to be the model for a new advanced human race in his plot for a new world, with himself reigning as a god. 2
Later in their lives, Spencer had each of them injected with the Prototype virus, an experimental virus based on the Progenitor virus which would naturally select the more gifted and worthy of the Wesker Children to be advanced to the next stage of evolution; those who did not adapt to the virus would die. Be it through recommendation of a friend, a part of routine health check-ups or by force, all of the Wesker Children eventually had the virus administered to them.
By 2006, there were only two survivors: Alex Wesker and Albert Wesker, test subjects No. 012 and No. 013, who were the two most favored by Spencer for the promise they showed. Alex became lead researcher on the Wesker Project and a close assistant to Spencer, while Albert was presumed dead after the Mansion Incident, leaving the success rate of the project at 18%. 3 While Albert died in 2009, Alex's whereabouts remain unknown. 4
