Rodrigo Juan Raval was a native of a small village on Rockfort Island, who later became a security officer for the Umbrella Corporation.
History
When he was still young, Umbrella purchased the island, supposedly killing almost all of its inhabitants including Rodrigo's family. With nowhere else to turn, Rodrigo turned a blind eye and joined Umbrella itself, an action that would fill him with guilt for the rest of his life. He was accepted and was trained on Rockfort Island's newly opened Military Training Facility. Rodrigo soon became head of the 3rd Security Unit and Prisoner Transport at Umbrella Europe's headquarters based in Paris, France.
On December 17, 1998, it was Rodrigo who managed to capture Claire Redfield and bring her to Rockfort, after she had already managed to evade and kill dozens of Umbrella security guards. Rodrigo's parents were named Robert and Mary Raval.
Rockfort Island Incident (Dec. 27, 1998)
Following the attack commenced on Rockfort Island by a mysterious Special Forces unit led by Albert Wesker, Rodrigo suffered injuries to the stomach. With this, he decided to release Claire Redfield from her imprisonment, while remaining in the small prison by himself. Rodrigo was afflicted with an extreme crisis of conscience, caring not for his own life and believing it just, for his servitude to Umbrella.
While Claire continued her attempt to escape from the island, she came across some hemostatic medicine, of which Rodrigo had run out of. She promptly returned to her former captor and handed him the medicine, along with her precious lighter, a gift from her brother Chris Redfield. Grateful, Rodrigo gave Claire a lock-pick, before sending her off once more.
Rodrigo healed himself, and soon became completely hopeless following the self-destruction of most of the facilities on Rockfort Island. After Claire made her escape, Rodrigo went to the ruins still on the island, which contained a chamber of graves, and seated himself beside the graves of his family. Soon however, he was confronted by Chris Redfield himself. After explaining Claire's situation to Chris, the two of them were attacked by the Gulp Worm B.O.W., and Rodrigo was swallowed whole by the creature. In exchange for the information on his sister, Chris killed the Gulp Worm, causing it to regurgitate Rodrigo, who, in his death throes, gave Chris back his lighter and proclaimed his joy at being able to see his family once more.
