The 'Hunter γ' (Dev. code: "MA-124", nicknamed "Frogger") was an amphibian-based subspecies of the Hunter B.O.W. It was a unique experiment in reversing the method of creation of the Hunter by infusing a fertilized amphibian egg with human DNA. 1 2 3 4 5 6
History
Using the α and β models as a base, one of the European laboratories of the Umbrella Corporation developed this new subspecies. The γ model is developed combining human genes with a fertilized amphibian egg through a cultivation process and administering the t-virus. The result sees a more frog-like Hunter that tends to remain close to water, but still remains a dangerous creature. Specimens were captured by the staff of the Raccoon General Hospital and were used for experimentation purposes. It is unknown how the γ model, the product of a European laboratory, came to be found in Raccoon City. Other specimens were known to be held in containment in the lower levels of Raccoon University.
The γ model was deemed a failure and unsuitable as a marketable B.O.W. due to its weaknesses to sunlight and dry air and very limited intelligence, and Umbrella promptly dropped the project. However, between 1999 and 2003, the project was resumed and the creature entered mass-production as a low-cost B.O.W. Taking advantage of the high levels of water and moisture in the Amazon, many smaller variants of the γ model were purchased from Umbrella by Javier Hidalgo. 7
Attributes
The γ model suffers from a severely devolved eyesight, which is made up for by a keen hearing ability. It lacks the claws typically associated with a Hunter-class B.O.W. and has less attack power and intelligence than its American rival, the β type. Its amphibian traits are dominant over its human traits, evident by its appearance alone. It is almost completely unable to operate outside of a water-based environment, making it very premature for use as an all-purpose B.O.W. It is extremely weak to direct sunlight and dry air, but is highly effective within environments where water resources are plentiful. Naturally, its amphibian attributes make it a fast and efficient swimmer. Its digestive system is also highly developed, and they can easily swallow a human being whole, killing them near-instantly with their digestive systems.
The γ model is generally considered to be indirectly related to the only other amphibian-based B.O.W. to be developed; the Lurker, as the two share many similarities and even the same weaknesses.
