Title

Africa Laboratory

The Africa Laboratory was the center of the Africa branch of the Umbrella Corporation, constructed in the immediate area surrounding the "Sun Garden", the cradle of the Progenitor flower which housed the Progenitor virus. The laboratory's director and chief researcher was Brandon Bailey

History

After chasing the Ndipaya tribe out of the Sun Garden and the surrounding ruins, the research team led by Brandon Bailey required the construction of research facilities to accomodate research into the Sun flower (later renamed Progenitor flower) and the Progenitor virus within it. Initially constructed without many facilities and consisting almost solely of tents, proper facilities were still being constructed under the order of Ozwell E. Spencer. These facilities were finally completed on June 15, 1969. Shortly afterwards, Bailey requested an expansion of the facility in order to fill the facility with more talented research staff.1

Due to the inability to cultivate the Progenitor flower outside of its natural habitat, the Africa Laboratory soon became the main source of Progenitor samples, which were distributed worldwide from the laboratory to the rest of Umbrella's growing network of facilities. Aside from this service, the Africa Laboratory also conducted research on the Progenitor virus, with the results relayed directly to Dr. James Marcus at the Umbrella Research Center in order to assist him in his own viral research. The facility maintained a link directly with Marcus for several years until his death. 2

The facility was discovered and under the order of Excella Gionne (after being advised by Albert Wesker), reopened by Tricell in 2009 during their search for the Progenitor virus, and more facilities were built beyond it to serve as the Uroboros Laboratory.
