Enrico Marini was Vice-Captain of S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Service) who held an additional post as Captain of Bravo Team. He was the oldest member and a veteran proud of being a cut above others in survival techniques. His strong mental strength was recognized by everyone in the unit and he was popular due to his abundant experience and gentle personality. Backed by his wealth of experience, his accomplished survival skills competed even among the strong men of S.T.A.R.S. His hobby was golf.
History
After being scouted for S.T.A.R.S., although his character and achievements would have normally made him Captain under normal circumstances, it was the intention of the Umbrella Corporation, the unit's main sponsor company, to hand the seat to Albert Wesker. Despite this, Marini's attributes still made him Vice-Captain of the unit and Captain of Bravo Team.
Mansion Incident (July 23-24, 1998)
On July 23, Marini led Bravo Team on their investigation into the bizarre murder cases around the Arklay Mountains. Along the way, their helicopter experienced engine trouble and made a forced crash landing. Marini ordered the team to secure the perimeter and investigate the surrounding area, where they discovered an over-turned MP (Military Police) transport vehicle and the corpses of two MPs. After finding a document detailing the prisoner-in-transit, Billy Coen, Marini ordered the team to spread out and search for him while he continued searching the vehicle. Later, he found a document detailing Coen's crime of murdering 23 people, and relayed this information to the rest of the team, namely Rebecca Chambers. Hours later, Marini contacted her again to inquire about the search for Coen, but although she had been with Coen for hours, she lied to Marini.
Marini continued his own investigation and reached an underground laboratory belonging to the Umbrella Corporation, and discovered the existence of a mansion the company used for research. He met Chambers and requested that she ignore Coen and follow him to rendezvous with the rest of the team at the mansion. However, she declined, and Marini set off on his own. During the course of his search of the mansion, he discovered information that revealed there was a traitor within S.T.A.R.S., their own Captain Wesker, and their deployment to the area was orchestrated by Umbrella.
Marini burned with a desire to save the rest of his team from being sacrificed for the goals of Umbrella and Wesker. He put his life and reputation on the line to reveal the truth to Alpha Team, but was injured by Wesker while making his way through the underground cave system in the mansion courtyard, but was found by Jill Valentine. Just as he was about to reveal the traitor's identity, he was shot and instantly killed by Wesker.
