Title

Morpheus D. Duvall

Morpheus D. Duvall was an ex-member of the R&D Department at the headquarters of the Umbrella Corporation. He was personally obsessed with beauty and believed it to be the ultimate symbol of power and status. He had charmed his subordinates and seized real power, but there appeared to be dangerous developments in the company, and he was falsely accused and dismissed. At some point, he underwent a large amount of cosmetic surgery, including a partial sex change, showing his complete devotion to beauty.

History

Umbrella Corporation Career

While employed by the European branch of Umbrella, Duvall was appointed as the director of the Umbrella Waste Disposal Facility, a section of the R&D Department located on an island in the Atlantic Ocean and administered directly by Umbrella Headquarters. He was charged with supervising the facility and the underwater biotechnology laboratory located in a sub bio-sphere at a depth of 100m off the coast of the island. Under his supervision, the operations of the island and adjacent facilities became sloppy, and accidents began to occur as the condition of the development section worsened.

At some point, Duvall attracted subordinates from the Umbrella R&D Department and held real power, but showed threatening movement against the company and was regarded as a threat. Following the biohazard in the Arklay Laboratory on May 11, 1998, the company decided to frame Duvall and dimiss him. After a supposed investigation, his development section was concluded to have been responsible for "gross negligence" and was associated with the biohazard. As the person in charge of the section, he was dismissed on August 20, 1998 for having neglected to take actions to advert the crisis.

The development section, including the Umbrella Waste Disposal Facility, bio-sphere and underwater laboratory, was abandoned by the company. 1

A Kingdom of Beauty (1998~2002)

Following his betrayal by Umbrella, Duvall took over the staff and operations of the abandoned island and its facilities and ordered the construction of an underwater missile silo, setting in motion his plans which would allow him to realize his dream of a "Kingdom of Beauty". 2 3 He amassed a cult-like group of followers who deeply admired him in order to aid in his plans. To obtain 10 billion dollars from around the world, Duvall gathered mercenaries in Africa's countryside in a military state and planned to steal the t-virus from Umbrella to use as a threat. Using the missile silo, he planned to load missiles with the virus to blackmail the United States and Chinese governments.

Meanwhile, both Umbrella and the U.S. Government began monitoring Duvall, and a spy from the Umbrella Intelligence Department infiltrated his group. As a result of his disregard for supervision and continued sloppy management, the t-virus leaked within the underwater laboratory in August 2002.

Spencer Rain Bioterrorism Incident (September 2002)

In September 2002, to secure funds for the construction of his kingdom, Duvall blackmailed the U.S. and Chinese governments for 5 billion dollars each and threatened that if payment was not received by 12:00am on September 23, he would launch missiles carrying the t-virus at both nations. On September 18, 2002, Duvall stole 3 samples of the t-virus from a safe containing test agents at the Paris Laboratory.

With the virus in his possession, Duvall's followers sea-jacked the Spencer Rain, a privately owned large-scale luxury cruise liner owned by Umbrella. With VIPs of many nationalities on-board, the ship was being used as the site of a secret auction for their biological weapons in order to gather funds for the revival of the company, which had been weakened by a worldscale business suspension order and resulting collapse in stock price. After the seizure of the cruiser, Duvall purposefully leaked one of the stolen t-virus samples on-board and infected everyone, including his own followers. Afterwards, he set the ship on a course for the the island which housed the Umbrella Waste Disposal Facility.

With the Spencer Rain under Duvall's control, the Chinese Ministry of State Security and U.S.STRATCOM (United States Strategic Command) each deployed agents to eliminate Duvall and retrieve the virus from him. The Chinese sent Fong Ling, while the U.S. sent Bruce McGivern of the Anti-Umbrella Pursuit and Investigation Team. After McGivern landed via parachute, Duvall confronted him immediately after his arrival, and after a brief exchange, prepared to kill him. However, Fong Ling managed to interfere by throwing a grenade at the pair, separating them and wounding Duvall who then escaped into the ship.

While monitoring the two agents, Duvall released the Hunter Elite models stored on the cruiser to eliminate them. After this attempt failed, Morpheus injected himself with V.0.9.2. of the t+G-virus, becoming a Tyrant (colloquially named "Morpheus") and retaining full control of his consciousness with no loss of intelligence. After arriving at the island, he prepared to launch the missiles at the U.S. and China, but was stopped by McGivern and Fong Ling. Due to damage caused by the Charged Particle Rifle, the G-virus within Duvall's body began to mutate at a rapid rate, rendering him a massive blob of mass within minutes. Due to the uncontrollable increase in size, Duvall's sheer mass exploded, taking the bio-sphere, underwater laboratory and missile silo with him.
