Umbrella Waste Disposal Facility

The Umbrella Waste Disposal Facility was a facility located on a remote island in the Atlantic Ocean which was owned and operated by the Umbrella Corporation and administered by Umbrella Headquarters. Its primary purpose was for the disposal of failed Bio Organic Weapons sent from other facilities, and it also acted as a division of the R&D Department of Umbrella HQ. Its supervisor was Morpheus D. Duvall. In 1998, the facility was abandoned by Umbrella and was taken over by Duvall.

History

It is unknown when Umbrella acquired the island or when the facility was built. At some point, a sub-biosphere was constructed (referred to simply as the "Bio-Sphere") at a depth of 100 meters off the coast of the island, containing an underwater biotechnology laboratory which was used for research and development. The Bio-Sphere was directly administered by Umbrella HQ, who appointed Morpheus D. Duvall as supervisor.

Beginning on September 26, 1996, an experiment was conducted with a B.O.W. test subject dubbed "Pluto" in order to examine the effects of loss of visual information. On day 41 of the experiment, an accident occured as the B.O.W. managed to kill 5 researchers before escaping. 1 Over time, many failed B.O.W.s somehow escaped disposal and began to roam the underground waterways and material transporation sections. 2

Following the biohazard in the Arklay Laboratory in America on May 11, 1998, the Umbrella Corporation supposedly launched an investigation and found that the division of the R&D Department supervised by Duvall was responsible for a "serious mistake" which led to the biohazard. In August 1998, Duvall was dismissed from Umbrella and the entire island and its adjacent Bio-Sphere were abandoned. Duvall then took over the staff and operations of the Bio-Sphere, and began plotting revenge against Umbrella for what he saw as a betrayal. 3

In order to fulfil his plans to establish a "kingdom of beauty", Duvall ordered for the design and construction of an underwater missile silo. In August 2002, a lack of proper supervision by Duvall led to a biohazard on the island and in the Bio-Sphere, caused by a leak of the t-virus. In September 2002, Duvall's plan was put into action as he raided the Paris Laboratory and stole 3 samples of the t-virus, including one sample of agent V.0.9.2 of the t+G-virus. He then sea-jacked the Spencer Rain luxury cruise liner owned by Umbrella and leaked the t-virus on the ship, setting the ship's co-ordinates to the island where the Waste Disposal Facility was situated. On September 23, Duvall's plans were foiled by U.S.STRATCOM agent Bruce McGivern and Chinese MSS agent Fong Ling. In the process, the Bio-Sphere was destroyed following the explosion of the missile silo.

It is unknown what happened with the island following the arrival of the U.S. Government.
