Title

Steve Burnside

Steve Burnside was the son of an employee of the Umbrella Corporation. Though cocky on the outside and often reckless, he was good-hearted but starved for love and affection. 1 2 3 4

History

At some point, Steve's father betrayed Umbrella and attempted to sell its secrets to the highest bidder for money. The corporation discovered his actions and came for his family, killing Steve's mother and taking him and his father as prisoners. They were transported to the prison complex on Rockfort Island. He spent his days of confinement in deep sadness, and began to resent his father for risking his family.

On December 27, 1998, Steve managed to escape from his cell during the attack on the island by "H.C.F.". During this time, he encountered Claire Redfield and despite initially treating her as a nuisance, they formed a partnership. Steve would go on to save Claire's life in several life-threatening situations. As he discovered her gentleness and strength, he gradually began to open up his heart to her. During their attempt to escape, they stumbled upon Steve's father, now a Zombie. Steve was forced to shoot his own father to save Claire.

The pair escaped from Rockfort Island, but their plane was forcefully led to the Umbrella Antarctic Base by Alfred. Steve began to fall in love with Claire. After saving Claire from Alfred again, the awakened Alexia Ashford destroyed the snowmobile they attempted to escape in, taking them both prisoner. Steve was subjected to an administration experiment of the modified strain of the "t-Veronica virus" from Alexia's blood. As Claire attempted to save him, he began to mutate, becoming a large creature with no sense of reason and immense strength. Before he could kill Claire, he managed to regain his will, and his mutation subsided, but he was left with serious injuries. He proclaimed his love for Claire before dying.

Burnside's corpse, which harbored the modified "t-Alexia virus", was taken away by Albert Wesker. It was brought to "The Organization", making Burnside an important test subject in the history of B.O.W.s. The virus extracted from him allowed for the development of new B.O.W.s, beginning with the Jabberwock S3, and the virus was also later sold by Wesker to a former drug lord named Javier Hidalgo, sparking a bioterrorism incident in South America.
