Vincent Goldman was a young elite of the Umbrella Corporation. Recognised as a brilliant scientist and excellent leader, he served as the commander of Sheena Island. During his tenure, he was instrumental in the management of a Tyrant (T-103 Type) mass production line. He was also head of the research team responsible for the development of the Hypnos-T Type. Cold-blooded and without a shred of humanity, Goldman was a heinous individual who committed a number of atrocities on the island.
History
Early History
Goldman was appointed as commander of the solitary Sheena Island following the death of the previous commander. It is likely that he had some involvement in his death.
Appointment as Commander
After being appointed as commander by Umbrella Headquarters, Goldman ruthlessly oversaw the extraction of a chemical named "β Hetero Nonserotonin". Details behind the discovery of the chemical are unknown, but it could be extracted by dissecting the brains of teenagers in the second stage of sexual development, secreted in the pituary gland. This chemical was the key to mass producing the B.O.W. known as "Tyrant", bypassing the need to seek out subjects with a compatible genetic code. 1 Goldman's lack of humanity was one of the main reasons why extraction of the chemical was so successful, as he had absolutely no reserve about having workers at the plant cut open the skulls of conscious teenagers and demanded a restriction on the use of any form of pain relief or anesthesia to ensure the maximum amount of the chemical was extracted. Although Umbrella HQ was aware of his cruel actions, they were ignored due to his research results. 2
During his time as commander, Goldman also led a research team in developing a new, deadlier B.O.W. dubbed the Hypnos-T Type. 3
Mass Shooting (October 1998)
Following the aftermath of the Raccoon City incident, on October 7, 1998, Goldman called each section of the city together and briefed them on the incident after receiving the final report from Umbrella HQ. At the briefing, Goldman ordered that anyone on the island suspected of being a traitor to Umbrella was to be killed without hesitation. 4 On October 9, a group of child captives being used as raw material for the creation of Tyrants made a daring escape attempt from the island's prison complex. However, Goldman managed to thwart their efforts and confronted them personally. Taking a weapon and with a cruel smile, Goldman murdered all twenty children in cold blood. 5 Concerned that such an act would hinder his career prospects at Umbrella, Goldman instructed the island prison chief to cover up the entire incident as a mass suicide, with the report submitted to Umbrella HQ. 6
Sheena Island Incident (November 1998)
Following the mass shooting, Goldman began to grow paranoid about the truth of the incident getting out to his superiors, as a group of Sheena Island civilians had prepared a full and detailed report to be handed to the routine Umbrella inspectors that would arrive on the island from HQ in only a short time. 7 On November 7, Lott Klein reported the presence of Ark Thompson on the island and the plot of the citizens to Goldman. The presence of a spy snooping around the island only added to Goldman's anger, Lott being the only person he could trust on the island. Afraid of his career being tarnished completely, between November 19 and 22, Goldman scattered the t-virus among the unsuspecting populace of Sheena Island, blanketing the island in zombies and B.O.W.s and preparing to make his escape from the island and collect his rewards from Umbrella, covering the incident up as an accident. 8
However, he decided to hunt down Thompson, and encountered the detective in his own control room. After a short confrontation, Thompson made his way to the heliport with Goldman in pursuit. Thompson managed to steal the helicopter Goldman prepared to escape in, but Goldman leapt for the underside of the helicopter and held on. After firing a few shots at the pilot section of the helicopter, Goldman fell from it as it plunged several feet away into flames. Goldman ended up surviving his fall, and once again left in pursuit of Thompson. He dispatched numerous mass produced Tyrants to kill the detective and continued the chase. Eventually, Goldman tracked Thompson down once again in the Tyrant Plant, where Vincent was slain by his own creation; the Hypnos-T Type.
