'Halbert' was a Wasp-based B.O.W. developed by the Umbrella Corporation which was disposed of in the Atlantic Waste Disposal Facility.
History
Following the outbreak of the t-virus at the Arklay Laboratory, natural wasps had been infected and demonstrated potential for insects of the same type to be used in future experiments. Research was then carried out on the yellow-jacket wasp and eventually, researchers created the Halbert B.O.W. However after examining the results, Halbert was deemed a failure and sent to the Waste Disposal Facility in the Atlantic Ocean for disposal.
Due to the poor supervision of the facility, the Halbert were able to survive and develop into a thriving hive and produced their own colony and even Queen.
Attributes
The effects of the t-virus, like most insects, saw the creature grow considerably compared to its natural state. Halbert retained their poisonous stingers as their main attack method. Generally however, the results of this wasp B.O.W. were no improvement on the wasp creatures recorded in Raccoon City.
Like all wasps the Halbert will defend their Queen at all costs and vigorously protect her with their own lives if necessary. Halbert are territorial and will confront any invaders of that territory.
Etymology
The Halbert B.O.W. is named after the 'halberd' (or Swiss voulge), a two-handed pole weapon prominently used in the 14th-15th centuries. Halbert is an alternative spelling of the weapon's name.
