Umbrella Antarctic Base

The site of the Umbrella Antarctica division.

History

The Umbrella Antarctic Base was a facility first administered by Alexander Ashford. After buying out an abandoned transport terminal and mine, he had it renovated in February 1969 to act as his personal research facility, becoming the main part of Umbrella's operations in Antarctica, essentially becoming a new division; Umbrella Antarctica. The construction and renovation was completed in November 1969. Utilizing the most modern research equipment, Alexander commenced his CODE: Veronica project at the site in a secret underground laboratory (Antarctic Research Facility). Alexia Ashford discovered the T-Veronica virus in the base in 1981, and was where she chose to go into a 15 year cryogenic period of hibernation after first infecting Alexander with the virus. After graduating from an English university in 1993, Alfred Ashford became the new administrator of the base.

After Alfred took over command of the site, the Antarctic Base fell into decline due to sloppy management, gaining it nothing but frustration and ire from the rest of Umbrella due to several mishaps which affected the rest of the company, such as the shortage of certain chemicals. Joel Allman, Vice President of the USA division, was one such detractor.

The facility itself was not limited to the CODE: Veronica project, as the facility was also used to develop, store and ship numerous B.O.W.s, including the Black Widow and Moth. Viral research was also conducted. A replica of the Arklay Mansion was also built within the facility, comprised of the mansion's main hall and several rooms and corridors. The facility was also responsible for the transporation of B.O.W.s and other biological materials, utilizing the previous facilities of the abandoned transport terminal.

Following the crash landing of several transport planes from Rockfort Island, the T-virus was leaked throughout the entire facility decimating it entirely. It was later destroyed following the activation of the self-destruct sequence (with the passcode set as "Veronica") due to the efforts of Claire Redfield and her older brother, Chris Redfield.
