The result of a gypsy moth used for experiments by Umbrella Corporation becoming infected with the t-virus through secondary transmission. 1 2
History
The Giant Moth that resided in the underground laboratory beneath Raccoon City was an Umbrella B.O.W. test product that escaped during the mayhem of the t-virus outbreak, subsequently becoming infected itself. Apart from the obvious size increase, the Giant Moth lost its ability to fly more than a few feet. The creature was also recorded on Sheena Island, as a result from accidental exposure to the virus. 3
Ultimately, the Giant Moth was another failed product with no practical use as a weapon. However, research was still carried out on moths, as evidenced by the Moth specimens present in the Umbrella Antarctic Base.
Attributes
As a side effect of the t-virus infection, its wings did not grow at the same rate as its body and began to degenerate. The Giant Moth's reproduction rate (the off-spring are referred to as "Baby Moth") also increased and consequently many of its offspring joined it within the facility. The Giant Moth has experienced an increase in the amount of phosphorous powder it releases and its toxicity, and possesses the ability to carry an adult human. 4 5
