Jill Valentine

Jill Valentine was a former United States Army soldier, former officer of S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Service) and a founding agent of the BSAA (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance).

She was a bomb disposal expert skilled with her fingers who also excelled in lock-picking and disarming traps, with general knowledge on chemical and drug related matters. She was a serious woman with very strong senses of justice and responsibility and would question without hesitation to the point of absurdity, holding on for the sake of the truth even if she were denied it.

She had a rather impulsive disposition but conducted herself calmly during missions, saving her team-mates a number of times with precise judgments. As she never complained in emergencies, she tended to be viewed as courageous, but she often feigned strength. After surviving the Mansion Incident and the destruction Raccoon City, she fought the threat of bioterrorism and attempted to expose the illegal activities of the Umbrella Corporation. She was straightforward, strong-minded, unyielding, intellectual and completely loyal to the mission without hiding her feelings, normally only showing her tough side to others. There were however times where she would let her guard down and reveal a softer side. 1 2 3 4 5 6

Early History

Valentine was born in 1974. Her father was French while her mother was of Japanese descent.

She joined the U.S. Army where she met fellow soldier Forest Speyer. She was inducted into a special training program of the Army's 1st SFOD-D (1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta), commonly known as "Delta Force", the nation's primary counterterrorist unit. She trained in the Special Operations Training Facility in Fort Bragg, North Carolina and scored top grades in EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) at "Range 19 Alpha." She was also trained to pick around 60 different types of locks. This experience made her one of the only women in the world with Delta Force training.

In 1996, she was recruited into the special operations unit S.T.A.R.S. of the Raccoon Police Department. She stated that her motive for joining was being unable to forgive evil that threatens civilians, but she also wanted to "experience the true feeling of life." She became the only female member of Alpha Team and was assigned to position RS (Rear Security). She kept her Delta Force training a secret from her team-mates and when once asked by Chris Redfield, she dismissively answered "It's a secret." She was trained in marksmanship by Redfield several times a week and would get angry if he didn't teach her with conviction. On holidays she often took it easy at home and didn't go out much.

Mansion Incident (1998)

On July 24, 1998, the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team was deployed to investigate the disappearance of Bravo Team in the Arklay Mountains. Valentine witnessed the brutal mauling of team-mate Joseph Frost at the hands of a "Cerberus" B.O.W. and was narrowly saved by Redfield. The team fled into the nearby Spencer Mansion, where overcame several dangerous situations and would've died if not for the presence of Barry Burton, who aided her throughout the investigation. She was unable to maintain her strong and brave demeanor while being faced with gruesome sights one after another, and witnessed the murder of Enrico Marini.

Valentine and Redfield discovered the underground Arklay Laboratory, a top-secret facility operated by the Umbrella Corporation to develop biological weapons using a pathogen known as the "t-virus." She learned the company's true nature and uncovered the betrayal of Captain Albert Wesker, as well as his threat on the lives of Burton's family and plot to betray Umbrella. She and Redfield activated the facility's self-destruct system to stop the virus from spreading to Raccoon City, defeating the B.O.W. Tyrant (T-002 Type) and escaping prior to the explosion.

After returning to the police station in an injured and exhausted state, Valentine was hospitalized in Raccoon General Hospital and immediately filed a report on the incident. 7 When no investigation was opened, she confronted Police Chief Brian Irons with her comrades and demanded him to open an immediate investigation. The claims were dismissed due to evidence being destroyed in the mansion's explosion. Redfield investigated Umbrella alone, eventually informing Valentine about the existence of the G-virus. 8 She swore on an alliance with Redfield in their goal to destroy Umbrella.

On August 8, Valentine filed an additional report into the Mansion Incident. 9 Later that month, Valentine planned to investigate Umbrella's European branch with Redfield and Burton but chose to remain behind in Raccoon City to investigate the company's secret underground laboratory before departing.

Raccoon City Destruction Incident (Sept. 1998)

In late September, the t-virus caused a large-scale outbreak in Raccoon City. After a military blockade was erected around the city, Valentine stayed in her apartment waiting to be evacuated. Two doctors at Raccoon General Hospital attempted to evacuate her medical records from the city hoping it would provide clues to a vaccine. However, the attempt failed.

On September 28, she concluded that no military help was coming and fled into the streets in search of an escape from the city. She was targeted by the B.O.W. Nemesis-T Type deployed by Umbrella Europe to eliminate the surviving S.T.A.R.S. members. She witnessed the execution of Brad Vickers by the B.O.W. and encountered it many times in the city.

She cooperated with a small group of surviving soldiers from the U.B.C.S. (Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service), including Carlos Oliveira, Nikolai Zinoviev and Mikhail Victor. She agreed to help them get to an extraction point at St. Michael's Clock Tower. After arriving at the clock tower, she was infected by the Nemesis-T with a stronger form of the t-virus and fell unconscious for almost three days, but was saved by a vaccine synthesized by Oliveira.

On October 1, she learned that the city was to be destroyed by a U.S. Army missile strike at dawn. She encountered Umbrella agent Nikolai Zinoviev one last time and received a garbled transmission from Barry Burton, who'd come to rescue her in a civilian helicopter. She used the "Demon Sword of Paracelsus" magnetic rail cannon to kill the Nemesis-T and escaped with Burton and Oliveira shortly before the missile destroyed the city, vowing to destroy Umbrella.

Valentine travelled to Europe in search of Redfield. On December 27, she found his empty apartment hideout and his blood-covered knife left on the ground. At the time, he had left for Rockfort Island in order to rescue his sister. In 1999, the pair reunited and joined the American branch of the Private Anti-Biohazard Service funded by rival pharmaceutical companies of Umbrella. Over the next few years, they committed themselves to resolving biohazard outbreaks and bioterrorism incidents around the world to destroy Umbrella's remnants.

Umbrella's End (2003-2004)

In 2003, the Russian government obtained intelligence leaked by Albert Wesker regarding the development of a new B.O.W. by the Russian branch of Umbrella. The government funded an operation to raid the facility and deployed the Russian branch of the Private Anti-Biohazard Service, with Valentine and Redfield taking part on behalf of the American branch.

They fought their way through the overground facility and reached the deepest depths of an underground laboratory and encountered T-A.L.O.S. (Tyrant-Armored Lethal Organic System), the new B.O.W. they had heard about. They destroyed the prototype and turned their attention to the apprehension of Wesker.

With the fall of Umbrella, the company's biological weapons began to leak into black markets around the world. In 2004, the Federation of Pharmaceutical Companies established the BSAA (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance). Valentine was one of the "Original Eleven" founding members. Together with Redfield, she patrolled the world to stamp out all bioweapons and stopped bioweapons in Asia, destroyed bioweapon labs in South America and arrested smugglers in Europe. Throughout these activities, while she and Redfield suspected the involvement of Umbrella, they never had any conclusive proof.

Queen Zenobia Incident (2005)

In 2005, Valentine was ordered by BSAA Director Clive R. O'Brian to investigate strange carcasses washed up on the shore of a coastal town. Shortly after she was partnered with Parker Luciani and ordered to investigate the disappearance of Chris Redfield and Jessica Sherawat, whose last known coordinates were on a ship in the Mediterranean Sea. She boarded the Queen Zenobia and encountered a new B.O.W. "Ooze."

During the incident, Valentine learnt of the possible revival of the bioterrorist group Il Veltro and encountered FBC (Federal Bioterrorism Commission) agent Raymond Vester. She reunited with Redfield and discovered the existence of the t-Abyss virus, inoculating herself with a vaccine against it.

She uncovered the fact that FBC Commissioner Morgan Lansdale was responsible for arming Veltro to carry out the 2004 attack on Terragrigia. However, they were betrayed by Sherawat and left with no evidence, but intelligence activities conducted by Quint Ketchum and Keith Lumley uncovered the existence of the Queen Dido where Veltro leader Jack Norman had kept video evidence of Lansdale's involvement with the group. She defeated Norman and recovered the evidence, leading to the arrest of Lansdale.

Following Lansdale's arrest, the BSAA was reformed as a UN (United Nations) special operations unit with greater jurisdiction around the world. Valentine became an SOA (Special Operations Agent).

Spencer Estate Raid Operation (2006)

In 2006, the BSAA discovered the location of Oswell E. Spencer and sent Valentine and Redfield to arrest him. The pair hoping he would lead them to Albert Wesker. After making their way through the Spencer Estate, they entered the estate's study hall and found Spencer dead on the ground with Wesker in front of them. They fought Wesker but were easily defeated. Valentine saw Wesker preparing to kill Redfield and tackled him out of a window and over a cliff.

The BSAA initiated a full-scale search operation for Valentine and Wesker, but neither their bodies nor personal effects were found. On November 23, Valentine was officially declared dead and her name was added to the list of BSAA members who had died in the line of duty, and a grave without her body was erected.

While neither of them died from the fall, Valentine was severely injured and unconscious. Wesker took her intending to exact his own personal revenge by using her as the first test subject of the Uroboros Project, giving her the medical care she required. However, her t-virus exposure in the mansion and infection with a stronger variant from the Nemesis-T in Raccoon City weren't actually eradicated by the vaccine and lay dormant over the years. After being placed in stasis, the recombined virus reactivated and vanished completely due to the presence of powerful antibodies in her body. Wesker continued to extract these antibodies to weaken the lethality of the Uroboros virus.

Side effects of her experimentation included a pigmentation abnormality leading to her hair turning a light blonde, as well as skin whitening giving her an extremely pale complexion. When a sufficient amount of antibodies were extracted from Valentine, she was deemed of no use until the discovery of the drug "P30" derived from Progenitor virus research. The drug granted the subject superhuman strength and made them highly susceptible to control. However, the body metabolized the drug too quickly and as a solution, Valentine was implanted with a device on her chest that would continuously inject the drug. However, it was unknown whether continuous administration would damage to the subject's body, and she was used as a test subject to find out.

Over the years, Valentine became completely subservient to Wesker and his TRICELL associates Excella Gionne and Ricardo Irving.

Irving Arrest Operation (2009)

In March 2009, Valentine was ordered to protect Irving during the field test of the new Plaga model in the West African state of Kijuju. Under his orders, she injected a local villager with a sample of the Uroboros virus to eradicate the BSAA's SOU Alpha Team and saved him from being arrested by Redfield and Alomar. When Irving failed to kill them, she caught him attempting to flee with his wealth and gave him a dominant species Plaga embryo to inject himself with as a last attempt to kill them. She then travelled by speedboat to the cave system leading to the Uroboros Laboratory.

Valentine was forced to act as Wesker's partner in a confrontation with Redfield and Alomar. She displayed signs of defiance and was returned to her normal self after the removal of the P30 injection device on her chest. After convincing Redfield to continue and stop Wesker, she collapsed and was found by Josh Stone. The two fought their way through the TRICELL facility and met with a BSAA helicopter piloted by Doug. After Doug's death, they commandeered the helicopter and aided Redfield and Alomar in their battle against Wesker, saving them just in time and allowing them to finish off Wesker with two rocket launchers. With the incident resolved and their nemesis dead, the four returned home.

Valentine was left physically and mentally exhausted following her three year ordeal as a test subject, and her present status is unknown. She was immediately placed under observation in a laboratory upon her return and subjected to a range of tests. Afterwards, she was placed in a rehabiliation center and kept out of BSAA operations for several years.
