The Spencer Rain was a luxury passenger cruise liner owned and operated by the Umbrella Corporation. It was christened after the founder, CEO and President of Umbrella; Ozwell E. Spencer.
History
Following the Raccoon City incident, Umbrella came under heavy scrutiny. Several lawsuits were filed against the company while an investigation was launched into the Raccoon City tragedy, and the U.S. Government issued a worldscale business suspension order against the company. As their business stalled and stock prices continued to fall, Umbrella had virtually collaped. Ozwell E. Spencer began planning for a revival while operating through dummy companies and the company's branches outside the U.S. As part of these plans, Spencer organised a secret competitive auction of the company's latest B.O.W. and viral samples on the "Spencer Rain". On May 21, 2002, the Spencer Rain left port with many of Umbrella's most valuable samples and customers from all over the world. Auctions were held in the ship's presentation room in September, which was connected to the ship's main hall via a secret passage. Repairs on the ship's facilities were carried out on September 16.
On September 20, the ship was sea-jacked by a terrorist group led by Morpheus D. Duvall and became a stage for bioterrorism. Soon after, Morpheus himself leaked the t-virus on the ship, turning even his own men into Zombie creatures. At night, agent Bruce McGivern of U.S.STRATCOM and Fong Ling from the Chinese Ministry of State Security both infiltrated the cruiser. Later, Morpheus set the ship's co-ordinates to the abandoned Umbrella Waste Disposal Facility formely owned by Umbrella. Upon arrival, the ship crashed straight into the cliff-edge of the island, exploding.
