Aside from being a different species to the Giant Moth which was researched upon in the labs beneath Raccoon City, the Moth was a different species stored at the Umbrella Antarctic Base for use in experiments. 1
History
They were subsequently infected by the t-virus which leaked into the base from the evacuee planes from Rockfort Island and made certain parts of the facility their nest. 2
Attributes
Unlike the Giant Moth, the wings of the Moth grew in perfect proportion to its body and as such they were able to be utilized when searching for prey, with excellent manoeuvrability. The Moth has the ability to release a phosphorus powder which can poison and kill a person if inhaled. It can also lay eggs onto other creatures, and the resulting larvae (simply dubbed "Parasite") will act in a parasitic manner once born by using the creature it was laid on as an immediate food source.
