Title

Brandon Bailey

Brandon Bailey was a student of Professor James Marcus and one of the initial researchers in the excavation team led by Ozwell E. Spencer, Marcus and Edward Ashford into the search that would eventually lead to the discovery of the Progenitor virus. While working closely with Marcus who he greatly admired, Bailey was one of the men responsible for the successful discovery of the virus and later became director and chief researcher at the top-secret Africa Laboratory.

History

Following the discovery of the Progenitor virus on December 4, 1966 after three months of searching, Dr. Marcus and Bailey immediately took samples of the Stairway to the Sun flower which contained the virus back to America in order to cultivate it there. In 1967, it was discovered that the initial culture samples of the virus taken from these flowers did not exhibit any DNA-altering characteristics. Cultivation of the flower for mass production also yielded another dilemma-- the flowers did not contain the virus at all. On March 23, Bailey got into a heated debate with Marcus over the direction of the research during which Ozwell E. Spencer interjected with the idea of starting a pharmaceutical company. 1

In April 1968, Bailey and Marcus opted to return to Africa, with research at a relative stand still without samples of the Progenitor virus. However in the middle of hastily preparing for their departure in August, Marcus was coerced by Spencer to become the first director of the Umbrella Research Center in Raccoon City due in part to Spencer's own deeper intentions. Deeming it logical to provide Marcus with a calm environment with a proper facility to conduct his research, Bailey then left alone for the site in Africa, arriving on September 15.

Within a short time of his arrival, Bailey was dissatisfied with the "research facilities" present. With the construction of the new Umbrella Africa Laboratory completed on June 15, 1969, Bailey was almost completely isolated to the location by Spencer, with his duties involving shipping the Progenitor virus throughout the world to many of Umbrella's research facilities, particularly to Marcus' research efforts in his personal laboratory within the training facility. 2 3

With news of his teacher's death in 1988, Bailey became bitter, distant and apathetic to almost everything happening around him. After the destruction of Raccoon City, the Africa Laboratory was closed on November 16, 1998. This too failed to stir emotion in the now completely disconnected Bailey. Bailey's status as of 2009 has been stated as "Deceased", the exact circumstances surrounding his death are unknown, but it is assumed that he was eliminated as part of Ozwell E. Spencer's plot to conceal the location of the Progenitor virus and the Africa Laboratory. 4
