The "Jumping Maneater" was a South American spider-based B.O.W. optimized for hot and humid climates. 1
History
Following the issuing of a business suspension order against Umbrella U.S.A.-- the American branch of the Umbrella Corporation, the company continued its research and experiments with the t-virus through its dummy companies and branches outside of the United States. Unlike before however, they continued or restarted research into previously scrapped projects, among them being the application of spiders as weapons which was initially conducted at the Arklay Laboratory. One of the products produced out of this research was the Jumping Maneater, a spider B.O.W. based on a South American jumping spider, allowing it to adapt to the high temperature and moisture of jungle and other humid environments.
Due to its particular adaptability to hot and humid environments, a certain quantity of the B.O.W. was purchased by Javier Hidalgo and became a part of his private army. In Summer 2002, several Maneaters were unleashed upon Mixcoatl Village. 2
Attributes
The Jumping Maneater is similar to the Web Spinner and Giant Spider specimens in almost every respect, such as gigantism. However, the Jumping Maneater actually possesses the ability to create webs, which it uses to incapacitate its prey before dealing a death blow. Whether the spider retains its namesake is unknown, as no specimens have been observed to jump, indicating that gigantism has robbed it of its natural ability.
